The second part of the video “the problem with online therapy” misses some key context relating to mental health care in America. It’s rediculously difficult (in many areas impossible) to find an in-person therapist much less one covered by insurance. When I finally was assigned a provider through my insurance my _only_ option was online. Further, The point that betterhelp doesn’t have psychiatry is kind of irrelevant Better help is an online _therapy_ platform, not a telehealth medical service. If you try to work through issues with a psychiatrist they will tell you to talk to your therapist. Psychiatrists prescribe medicine they are completely different from therapists. They aren’t a therapist who can prescribe they are something all together different that you would want alongside a certified therapist. Third, the point on insurance-not taking insurance likely isn’t better help’s fault. This is something that even independent providers also refuse. When I was looking for a therapist there were countless who told me that they just don’t take insurance. It’s because insurance companies routinely deny claims, nickel and dime providers and clients, and are generally hard to deal with. Think about it better help would love to take insurance, they would make so much money. But the cost and complexity of the insurance companies BS isn’t worth it for them. I’m not here to defend betterhelp, they seem like a company that has extremely unethical data practices and other issues as well. But there is definitely an unaddressed need for mental health care that might only be able to be addressed in a virtual environment.

Getting in to see a psychiatrist rather than a psychologist, or LMHC type counselor, is extremely difficult. There is a shortage of psychiatrists and they often don't provide actual talk therapy, they only prescribe and adjust medication for the average person with depression or similar level mental health issues. They often don't have the time to spend with patients that are not in a hospital or severe state of crisis.
@danameyy Жыл бұрын
It’s also worth noting that Psychiatrists are not therapists who you can just vent to about whatever you want, they are there to provide medical options for treatment of disorders. Good points but I think you could have used different terminology in your psychologist vs psychiatrist segment. Most therapists that you talk to say they’re therapists, not psychologists. The term “Psychologist” in USA usually indicates they hold a doctor of psychology, (PsyD) which is a clinical degree. While they can’t prescribe meds like psychiatrists, they are often even more qualified than psychiatrists to diagnose clinical mental health conditions and work closely with psychiatrists. Additionally, plenty of insurance companies do offer online therapy and psychiatrist access - just not through BetterHelp.
@olandir Жыл бұрын
This is what I was coming to the comments to say. Also, most people need a therapist, not a psychiatrist or at least should see a therapist/psychologist first. They need a person to talk to and help them sort out the stress of their lives or figure out their depression. They can help you determine if your next step really is to go to a psychiatrist (who can prescribe meds) because not every issue needs meds. I see my therapist every other week and can sit and talk to him for an hour. I only see my psychiatrist once a quarter and it's a quick 30 minute session to determine if I'm doing fine with the prescribed meds and if they need to continue / change. The two serve wildly different purposes but both are needed.

I completely agree with that comment. The psychologist vs. psychiatrists argument in the video felt very poorly researched and totally out of place. First, not every person who goes to therapy needs to see a psychiatrist, and second, a therapist is trained to notice signs which point that patient could benefit from medication. In that case, they can recommend the patient to make an appointment with a psychiatrist. Both professions have different scopes, and although in some cases therapy and medication are combined, I don’t see how that could be construed as criticism of Better Health.

