Osrs is the game for the Adults who have to do Adult tasks. You can AFK and feel like you are still progressing. You can tailor your play session to how busy you are. Know you need to step away from the PC every 5min becuase you are looking after your children? Lets do some bank standing skills. At home working so you are afk for very long periods of time? NMZ afk or do a herb run. Finally have time to do some pve? You can do a raid for 40min, or fight a boss that only takes 2min. You can tailor your Pve to how much time you can actually commit to your computer. It really is the perfect Adult game.

It depends because with the phone…You can’t afk as long as you can on the pc. Also if you’re afk with your phone in your pocket, at work because you don’t want to be seen on your phone, you can ghost swipe…So Afking on the phone is convenient as much as being on pc.

as a former WoW player, the lack of weekly reset was one of the most refreshing things. I don't HAVE to get on at specific times with 24 other people to kill every boss once a week. Feeling like if you take a break you're that much time behind everyone else was a nightmare. You can still spend the same amount of time playing osrs as you do in WoW but it is much more respectful of your time, in my humble opinion. Even knowing the insane grinds that exist.
@matthewaustin2472 ай бұрын
I agree, I had the same reaction. Even if the grinds are longer, your progress is never reset. You are always getting stronger. You can decide what you want to work on in almost any order you feel like. It's hard to explain to players who don't play osrs who just know about the long grinds and think its the opposite.

This is one of the most counter-intuitive but true things about OSRS. It respects your time. I can log on right now, play for 15 minutes, and have made progress on my account. It might be small and incremental, but it's progress. If I want to go and do a quest, that progresses my account. If I get sidetracked and fish for half an hour or start a slayer task, that also progresses my account. There's no pressure to level and clear content quickly. You progress at your pace and the content that is there today will still be there and be relevant tomorrow, or next week, next month, next year.

For me, it's the fact that OSRS is simultaneously the most simple MMO in the market and one of the deepest. The core gameplay of OSRS is so simple a toddler could probably grasp the basics, but the amount of content and love poured into the game in the last 20+ years, and the amount of player-made content in the form of guides, youtube videos, player lore, and analysis' of the game's mechanics - to the point where it's understood mathematically - have made the game one of the deepest MMO's in the market. One can hop on OSRS and have a simple stress free experience, but also be able to look forward to tons and tons of rich content. Can't really say that for any other MMO. They usually fall into being too complicated and convoluted or being shameless shallow rip-offs.

Here's an idea, I've had it for this game for so long. remember when you were grinding to get that graceful armor for light weight running gear? then they decided to give cosmetic changes to the outfit and a player choice color for each set of graceful. Instead of it being cosmetic only, my idea was since there is skilling outfits in the game like lumber jack outfit, prospector outfit, runecrafting, outfit, smithing outfit you name it. most for each skill. the idea was to turn each of those cosmetic colors into a skilling outfit. fusing graceful into say your prospectors outfit. or lumber outfit. allowing you to wear the graceful but gives you the xp bonuses for woodcutting trees or smithing your bars faster with the smithing outfit. btw the designs of the skilling outfits. they are top notch in design for the most part. now they added a way to turn run always on even if you hit 0 you still get 1 run back and you automatically run every time it regenerates. Anyways the original design was piscalarious, shizan, arceaus, lovakaijn, and hosidius. yes i butchered the names. but each color could act as the skilling outfit. say farming or woodcutting. that is if you have unlocked the full outfit you get the full boost. its just a thought. and say red, now we all know having graceful for combat in some sense would actually be stupid. your supposed to wear heavy armor and at times your best in slot gear. but what if you could apply a graceful boost to say your shaizen armor when your fighting lizardman. instead of sipping brown potion all the time. and spending what 40mill on a ring of endurance that practically never really works. its best used for blast furnace but that's practically it and your still sipping brown potion. brown potion bad. and its hard to get. i just don't think graceful sets should just be cosmetic only. i think each house color should be for a skilling outfit set. i even had a list for each color set. I'm practically a veteran player and i think noobs would like this idea just as much as players who have played the game for over 13 years.

