I think this video really showing how hard it is to write a story in general cause you always have to tow the line between fiction and reality. You can’t just go off the walls and do whatever you want in a story like JJK but if you stick too close to reality then it gets kinda stale. Like it’s hard to write a compelling story that’ll keep your audience captivated all the way through.
@Allons-Y-043 ай бұрын
Rly well said tbh, 100% agree
@CloudyDaze3 ай бұрын
TL;DR: Not really tbh. I mean it's hard to write definitely but to see where it fell apart is easy. I will say, JJK got away with a lot with the idea of Show don't Tell. There are SO many points of intrigue and plot hooks and loose ends and mysteries in this story. Gege does an excellent job of making you want to know more, revealing just enough to keep you engaged, but the board open enough for the audience to come to their own conclusions. In storytelling this kind of approach is lauded as masterful and high level. Because without a doubt it is. A lot of authors fall into the pittrap of exposition and info dumps because they wanna get straight to the fun part. Gege avoided this by having so many mysteries the audience ended up writing entire plots and scenarios and explanations for themselves. Theories, Essays, Critical Analysis, it really JUST IS your own personal interpretation of the media, based on your own experiences and interpretation of what you believe the themes are in the story. It's why writing is inherently subjective. You can't really be good or bad. I think the problem like you said does come with towing the line. At the end of the day, Gege fell into a pitfall of his own that's inherent to weekly manga format: Cliffhangers. Every chapter has rising stakes and climbing tension, but naturally with all things; diminishing returns start to kick in. Eventually, people got tired because their expectations can't really go any higher. People were getting frustrated because questions were not being answered fast enough. Headcanon was not being addressed. Discussions stopped being about discussing if the grates in Shibuya symbolized rivers and boundaries being crossed, as in reference to so and so buddhist teachings. The conversations shifted to "Boy I wonder if ANYTHING is actually going to stick this time?". To a large part you can blame the audience. Kind of like investing in cryptocurrency or any other scam, you only have yourself to blame to putting fancies in your head that were not meant to be there to begin with... but at what point does it become the story's responsibility to meet those expectations set for it? I think if JJK wasn't set to end this year, or in the next couple years, we'd be in a pretty rosy place right now, because we'd have more to look forward too. More expectations to raise. More answers to questions that have been asked, but because we are in the finale and the realization that this might honestly be all we are going to get, it's frustrating. Because then the conversation shifts to "what could have been". And when you're done looking at the future, you start looking back at the story and start being more critical of the things you've once been hopeful for, annoyed it might not be addressed anymore. JJk as a production is definitely cautionary tale to be sure. To burn bright like a flash, brilliant in the moment, but ending leaving you feel empty because that was it. Until you move on to the next cool thing. As a short flash in the pan story, JJK is unbelievably peak, but to put down the people who genuinely believe it had staying power and was going to be something timeless, special, or just something more... that's a bit unfair to them I feel.
@kitanat99443 ай бұрын
@@CloudyDazeGreat analysis! I was so interested in where the story could go after watching the anime, but the story drops so many things going forward that it feels like there could be a closet full of Chekov’s guns in Gege’s room. I always hear that it’s non-standard story-telling, but I honestly just think it’s written like a short story rather than a book. The only thing keeping it from being that is just fighting. I can definitely tell they know how to make a short story, and maybe why they never had plans for a full series. I just hate when people take something different to be something incredible inherently. Something can be different and incredible, but things can certainly be either or.
@CloudyDaze3 ай бұрын
@@kitanat9944 I will say, following the behind the scenes commentary and events from Gege has been nothing short of disheartening. Part of the fun for me, and frankly to a lot of people, especially to the theorist spaces most likely, was to try to pick apart the themes and to find meaning and to make our own conclusions to the story. We originally attributed a lot of the clever ideas and twists to Gege as a mark of genius, because we had the idea in our head this all was intentional. Why else would things be put in the story if they did not need to be there. Then come to find out that Yuki was originally supposed to be the main villain, Yuji was actually supposed to stay dead in chapter 9, with Sukuna jumping to Megumi making him the protagonist, Kenjaku being finalized as a character as he was sealing Gojo... the culling games as a whole being the only part of the series Gege was super looking forward to writing... it really kind of sent me a wake up call. It's one thing to be proven wrong about a theory and fail to predict an outcome. That's all well and good. But I think you lose something when you find out there wasn't as much meaning in the original story as you thought. You feel betrayed in yourself and in the author because you built them up on a pedestal for essentially work that you put in to make this story work. This is why I can proudly say the audience is mostly at fault for putting these expectations on Gege. The fact of the matter is, it just really wasn't ever that deep. We just put our own headcanon into thinking it was... but that still sucks. We can extrapolate and even theorize our own answers to our heart's content. But at this point we're better off just writing fanfiction. Because thematic spotting stops being about the work. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Sometimes a fight manga is just a fight manga. I've feel like I've been through the stages of grief in this series but I can say I can enjoy whatever experience this is. Non-conventional storytelling or not, I don't have to call it bad to say i don't enjoy it nearly as much as a story anymore. But I can still enjoy this cultural phenomenon of JJK as it stands. It's the most popular series around right now. I have fun with the toxic agendas and the memes. I even like watching theories and analysis and videos on JJK STILL. But I don't buy into the hype anymore and as sad as it is, I'd rather see this through to the end. I don't have expectations anymore because it wouldn't be fair to Gege. But I will enjoy the ride til the end to see how everyone else reactions.

