If you havent been in the loop it, it doesnt matter the 'amount of people' the point he is making is 'this is a pitch point' that cannot be avoided in commutes. Other cities have many ways to get in to the city. We have 1 due to construction now for about 2 years. We have only 1 main bridge that can allow you in to the city. The other is under construction. Not only that but because of its design new comers will likely cause slowdowns trying to get in to lanes they require and have less then a mile to do so in bumper to bumper traffic in all lanes.
@theonlyconformistАй бұрын
We have a lot of highway miles per capita. It does get pretty bad, especially when there's construction, on 435 East and West in the Southern loop, but otherwise it's not bad at all compared to cities of similar size or larger.

They are compared to cities of like size. Their authorized strength is about 1,500 sworn to serve a resident population of 510,000 across 320 square miles - which is really small. As for the budget, they have dramatically increased the salaries of KCPD staff of every rank to encourage recruitment and retention. Also, when they mention that they are short-staffed, they mostly mean the Patrol Division - not enough bodies to staff the any of the watches across all six districts. This is especially true in North Patrol and Shoal Creek. They’re spread too thin.

I'm looking to potentially leave Kansas City. Friends and family matter more to me than a place at this point, but my feelings towards KC as a place have become somewhat negative over the last two years. Could be that I just outgrew it years ago, and never left because I'm from here and starting over sounds scary and remote work made it easier to delay moving. I don't think it's chopped liver, but it went from being a B+ city to a C+ or B- city after the pandemic. This downgrade I'm giving it is because of the surge in property crime (my car was stolen last year, at lot of my favorite local businesses are getting broken into, I'm always worried about my car overnight now) and the increase in rent prices. Rent is still below the national average but the gap has narrowed a lot. I started looking in Chicago and Philadelphia and was surprised to find it's not really that much more expensive to rent in either of those cities. Working remotely has been nice, but I would have more opportunities working hybrid work in my industry if I lived in Chicago or Philadelphia. I also wouldn't need a car, which would narrow the cost of living gap between here and those cities somewhat, even if both of those cities are more expensive than here. The state of Missouri is also pretty awful. There is plenty of natural beauty in this state, but the state government is so awful and embarrassing. Not a huge deal because I only fly a few times a year, but the airport is nice but still small. It's only 40 gates. I'd prefer to live somewhere that had a bigger airport hub. Traveling internationally from KC is seriously annoying. It takes, no joke, twice as long as it would if you lived somewhere like Chicago. Buying a house is still much, much cheaper here than most cities, though. I know it's hard and out of reach for most first-time buyers, but compare that to almost any city with a population over 400k and you will struggle to find anything for less than $300k.
@DigitallFlesh21 күн бұрын
I sold my house last year due to high taxes and the rising homicide rates. Plus it has the worst dating market for singles. I did move to the country, but really enjoy it and it's a lot cheaper and peaceful.

I'm gonna say that the problem is with Kansas City, Missouri proper. Not with the suburbs around it. Many of the cities surrounding it are great to live in. The taxes and the corrupt city government are a huge problem. I grew up in Grandview (just south of KC) and now live in Overland Park (just west of KC). I'm well aware of everything in the area. The mayor of KC is extremely corrupt and arrogant. Just to work in KC proper I have to pay 1% income tax. Roads are always a mess.

Exactly. Let's not forget about the bus system. It has become very unreliable and unsafe. For some reason the mayor is trying to make this city the first and only city to run a bus system without fare, but yet the bus system is occurring a det that is not being covered. so that's why the services are being cut, the bus system is not reliable anymore they be dirty and it's just a mobile homeless shelter now

Haven't watched the video yet, but I'd be looking to move away if it weren't for already being committed to going to school at UMKC. Here's why: 1. Political climate in both states - being lgbtq+ (particularly transgender) in either Missouri or Kansas has gotten a lot worse in recent years and it'll get even worse than how it is now depending on how this next election goes. 2. Too car centric/not robust enough of a transit system - I really would prefer to not have to drive to work every day, but the transit system in KC is laughable at best. I wouldn't be able to get from where I live to where I work in a reasonable amount of time, if at all, using public transit. I'm glad we're getting more bike lanes and the streetcar extension, but I would really like a commuter rail system from the suburbs to downtown, and have bus routes split from the rail stops. Though I don't see that happening anytime soon, and I know getting another streetcar line is probably going to be several years away also. Also, traveling around downtown and seeing all the empty and often abandoned parking lots really hurts, and it severely impacts the walkability of the city. 3. Weather - thanks to climate change, it really feels like all but a couple months are blocked off from us doing very much of anything outdoors, and since I'm an outdoorsy person, that's a problem.
