2:04 The purpose of this pump

3:23 What happens when you have low potassium
5:33 What causes low potassium
6:45 Why keto can cause a potassium deficiency
7:59 What to do if you feel tired and weak on keto
In this video, we’re going to talk about potassium and energy. Specifically, why potassium makes you energetic and why a potassium deficiency causes fatigue.
The sodium-potassium pump is a pump in all of the cells of the body. Nearly 30% of all of the energy that is utilized from your body from the food you consume is allocated to this one pump in all of the cells.
The definition of this pump: A mechanism for the movement of electrolytes through the cell membrane.
Electrolytes are electrically charged chemicals or, in this case, the minerals sodium and potassium.
The main goal of this pump is to keep sodium going out of the cell and potassium going in the cell.
When you have different concentrations of electrically charged minerals inside the cell versus outside of the cell, you basically create a battery. The purpose of the sodium-potassium pump is to maintain an electrical charge so that the cell can act as a battery.
The four primary functions:
1. Supports neurons in helping the nerves transmit signals
Low potassium symptoms:
• Brain fog
• Slow reflexes
• Tingling
• Numbness
• Abnormal heart rhythm
2. Works with calcium to help the muscles contract and relax
Low potassium symptoms:
• Fatigue
• Cramps
• Muscle aches/stiffness
• Tremors
• Constipation
• Weakness
• HBP
3. To help the cell establish the correct pH
Low potassium symptoms:
• The body is more acid
4. To help maintain fluid control
Low potassium symptoms:
• Swelling
Potassium deficiency causes:
• Dietary (not consuming foods high in potassium like leafy greens or avocados)
• Diuretics
• Vomiting/Diarrhea
• Diabetes
• Sugar/High carb diets
• Stress
• Keto
* If you started the ketogenic diet and you feel tired and weak, you need to consume more potassium and sodium.

I'm 43 was just hospitalized for low potassium. It was scary. My heart was racing by BP was high I can't so week. They gave me sodium and sent me home. FEW HOURS later and I'm back at the hospital. They found a pe in my left lung. Now 6 weeks later in still suffering. My potassium dropped and I ate high potassium food and a supplement and I felt good again. This stuff is no joke people. Eating food for health is my new goal in life.

so glad you are better. So not sure if this is me but i have been feeling so weak, sleepy and my heart beats not fast but heavy that i feel like you can see my chest moving or head shaking. To day i felt the worst. I was so weak and dizzy i wasn't sure if im was going to pass out so i went to urgent care. My blood pressure was high 135/ 49 first, then 117/75, then 127/95 and the heart was going fast. I had the waves of feeling really weak and weird to feeling better. My potassium was 3.7 where range was 3.5 -5.1. And if you look at the numbers it docent look so bad but when you see the pic of the test you can see that 3.5 is far from the 5.1 and im just right by the 3.5. I really believe this is the problem. Doctors dont obviously. Thank you for sharing

How? What did you eat or changed in your diet? I am doing the Keto 8 months now. Never had sugar cravings for sweet foods even before doing Keto, but my sugar is still high between 125 or 130 in the morning. I heard stress can cause this. I’m on strict keto and now taking 2 / 1,500 mg potassium tablets daily. Huge difference in energy! My doctor had no problem prescribing the potassium. Energy improved in 24 hours! You can buy potassium over the counter, but have to take a handful of pills to get the same amount. Keto diet has produced a 20 pound weight loss in 5 weeks.

@@melvinrexwinkle1510 He would never get enough potassium from 7 cups of green leafy vegetables a day. You would also have to have 5 avocados also to meet the RDA requirement. I eat a large salad each day and according to Cronometer I only ended up with 1140 mg of potassium well short of the 4700 mg. If I include all the other foods I ate I come to 83% of RDA requirements. That meal plan also included a full avocado.

Adding Potassium Chloride salt substitute will give you about 360 to 400 mg per tsp. Cream of Tartar and tomato juice is high in potassium. 1 cup of tomato juice has about 960 mg. I take in 1 tsp( which is about 1000 mg of potassium) of Cream of Tartar in 1 cup of tomato juice plus taking in at least 7 cups of leafy greens and other fruits and vegetables high in potassium like celery, coconut water, bananas, dates, etc.

I think Dr Berg would say his 7-10 cups would get him there. But part of the problem is that most potassium supplements are only 100mg per pill bc of a small % of people who might overdose. Dr Berg does have his supplement powder. 1000mg per scoop. Thanks for the other suggestions. Getting this right plus the materials for your mitochondria is a large part of your cellular energy and overall health. 👍
