With all the people I work with on a daily basis I see the same mistakes with almost every dog owner when it comes to training their dog

You might not see this comment but I purchased your book about 2 months ago and I took your advice 1. I had purchased the e collar (sport dog brand) but I set it aside and worked my GSP with the leash daily 2. I made sure that the basic commands sit,down ,come and stay were dialed in 3. I would practice at home but in public I even let the dog off leash near the dog park …. Its big enough not to worry if she ran off 4. Once everything was cleared to the dog I put on the ecollar did the conditioning 1 day, next day my dog was off leash 5. The whole intermittent face has been done off leash and she has excellent recall. I never have the remote in my hands and in a week conditioning included I only used the remote maybe 10-15 times She reacts to my voice the E collar is just their for emergency The remote is never in my hand and my dog is happy as it can be Thanks for all your help

when trying to train my shih tsu, yorkie, poodle, basenji mix i found a lot of videos using large working breeds or border collies with very agreeable personalities who were eager to please. my dog is very intelligent but is not eager to please me and is very independent minded. I managed to train him pretty well this is just something that ive noticed in the training world. trainers use a very easy to train agreeable dog and use that as the template for training every dog. the same methods that work on a GSD wont work on a yorkie.

Honest larry the answer is most people ain't the brightest and I've actually met multiple people who truly believe dogs are born understanding the language of the country they are born

Yeah. Its essential to get the owner to understand that concept but its a though thing to get some people to understand the difference its causes. And the lack of ability to practice abstract thinking and the limitations of the dogs understanding of the world this causes. Thats to me the 2 major differences between people and dogs.

the only time ive had to use obedience in my house was when i would pet sit other dogs at my house. my own dogs were fine but many clients dogs had 0 sense of boundaries especially when it came to using the baby gate to block the kitchen. a lot were not used to being treated like dogs and not mini humans. a lot of dogs also had no idea that certain kinds of training like house breaking dont just mean dont do it at your house but at any house or building the dog is in.

Not sure if this is good or bad but I rough house with my dog (85 lbs bernedoodle) with bare hands and I feel I am able to communicate and teach him so much about boundaries and limits, strengthen my relationship with him actually more then when I play tug with him. He craves for that play and I can take him from 0 to 60 and turn it off as I like. Again, not sure if I am doing anything wrong.

Hearing you talk about ppl who have gone to multiple trainers reminds me of my pro music career. I’d have tons of kids, pros etc come for either lessons or to “audition” to play in the symphony as an extra who were utterly unprepared. Sometimes ppl want to just be validated by someone without doing the work. Ppl think by paying you that you are going to say “oh, wow, you’re amazing!”..and when instead I would say “ok, this, this, this, that, that and all of these things are wrong”..you could just see the disbelief. They were already scheduling their next seminar/lesson with the next professional. Real, professional auditions, sitting behind the screen listening to ppl who have spent tens of thousands on instruments, lessons, degrees, flights, hotels..and they play for literally 5 seconds and you think “omg..who on earth told this person they were remotely ready to play professionally?!?”(like..laughably bad where the committee struggles, and we quickly, desperately look to see who can speak without laughing to tell the candidate “thank you..”) We always tried to just balance getting rid of them because we only have so much time, and giving them some instructive feedback. Ultimately some ppl have no self awareness or ability to improve. Just unlimited arrogance coupled with zero work ethic. Notice I never said talent..no such thing..99%perspiration..1% talent or inspiration..

Always so much respect for your honesty and experience. Can't fault a man who has so much experience and who is exceptional and spends the time to explain. I have had so many bad experiences with dog trainers and there are so many pop up dog trainers that are actually ruined dog owners and dogs sadly. I just do me own thing but I ain't no expert but I just want to help my dog. I always wanted to be a dog trainer but not no more I just want to be the best for my dog. Great talk Larry, thank you.

Thanks a lot for the guidance. I don't use the same tools but that doesn't make all the gold in this talk - your knowledge, attitude and approach for dogs/people highly valuable. The algorithms are brain worms that have made people over reactive. Our attention and emotions are being changed for profit. Resist the horror! ❤

As much as I like Larry Krohn, I still think he would have a hell of a time trying to force my Thai Ridgeback to obey. I've tried everything in the book, and if he is in fact getting more mellow these days, it is mainly because he is getting older, and perhaps understands more. But when he goes berserk he is just a beast. I've had a few dogs in my life, some bigger some smaller, but I've never loved a dog as much as this one. So I'm not going to give up on him, ever.

You would be amazed at how wrong we can be when it comes to our dogs. We're able to see it for what it is When it is somebody else's a dog but we have too much emotion involved with our own and we tend to oversee the Simplicity.

36:06 what if h3 already thinks you're thr greatest thing but still leash reactive? What exercises do i use to fix my dog you just described on leash
@Spartacus4281
@Spartacus4281 18 күн бұрын
If a dog is leash reactive, it means it doesn’t view you as a competent leader. It feels unsafe. You need to work on the relationship with your dog. You think your dog thinks you’re the greatest but the dog doesn’t. Actions speak loudly. The dog wouldn’t be scared on walks if the dog trusted you properly. Earn the dogs trust and the relativity goes away.

@@Spartacus4281 keep regurgitating that pet smart bs...it's simply not true in this case. This was a random switch flipping in a dog that was perfect before her 2nd heat cycle.
@jackglockstar
@jackglockstar 2 күн бұрын
@Spartacus4281 and you also did exactly what these videos do...NOTHING. saying work on this or that without giving the exercise to do or the know how is moot. What are the steps? What if the threshold crap doesn't work? What if the threshold is 300 yards away? What if that threshold has been walked in and worked on for a solid year to no improvement? Thats the problem...