Played RuneScape when I was in second grade while it was on miniclip. I continued playing until maybe 2011 or so. Picked it back up in 2020 and I haven’t stopped playing. I’m 2276 total level. The last 5 runecrafting levels have taken me like 4 months because I’m just so burnt out at this point. BUT! It’s still easily the best game I’ve played to this day. Destiny 1 and elden ring are in my top 3 but I continue to put RuneScape as my number 1 if someone were to ask. It’s simply just the best. A lot of the times I’ll have it up on the side while I’m playing something else because it’s just so easy to chill and not worry about impressing someone on it. You definitely could chase things in it to impress your friends, but I find it’s the only game where I truly feel satisfied with my time spent in it. It’s just perfect. Jagex is the best developer out there by far. Fromsoft and rockstar games are a close second

Back in 2009 is when I first truly remember the discussion amongst the playerbase at the time, forecasting when/how Runescape would die. Popularity definitely slowed down from that point, up until 2012 when EoC was Jagex's attempt to breathe new life into the game - which, as we all know, did exactly that. Just in a roundabout sort of way. Nowadays, this game is so fucking big yet still so fucking niche, that it will probably be around in some form, basically forever (hypebole, yeah, but you know what I mean). I think one thing that a lot of people overlook with the OSRS relaunch is that it was not a static "nostalgia" server. It was a "reload save and try a different path" server. Song of the Elves, Zulrah, Tombs of Amascut. These are content I never saw in RS2 because they never existed in RS2. There are players alive nowadays that remember getting their first tanzanite helm as their "nostalgia" instead of smithing their first ady bar like OG skillers like myself. THAT, in my opinion, is the difference between OSRS and other "nostalgia bait" games. Jagex simply reset the clock for themselves and tried something else.

i see RuneScape 3 as a gigantic tragedy, they were forced to limit trading because they'd be denied payment from banks if RWTing kept happening, they limited PKing for the same reason, and the only way they could've gotten out of it was a game changing update, which flopped cause they were too desperate to hear out the community, of course, they also tried scummy tactics like MTX, its still weird to think of that timeline where RS3 wasn't forced to do any of these things, they'd most likely still turn into an MTX haven due to how the MMORPG market has changed, but if the devs of OSRS were still working on it, I doubt that would've happened.

This comment is for anyone that is new or is put off by the fact that endgame content in OSRS is thousands of hours of grinding to access. First, the content creation community of OSRS hosts a plethora of series' where the content creator chases endgame content with various restrictions or in certain ways. You don't have to grind for thousands of hours and max your account to go run boss fights or raids. I am a 20 year veteran player of this game and have played exclusively on free servers. I have paid for "membership" bonds with in game currency only to obtain skill capes for the two skills I have maxed. I'm going super grindy as I'm aiming for a f2p completionist account, but the free game has a ton to offer and really gives new players the opportunity to find what they like, or just see if the game itself is fun, without any investment needed other than your time. That is one of the biggest draws to this game. And even if you're a higher level player, you can cut your membership and still enjoy f2p content.

8:58 using Dark Souls is pretty ironic here, as someone who bought it at launch it actually did not sell well at launch and was one of those games that started selling more as word of mouth spread. It came out a month before Skyrim which I think hurt its exposure. But Remastered and the sequels sold much more. It was also incredibly broken at launch and the online was barely functional and weapon scaling with your stats was bugged so unscaling weapons were by far the best, later they patched the game to fix scaling and also have enemies drop more souls which in turn made it much easier (in a good way). Not super relevant just like to ramble about the early years of Dark Souls 1.

Really appreciate your perspectives here Tasty, couldn't have said any of it better myself. I'm not a fan of the removing polling rhetoric, even if 95% of topics easily pass these days. It's a hallmark of the unique brand of communication our community has with our dev team, outstanding as they are, and should not be done away with lightly. It provides opportunity for discussion to be had amongst players of all skill levels, without which, the game would die as you said.

I bought Morrowind about 19 years ago cuz it reminded me of Asheron's Call. Such great memories playing those gems.
