Can you explain how you came up with the distances from the center to the small cutouts.

Hi, it is a matter of preference of how big you want the cut outs to be. Two things that I kept in mind while determining the sizes were, 1)Not to make the distance between the cut outs too small. 2)Not to make the cut outs to deep into the centre circle so that I could not fit a knob in the middle to hold the piece of wood in place. With a little more size you could add a hold down to help lock the knob in place while drilling to prevent any spinning of the knob! Very nice explanation of the setup!