It's your face in the video, it's your voice in the sponsored ad read, doing your own research into this kind of thing is part and parcel of being a good youtuber these days. @@jessy1982 Where do you personally draw the line? After all, advertising is always about encouraging people to buy things, and especially to buy things that a person is not currently buying. What about a radio show/TV program/sporting event "brought to you by Company?" Do you find product placement in movies to be morally ambiguous? People form strong emotional connections with fictional characters. And a movie like Back to the Future doesn't disclose at the start that various companies paid for product placement. KZbin has some of the strictest rules requiring videos to disclose at the start that the video is sponsored, and to make it clear what the advertisement is for. Do people with KZbin channels have the ability to successfully market products and services? Yes, of course. I don't personally view it as more objectional than any other advertisement. The main thing is that a company should not be allowed to lie about its product, and that rule should apply to any form of advertising, not merely online advertising. Personally, I have no issue with a KZbinr including an Express VPN ad in their video, but I hate constantly being bombarded with advertisements for sports betting on the radio and during ad breaks on Hulu. Because it seems Express VPN is actually a functional VPN that does what it advertises, while sports betting is a morally bankrupt industry that preys on those with low incomes. If someone I watched on KZbin suddenly started taking sponsorships for sports betting, I would also be quite frustrated; as in, I would probably try to contact the KZbinr and ask their channel to stop shilling for the bookies, levels of frustration. Well, it depends on your insurance. One mistake a lot of Europeans make is to view the US as one country, when in reality it's a union of 50 states, each with its own economy, own politics, own health system, own system of justice, etc. It would be like viewing all of Europe as ONE country with ONE system, etc. - which of course makes absolutely no sense. So there are hundreds of health insurance companies in the US, each with their own rules and rates, etc. Some health insurance might cover therapy sessions, some might not. Some might only cover 50% of the costs, some might cover 80% of the costs, just like the different health insurance systems in Europe. For example, you say in Sweden you pay $10 per session. Here in Austria, you pay nothing if you go through the national health insurance. HOWEVER, if you decide to see a private therapist, then you pay the same as in the US, if not more. My point is, you can't make a blanket comparison because we're dealing with different countries with different systems in the case of Europe, and different states with different systems in the case of the US. As a college student in the US, I never had to pay for dental care or therapy sessions because all of that 100% covered by my parents' health insurance, under which I was covered until the age of 26. So you paid $10 per session in Sweden, I paid $0 in the US. See why blanket comparisons are a bad idea?

In Australia (and many other countries) psychologist is a protected and regulated title that can only be used by qualified professionals with experience and training in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions. Advising your viewers that a psychologist is just "someone to talk to" is doing a disservice to your viewers and is an inaccurate representation of psychology. Regarding better help, other major problems with the platform include expectations it places on mental health workers to be always available to respond to clients - setting up potentially unhealthy dependence on therapist contact, and controversies regarding appropriate and adequate compensation for therapists.

So many bad reports about this organization, particularly from licensed therapists. Allegedly, they do unethical marketing like put up dummy pages claiming to represent a named licensed therapist, even take out advertisements in the name of that therapist, but all the links go back to BetterHelp. They supposedly hire people internationally, so your certified therapist might very well be working in a scam call center in Nigeria. I also wonder what "certified therapist" even means, because unless they qualify which agency is certifying their supposed therapists, "certified therapist" could mean just about anything. In the US, for example, any member of the clergy is allowed to practice certain therapy and counseling functions, so presumably anyone with a mail order theology degree is a certified therapist. That's perfectly legal in the US.

The part comparing psychiatrists to psychologists is really inaccurate. Psychologists are typically better, honestly. Psychiatrists will only talk to patients on average 15 minutes and then just recommend some medication that they have diagnosed as best. Psychologists will talk for an hour and only refer a patient to a psychiatrist if they truly believe medication is needed. Otherwise they will help them through their problems without it and actually develop close connections with them. Psychiatrists end up making more money because they just speed run as many patients as possible while psychologists go far more in depth with their cognitive behavior therapy and put a ton of time into each individual person they see.

A majority of therapists on platforms such as these, and commonly the ones you find independently practicing as well are actually LPCs (Licensed Professional Counselor) which is not the same as a psychologist The training of an LPC is primarily geared toward providing counseling (interchangeable term with therapy) whereas psychologists can provide counseling, their training usually leads them to research, teaching, or psychological testing (such as for ADH, autism, or learning disabilities). The fields are related and draw from each other but not the same Psychologists are usually more expensive but if your child sees one for support with Autism, it might make sense for that to be who your child also receives counseling from instead of finding another counselor

