Seeing the new Elio teaser trailer and comparing it to the first teaser that premiered in June of last year, it’s complete night and day that not only did the film’s delay from the SAG-AFTRA strike last year resulted in the film’s story being revamped but also the characters including Elio have also changed as well, cause in the original teaser, Elio was afraid and unsure of his new surroundings when he was abducted by aliens while in the new teaser he wants to be abducted by aliens Of course this is Not the first nor is the last time that a Disney or Pixar film had its story and characters completely changed in the final product cause even the same can be said as to what happened with _Meet the Robinsons, Bolt_ (when it was American Dog), _Zootopia, Raya and the Last Dragon,_ and _The Good Dinosaur_ also had their stories revamped and changed in the final version whenever a new director comes in and replace the original director.

@@olleselin Yeah originally Chris Sanders was set to do American Dog (Bolt’s earlier version), but was let go from the project by John Lasseter when he saw an early screening of the film and the film was revamped in late 2006/early 2007. And while Meet the Robinsons wasn’t changed dramatically the film went through 7-9 months of being revamped from the plot, final animation, and new scenes (e.g. DOR-15, Tiny the T.Rex chase, etc..) even some scenes that were in the teaser trailer were not in the final film.

Yeah, this may be an unpopular opinion but I preferred the setup from the initial trailer over this one. Obviously its impossible to tell what kind of movie it was going to be based on a two minute trailer, but I got the vibe that he was an introverted kid who learned to stand up for himself after getting accidentally abducted. It would've been a great switch up compared to how every main character in Disney movies is a quirky protagonist (Anna, Mirabel, Asha, Mei, etc.)

Yeah, I was looking forward to a story where this shy, introverted boy who is clearly unsure of himself has to develop the social skills he's never had in order to successfully fit the Planetary Ambassador role he accidently stumbled backward into. Depending on how that setup shook out, it could have been very entertaining. Obviously I have no way of knowing how the plot will turn out, but this reworking where the kid gets exactly what he wanted right out the gate rubs me the wrong way. Like it might be another one of those movies that prioritizes fantastical wish fulfillment over effective character development. But we'll have to see. All in all, I wish the buzz around this movie was how good its premise looks (or at least is supposed to) and not the fact that it's nearly the last line of defense against an ironclad directive to turn Pixar's foreseeable future movie slate into sequel hell.

I love the alien designs, but the story of "the main character pretends to be someone more influencial than they are only for the 'big' revelation that they are a nobody, yet they save the day afterwards" is a bit overdone. Rango is pretty much the cream of the crop of this trend and I doubt this movie will come close to it. I wish it was a movie about showing different alien cultures and the plot revolving around their cooperation to defeat whatever treath they must deal with. Perhaps this treath is humans and they're scared of their brutish nature. So some aliens want to prohibit human technological progress, some want their eradication, some want to actively modify human cultures to make them more peaceful, and a few simply want to watch humanity without intervention, hoping their fears are unfounded or humans will change by themselves.

I honestly think when people say things like "give it a chance" and all that, they're admitting they think there isn't a visible difference in the lack of appeal of newer movies compared to old pixar classics. And I think you need to recognize that there IS a visible difference that can be immediately spotted in the trailers and that these movies are not disregarded for irrational reasons. They're just not the same as past Pixar movies, they lack anything to make them immediately interesting or uniquely charming. Compare this to... A clever spin on "monsters in your closet" turned into a corporate corruption, buddy-comedy with a cohesive dry humor aesthetic befitting the genre its parodying with both a jazzy soundtrack and a jazz inspired pop art look. Or a glittering love letter to Paris and its culture with a message that combats the very elitism that makes up Paris' art and food scene. The Incredibles was an incredibly aesthetically cohesive dedication to 50s comics and retro culture, while fittingly tackling the subjects of oppression and manhood. Hell, even Cars' theme of Route 66 car culture and Americana was at least a new vibe that was prominent throughout the film. Simply, in my opinion, we just don't need Pixar to make us another bland, dime a dozen "cartoon aliens do hijinx with a child" kind of premise with a generic calarts, big eyes and potato face art style-- even if it is well done. We've all seen Lilo and Stitch ( who stands out to this day perhaps for the simple fact the heart of the story wasn't about space ), we've seen Home, we've seen bubbly Sci-fi adventure for children #34, Pixar used to excel in taking us to places we haven't seen animated before-- this is not grabbing people at a glance the way other movies used to for a reason. These alien settings with randomly shaped creatures in blobby, floaty environments just don't leave an impression from one to the next.

Honestly after seeing Elio trailer all I felt (compared to other trailers) was shallow. It didn't tell me anything except "child wants to see the aliens" and it feels so uninspiring.
