It's scary how it accentuates every single asymmetry on your face; e.g. if you're used to seeing the tip of your nose pointing 2° to the left, now you'll see it pointing 2° to the right, which is still the same degree of asymmetry, but it looks much worse because it's a 4° difference from what you're used to seeing.

I've heard that it depends on the direction of writing and reading in your language. If the text is written from left to right, you'll focus on the left side of the face (from your point of view) and the other way around

This is neurologically fixed, we evolved an almost identical system, which means it isn’t trained, and it’s old, at least 50 thousand years. This is so far into our evolutionary history that it predates literacy (about 99.8% of everyone who lived in the last 5,000 years was still illiterate). A famous profiler once said that the left side shows the more accurate intentions than the right. I think it was because the left brain tries to construct the image you want to portray and controls the right side of the face, but the right brain isn't cooperating as well and shows how we truly feel on our left face. (The left brain controls the right side of body, right brain controls left side of body ) When someones left face is annoyed slightly more, as they smile to greet you, then apparently, they are actually annoyed to greet you ( or perhaps simply stressed in general/nothing personal ). Lol. Check out people's photos and cover the right face to see if there is a different truer expression sneaking through on the left side. So maybe we like looking at peoples right face more, because we want to believe they actually like and accept us. 😢 of course, this pertains to microexpressions seeping through, and not natural structural imbalance annomolies during expression.

There is a theory, that the left eye and left side of the face reflects the soul and the right reflects the ego (different aspects of the same source).