@@CloudyDaze Summarized my feelings entirely. Just disappointing when starting this series with my friend as I was theorizing so much and I couldn’t understand why my friend looked at me like that. He later told me he felt bad since he knew it just wasn’t that deep and didn’t know what to say. I was just left feeling angry thinking I’d found a Hunter X Hunter successor that was more my speed. Looking back, it’s really not its fault it wasn’t what I hoped it was. Like you said, my hopes and expectations were wildly out of control and at the end of the day, this is just a battle shounen called Sorcerer Fight that may have been forced to look a bit different from the start because of editors.

I think Yuji to an extent also has a similar “less emotive/locked in” thing as Shibuya Sukuna, but I don’t think it’s a problem in nearly the same way. I think it’s primarily because: A. Yuji is still clearly on his back foot, and not just tanking everything. B. Alongside that, his stoicism is shaken way more often throughout the fight C. While Sukuna’s eyes more often than not give the vibe of him being bored, Yuji’s eyes are constantly flared open, showing how locked in and focused he is on saving Megumi TLDR: Wuji Himadori > King of Coincidences

The problem is that Gege has no idea of how a tank should be written. Many RPG players know that just eating damage is boring, unless your teammates kill the boss for you. Sukuna has no allies to do damage for him, so nerfing his output made him as entertaining as a wall, that will occasionally lose a brick and hit the protagonists in the head.

My main theory is still that Sukuna will lose in the most fitting way possible: By his own actions coming back to bite him. He's been continuously abusing binding vows so much that the image of him being squeezed to death by the metaphorical chains of his vows (demonstrating the process as he explained it to Yuji) will come to pass in reality as he will inadvertently break one of the vows he made, simply because he has made so stupidly many overlapped ones that he overlooked the details of one of them. He tried to game the system, cheated continuously and shamelessly, and ultimately screwed himself over. The ultimate con artist, finally brought to his end, by his own hands. Gege has always said all he cares about is realizing the story; and no matter how unsatisfying it may be, the story itself, as it is, DEMANDS that Sukuna can only be felled by his own failings, as the protagonists simply could not reasonably reach his, or even Gojo's, level in the limited amount of time they had, even with the soul swapping learning cheat. It will be in the spirit of JJK's irregular-for-a-shonen-story format, as well. So... yea; that's what I genuinely see happening. As to what will happen following this, Sukuna will likely try to initiate the merger, proving himself a hypocrite in his final moments by clinging to life just as he did through his reincarnation as a cursed object, and Yuji will likely sacrifice himself to take in all the cursed energy of the world to erase the threat it poses to humanity, ironically serving as the ideal vessel for all the pain of humanity, going beyond what even Kenjaku had ever intended for him. We shall see.

