Thank you for taking the time to explain. I've been in denial I'm having seizures and don't need my medication. Went to get an MRI and EEG then was given meds and not explained anything which is why I'm in denial. In my reports it also says PNES and seizure disorder, which is why I don't take, taking my meds seriously. I feel I don't need them. Last time I spoke to my neurologist she told me missing a dose isn't dangerous, so my mind definitely won't take it seriously anymore. I'm trying to be as educated as possible. I'm new to this and it can be scary.

Hi Dr Omar You are so right ! I’m 70 ! Was Dx’d one year ago ! I thought it just occurred in childhood. Saw a neurologist that sees children. He’s the head of neurology under my insurance. He’s a nice guy. But I had 17 eegs. Test pulled chunks of my hair out ! 🥲 I didn’t understand epilepsy. I know I felt awful. He gave me meds that didn’t work over and over. 45.00 for him to say “I’m worried about you “ ???? So I didn’t get it. He didn’t explain. I took his meds. But I took them wrong. Ended up close to death in early November. Middle of the night got up and took too many. Had no idea I did that. Finally started to take this seriously. That’s when I found you. I’m very concerned. He doesn’t care much. He’s too busy. If I get another opinion it would be under him. I don’t want to hurt him. I’m thinking of the Cleveland clinic. I need a pet scan. I need help

Really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing your expertise. Can temporal lobe seizures be caused by chemical imbalances alone? Thinking some dietary changes could help, because seizure onset occurred 2 days after stopping ingestion of aspartame and alcohol. MRI and CT scan were clear. Thank you!

Thank you.. If seizures are caused by sudden withdrawal of alcohol that does not mean it is Epilepsy. Epilepsy is seizures without trigger. Ask your neurologist

I had my first tonic-clonic when I was 17. I took Depakote randomly if I was having to wake up early , to not have the myoclonics. Stopped when I got pregnant, with no replacement medications. As I have gotten older, my epilepsy has gotten worse. I've tried every medication appropriate for my epilepsy (14 I thiink), tried VNS twice (different models) and now have DBS, which was done about a year ago. I am seeing a little bit of difference but still take Lamictal, Briviact, Xcopri, and Ativan. I am 49 now. How long will it take to see a big difference with the DBS and possibly reduce meds?

Thanks for your time for explaining the about Seizure medication. My 8year old daughter is suffering from Seizure attack more than 4years. Her MRI shows ok but EEG shows abnormal. Seizure started when she was 3.5 year old. Earlier she used to get once in a 6 month but after Jan 2021 she is getting every 2 month with multiple cluster episodes and now since Dec last week every alternate days she gets. She was admitted to hospital twice since last 10days and now she is on oral steroids. She was on anti epileptic medicine since June 2020. I am residing in Bangalore India. Any leads/advice would be greatly appreciated. We are very panic and unable to lead normal life because of this

Antiepileptic Medications are horrible, I have tonic clonic seizures, I take 900mg of Keppra, 1500mg of Depakote, and 200mg of XCOPRI. I also have had brain surgery and still having seizures. I'm having horrible side effects now. I'm just not sure what I should do. Now my heart is hurting and it feels like I have poor circulation on right side of my body and high blood pressure and heart rate is high. I'm 39 and just miserable. I don't know what to do

I'm sure you've gotten this question a million times but How do neurologists differentiate anxiety & panic attacks from seizures? Every day I get these anxiety attacks but idk how to tell if they're seizures. They've been coming every single day for the last 6 months and my neurologist doesn't think they're seizures
@DrOmarDanoun

Panic attacks are long and only anxiety and seizures are short less than 2 minutes and progress from one Sign to another

We always start slowly and lower dose and the target dose is smaller as well in elderly. Depending on the tolerability and the background of the patient. Full details are in the Lamotrigine video

My experience with anti-seizure medicines is that they change the body metabolism that your body becomes too dependent on them that if you try to change the brand only, you may get a breakthrough seizure! I understand the need to prevent seizures but I believe it is doable through safer alternatives, like MCT oil and high dozes of DHA from fish oil. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and you not take that as a medical advice. My opinion is based on personal experience that may not work with you.

I appreciate your thoughts on this.. Glad things are going well for you.. But agree, medications are the best way to treat seizures currently and they do not cause dependence