As a clinical therapist (or counselor, if you like) who was one of the providers on BetterHelp for awhile, I want to support some points here as well as clear up some things the video misrepresented and that need clearing up. I'm sorry for the length, but this shit needs saying. TLDR; if you are considering therapy please don't let this video discourage you from seeking services. I know it's hard to find a good one, but I can almost guarantee you it's worth it in the long run. If you're already against therapy in general and using this video as a reason not to consider it, this likely won't change your mind, but you might learn something anyway. The most important idea I want to clear up is the idea that online therapy doesn't work. This is simply not true, and misinterprets data. The data seems to show that, overall, most people will do better with in-person therapy. It does NOT say that there is no benefit at all to online therapy, or that everyone will do better with in-person therapy. When the pandemic started, I literally would not have been able to work with my clients at all (most of whom were dealing with substance use disorders and mood issues like Bipolar Disorder or Anxiety Disorder) if we coulnd't use online video therapy. Now a good chunk of them would rather have been in-person. However, my coworkers and I also found that once we started doing online sessions, our clients showed up more often and canceled less. Because they didn't need to find a babysitter, find a ride across town, or call off of work to see us. Some of them lived in rural areas several towns away, or hundreds of miles away with no good options for therapy, but could see us using this technology. They could more easily fit it into their busy life schedule. It made therapy more accessible for people that wouldn't have been able to get to it otherwise. Also, many of the teenagers I worked with as well as adults with high anxiety actually PREFERRED online therapy, because the it made the process of engaging with another person less awkward and in-their-face. Some of them eventually built enough comfort and trust with me to begin coming in-person once we could start doing in-person sessions again, but some of them stuck with online and have enjoyed it. I currently have about 60 clients in my practice, and about 80% of them prefer to stick with virtual, even though I have an office location they can come to in-person. Some of them take a hybrid approach, where if they can get to the office they'll do that but if they're held up by work or a home issue, they can quickly switch to a virtual session instead. The real factor of therapy being effective is whether or not the person seeking therapy feels understood and comfortable around the therapist, if they think this person "gets" them and their problems and can actually help to some degree. If they don't think so, it doesn't matter if it's in-person or online, it's not going to work that well. Which brings me to the fact that video calls out "online therapy platforms", which seems to imply ANY form of mental healthcare that is provided online. Plenty of legit hospitals, psychiatrist offices, non-for-profit organizations, community clinics, and therapy practices offer online therapy. It became a MUST during the pandemic, as otherwise there was literally no way to meet with people and provide care. However, most of them will use either their own proprietary software or contract with a company that provides telehealth software to these companies. For instance, I see clients through a small practice with about 7-8 other therapists, and the owner of the practice uses a software called Simple Practice, which offers both telehealth options (browser or app), as well as sets up client portals for documents, billing, and charting. The profit margin for these software builders is not in getting more and more clients in therapy, but in providing an effective, user-friendly way to conduct therapy for therapists, which is then used by clients. The target for profit is the providers, not the clients in need of care. If you use one of these programs to see a therapist through an established mental health business or healthcare company, you are way more likely using software made by a company that will NOT share your data with Meta or TikTok. BetterHelp does a TERRIBLE job of informing first-time clients what therapy actually is and isn't, what to expect not just from the first session but the process in general, realistic expectations to have, etc, but there's a few ways in which this video doesn't help. For instance, let's talk about the differences between a therapist and a psychiatrist. A therapist can have a doctorate or masters degree, and have many titles, but if they're licensed in the state they practice, can definitely provide a client with diagnoses as well as recommend/provide treatment they're trained in. They can and do also refer people to other providers like general doctors, physical therapists, and psychiatrists. A psychiatrist is going to prescribe medicine, but rarely (these days) provide any form of talk therapy. In fact, depending on the mental health issue a person is dealing with, it's often the case they will do well by taking medication AND getting therapy at the same time, not just one or the other. In that case, it's very helpful and recommended for a person's therapist, psychiatrist, doctor, etc, to talk to each other in order to make sure everyone's on the same page. BetterHelp doesn't really tell you ANY of this, at least not at the start when it'd be helpful, but the video should have done its due diligence and cleared this up. The points about the lawsuits and the sharing of information technically being LEGAL but not being ETHICAL are right on. This is somewhat part of the problem of these platforms, that they are not healthcare companies or organizations trying to expand access to services, but tech companies trying to make money off of healthcare. Their ethics stop at the point where their legalese TOS keeps them from getting sued and maybe extends to where there is public outcry over their practices, but only afterwards and not before. The more macro part is that actual good healthcare, both mental/emotional as well as physical, is not a huge generator of profit. If you have an illness and go to a doctor/hospital, recover, and stay healthy (except for maybe annual checkups), you are not a good repeat customer. If I'm providing you with good therapy, the whole point is for you to learn new skills or ways of dealing with your problems well enough that you don't need me anymore. It's not a business model that generates a gazillion dollars a year with unlimited growth, at least not if you're doing it ethically. Now, long-term, if everyone has access to good healthcare, the earning potential of our population long-term is amazing, and so many of our economic/social issues could be fixed. But that earning potential/long-term profit is going to be spread among all of us as a whole, not going to one company or even a few big corporations. Which is why some form of universal healthcare is opposed by so many on the left, right, and middle of the political spectrum. There's no good money in it. Finally, anytime I see a video on BetterHelp I see comments from people saying they had a terrible experience with it due to bad therapists. When I was on the platform, a good chunk of the clients I would see would tell me I was the 3rd or 4th therapist they'd seen, and they were quitting the service if I didn't measure up (no pressure). The problem is that compared to insurance, group practice rates, or salaried positions, most therapists make extremely low money per session with BetterHelp. There's a tiered payment program where for every 5 hours' worth of sessions you do in a week, the payment for each new session goes up, but that only incentivizes taking on way too many clients to work with effectively in order to make mid-to-good money. The therapist doing $70 hours' worth of work per week (where the tier program tops out) is going to be burned out quick, and not a good therapist for very long, and STILL isn't going to be paid as well as they would in other places. So what does this mean? The therapists working on the BetterHelp platform are likely either new/just starting out (like I was), bad therapists that have maybe burned bridges/can't work anywhere else, or burned out and not willing to change their situation. Sometimes you get good therapists who know the situation and use it as supplemental income with just a few clients a week. But I know that as soon as I found this stuff out about the platform, I worked hard to move all of my clients over to my group practice (where their insurance was accepted and there was a sliding scale based on income) and quit the platform. If you've read this far, thank you for your time. Please comment/email me with any questions. Again, please don't let this video put you off of therapy.

Therapy is not the issue, and I go with you when asking people not to use this video to discourage them from seeking therapeutic assistance. However, as a trained but unlicensed psychologist (yeah I stopped paying for my license), I am not too certain about those online therapy services, it's already difficult enough to find a good one in the real world, and I sense that in the virtual world, all those who couldn't make it in the real world or starting their career register themselves with companies like Better Help to give a service that raise red flags in terms of quality and professionalism without mentioning confidentiality. This could be severely damageable for those seeking real, and personalized assistance. Psychiatrist - Can write prescriptions. Is an MD. Spent less time studying psychology. Psychologist - Understands psychological techniques using cognitive and behavioural therapies to achieve a personalized psychological goal. Typically holds a PhD in clinical psychology. Spent more time studying psychology. If you are having an online therapy session, you want a psychologist. If you want someone to write a prescription, any MD can help you with additional information provided from your psychologist. A psychologist can make a diagnosis. Better Help uses therapists. Depending on your location, this could be someone who woke up this morning and decided they are a therapist or it could be someone who holds a bachelor's degree or master's degree in psychology/social work. Therapists are good for people who need to talk to work through problems. I was a behavioural therapist until the government decided my certification in behavioural psychology wasn't good enough and social workers with basically no training in my field know better than I. In the case of behavioural therapists, instead of working through thoughts they work through actions and focus on the topic of the learning of behaviours. So far as I am aware, Better Help does not employ behavioural therapists.

How they would manage to advertise services that would require HIPPA compliant systems without the users having HIPPA compliant systems seems like a case of criminal enticement.
@Medic8808 Жыл бұрын
Simple rule of thumb: if a service is being marketed as a healthcare provider, then that provider is REQUIRED BY LAW to follow ALL HIPPA STANDARDS AT ALL TIMES. If the provider fails to follow HIPPA standards, then the provider is guilty of medical malpractice by willful patient endangerment, as as such is not a legal healthcare service. ESPECIALLY if any payment is being provided by state assistance

I've been to many different therapists. I never had a session on BetterHelp, but I did have a few sessions with an online therapist I was recommended. It was the worst, most-humiliating experience I've ever had in therapy. Frustrating, she didn't listen to me, kept talking over me, kept trying to ask me about unrelated family relationships when I was there for trauma coping. I always feel like being online with my therapist is cheap and not helpful. Wasted too much money before I decided to go to a life coach instead. Worked out much better for me.

Still baffles me how ad data is "valuable" and bought and sold as such. Like, in theory I understand (if you knew what people would be more willing to buy you could sell them an ad), but for some reason I get a ton of ads for dating sites despite the fact that I'm married and all the ad data that is supposedly collected on me says so. Then the ad data where I say "this is what I am interested in" and practically begging to get served ads it, I never do. Someone is seriously getting ripped off when buying my data.

I always use the common sense with stuff like this. Their business plan is to help their patients. As long as they are helping, they make money off of you. Once you're cured you don't need them anymore so they won't make more money. It's not in their best interest to actually help you.

I think the funniest thing about Betterhelp is that just a few years ago KZbinrs were shilling this dangerous platform, there's a huge expose and everyone stops and apologizes. Now recently all these same KZbinrs start promoting the platform and big surprise: they are still a scummy platform. I get that trying to be a professional KZbinr is hard, but man is that some bad optics.

HIPAA violation. I work in a mental health employer and we got grilled on HIPPA when I was hired and BetterHelp is clearly violating HIPPA. A major no no. Both ethically and legally.

'Selling out' - Ad break immediately happens. You sly dog, I'm onto you. Also, fun fact, Mumkey Jones presented with all the traits of Elliot Rodger to see if a betterhelp 'therapist' would pick up on the extremely obvious warning signs of a potential threat, and surprise surprise, they didn't.

As someone qualified I wouldn't touch them with barge pole or recommend them. The adverts almost always have some condensing borderline emotional voice giving them "Advice" in how they're supposed to feel and behave. That's not how modern counseling is supposed to work. It's about them finding whats right for them as a unique human not me dictating my ideology and forcing it onto them.

I just want to point out one small fact, psychologists can actually diagnose they just can’t prescribe meds. Imo if you need actual therapy psychologist is a better opinion, they tend to spend more time speaking with you and helping you work through your issues. Psychiatrists are good for the treating the issue with medication, though a lot of PCP’s will prescribe the same medication. Both of my kids went through thorough testing with a psychologist for their diagnosis. Now with that being said better help seems like a crappy place to go to for therapy. I attempted to go through them once until I seen they didn’t take insurance. Every since then I constantly get emails from them. No reputable place is gonna pretty much beg you to use their services. After watching this video I am very glad I never used them, what their doing is so unethical.

Thank you for sharing and bringing the reality of commoditised healthcare to light. Be aware that your reference to required skills and professional qualifications for providing mental health services and support may not be correct in all countries. It is certainly important to be sure that any mental health professionals you choose have the skills and experience you need 🙏😊
@NatalieMarie917 Жыл бұрын
You don’t need to see a psychiatrist for diagnosis. You’re actually probably better off seeing a psychologist, licensed mental health counselor, clinical social worker, etc. who often conduct longer, more thorough interviews and/or psychological testing before providing diagnoses. Psychiatrists tend to have a lot more time constraints (due partly to a shortage in psychiatrists relative to the people who need their services-or at least _think_ they need their services). I definitely wish there was less confusion around the options actually available for mental health treatment.

They're the Kamikoto Knives(or however it was spelled) of therapy; cheap but presented as a luxury, especially towards desperate people. A lot of creators I like have advertised for this and while it doesn't make me blacklist them (that's pointless to me) it makes me consider and think about WHY they'd take the offer. A lot of these creators often talk about the struggles they go through and many comments from their viewers give hints that they're people who need help. BH seems like an outreach that could help people who can't or often don't know who to contact and find a therapist but the shady practices have been known for a while. Despite that, I still think what protects them is that just the overwhelming need of help for a LOOK of people now and as a result, people will think that BH is their own option even if they're told of the issues. It's sad and scummy but I feel BH will only be called out once more people call them out or, sadly, something bigger happens to them that launches them into mainstream attention, FORCING them to come clean which then will finally have to face something.

Good job bringing the topic up! While it might seem frightening, that your data could be used for profit you must understand this: 1. Most of the data is quantitative and used for building audiences based on specific interests. This allows them to target similar people who might need help. 2. It’s a business, which of course will seek out new customers to be sustainable. In conclusion, if they won’t use data they won’t be able to find people who need help as efficiently. The CPA (cost per aquisition) will rise pushing the company to bankrupcy. What will happen to people who beed help if they go bankrupt?

My only thing on your critique, which I am a fan of, and maybe it's just been my luck, but every psychiatrist I've seen had been a dismissive, pill pusher who didn't care about my issues or concerns. Everything they did made my life worse. The therapists, and psychologist I've seen did a million times more to help me than any psychiatrist could ever hope.

I think many people aren't clear about what psychiatrists are including the person who wrote the script for this video. Psychiatrists are doctors who specialize in mental health issues. They are specialists like cardiologists, dermatologists, or neurologists. They're MDs. They only manage medications. Some choose to provide therapy, but that is not their primary function. You have to go to a therapist for therapy. Therapy in the US can be provided by a psychologist, a social worker, a mental health counselor, a marriage and family therapist, and other licensed professionals that I can't remember right now.

I do love this channel, but you dropped the ball massively in your explanation of the differences between Psychiatrists and Psychologists. You’re right, psychiatrists are the only ones that can prescribe medication, but alluding that this is the “right” and only medical path just falls into the medicalisation that’s prevalent in American healthcare. No, not all mental health support is require medication, in fact the vast majority don’t. Ofcourse in the most severe and medically diagnosed conditions, psychiatrists and medication is the only viable support. Even worse, you seems to misconstrue “psychologists” with “counsellors”. The idea that “Psychologists” aren’t medical professionals is totally false; to become a psychologist you need to receive a PhD in psychology. The idea that someone with a PhD in mental Health is some random basic-educated person is utterly false, they are academic professionals, they just don’t prescribe medication (once again, vast majority of mental health doesn’t require it). In fact, even Counsellors must be at least Masters level. Even the section claiming in-person is better than online is totally dubious. The answer is inconclusive as there are many other factors at play (a significantly more experienced and better psychologists with the right tools online is better than a lesser experience counsellor in person). Once again, big fan of your channel, but these misinformation makes me wonder if you’ve done something similar to this in other topics that I don’t know much about, which is a shame.

To be sure, psychologists can absolutely diagnose and are often far better equipped to treat psychological issues that either don't need drug intervention, or as supplemental to drug interventions. Autism spectrum disorder, for instance, is often well-managed without the use of drugs. Typically, a psychiatrist would not be the person you'd want to see for this. 🤷♀️

Most of these companies that advertise heavily on KZbin are definitely shady. The only ones that I can attest that are worth their salt are Grammarly, Lucidchart, and even though I haven't used them yet but have used other similar brands, Hello Fresh. Most other companies that advertise as heavily as Betterhelp are scammy.

Psychologists are not medical doctors, but they are doctors. They can diagnose and treat mental health conditions (but not prescribe medication for them). In the state of California (and I am sure many others), of you have a court ordered psychological examination, the court wants a diagnosis and the person you see is a psychologist, not a psychiatrist.

Really great video right up until you incorrectly discredited and insulted an entire profesion. Pyscholigists are a protected term in the US and require as much and as extensive education as MDs. A basic google search would have told you what PsyDs require.

Same with claiming online therapy is less effective. Really makes you wonder how much research goes into these videos...
@Lilliaace Жыл бұрын
I was with you with everything EXCEPT the psychiatrist vs psychologist. MOST psychiatrists, at least in the USA, are only there TO provide mental health medicines. Appointments consist of a basic medical history, list of symptoms, why you feel you would benefit from the meds, and then the trial and error process of finding what brand and dose of meds work. They ARE NOT interested in counseling. The most "counseling" you get is "any bad side effects?". That's why we have psychologists, so they can do the actual counseling to help learn new behavior patterns and thought processes.
@godsofwarmaycry Жыл бұрын
"Online therapy is less effective". Source? There is none, because you made it up. A quick google search would have been enough to not make this mistake. Also, psychiatrists are not strictly better than psychologists. If you need help with your self-esteem, a qualified psychologist (or therapist really) would be much more helpful. Not to mention that psychiatrists can be quick to prescribe very strong medications with significant side effects. Overall, good points around data privacy, but terrible takes on everything else. Please do better. If I notice so many issues when I'm fairly knowledgeable on a topic, it makes me doubt you when you make videos on a topic I don't know much about. Sharing your sources would be a good start. Or at least having them for when you make a truth claim. Please - you have a responsibility towards your audience. Do not spread wrong information.

Why anyone would be stupid enough to take therapy online is beyond me. You're not building a trusting relationship with a therapist in this situation, you're handing over your deepest thoughts to a corporation. What did people think was going to happen? A corporation doesn't really care about customer's wellbeing? They just want to make as much money as possible? Say it ain't so!

I worked with patients online who were physically incapable of getting out of their home on their own. Many with painful or debilitating physical limitations that made them unable to move or elderly persons who could no longer drive and their family was unable to provide consistent transportation. For those clients, they would have been unable to receive psychotherapy services otherwise....I didn't work with BetterHelp, and never would. But all online psychotherapy services are not the same.

Another thing about going locally is you can usually still see your therapist virtually if you're not able to do an office visit. I saw mine in-person through 2019, then we just kept with virtual visits because it's a lot easier on my schedule to be able to just have that call.