His criticisms were hollow and here's why. 1. He said Gege should have made anti Sukuna squad stronger which he did thru Ui Ui's soul swapping. 2. He said Sukuna should have died to Gojo's HP in 235 which can be debunked by Sukuna overestimating purple and Gojo not even aiming for Sukuna. 3. He said Sukuna should have used something else to evade Yuta's HP but didn't actually provide "How" and just said "Somehow". Also makes no sense how he expects Yuta to even master purple on the level of Gojo in such a short span. 4. Gojo's students being on his level defeats the theme of solitude being the absolute strength. Students can't become indivdually stronger than Gojo and thats a fact. 5. All of the problems wudn't even exist in the anime This entire video feels like lashing out all anger on Sukuna which he feels cuz of all the hate Yuta is receiving.

@@Juryoku113 I mean honestly for point 2, Sukuna or Gojo underestimating something they have seen used multiple times just feels like really lame writing. These characters are shown as not only powerful, but incredibly smart. During their fight, they're constantly coming up with new tactics and discovering new stuff about jujutsu, and they were so evenly matched in ways to win it really did feel like whoever outsmarted the other won the fight. So to say that a character won because of an underestimation feels kind of dumb from a narrative standpoint. Saying "I will die if I'm hit by this", then getting hit by it, and going "lmao nevermind" is just sort of a dumb subversion imo.

EXACTLY! To me, I do not even see him as strong anymore. It is all about how much bs Gege can allow him to tank out of. There is no strategy in anything he does anymore. It is all about him getting beat up and Gege allowing him to tank it then a random convenient Binding Vow showing up. IT IS BORING and has destroyed this finale arc for me so far.. I think Meguna and Yujikuna were a MUCH better reputation of his title of the "strongest" and it feels like that title died with Gojo because I just do NOT see it with this Heian Sukuna. Like if Plot Armor was a character it would be Heian Sukuna. We do not want to see him tanking everything until Gege decides he is not important anymore. I wanted to see him OUTSMARTING the main cast which HAS NOT been happening. People seem to overlook how Yuta's plan within his Domain Expansion WAS FLAWLESS. They had no trouble at all. Sukuna just sat there tanking everything... The only issue was Megumi. It had nothing to do with their plan. That SUCKS. The strongest actually got outsmarted.. And the only reason he survived was again... Because Gege decided to let him tank everything and have a convenient moment with his dismantle... It was nothing special.. I actually think you summed up my feelings on the matter perfectly. Sukuna's cycle has become boring because Sukuna's approach to combat with these guys has been boring. The reason that Sukuna was such an incredible and intimidating villain wasn't just because he was the strongest, but because he was so knowledgeable and resourceful when it came to jujutsu that you couldn't even imagine our heroes outsmarting him, let alone actually beating him in a direct fight. Sukuna's battles showcased that he was the strongest, not even because of the strength of his cursed technique, but because of his ingenuity and proficiency with it that allowed him to straight up just outclass the other big 3. The reason Meguna has so much aura compared to his other forms is that now he gets a busted ability like 10s and he shows exactly how many options and tactical advantages he can make in a split second using 10s. As Heian era, he's just a giant sandbag who eventually gets bored and one shots his opponents. The only person who has really done much to subvert this cycle is Yuji, who the story for some reason seems hellbent not to just let him keep cooking. I agree that characters should have been allowed to get much stronger. Sukuna's overwhelming strength was only one part of why he was the strongest, and watching him finesse the cast with binding vows and obscure and genuinely inspired uses of jujutsu to pull the win even as he was slowly weakening from the gauntlet would have been a really cool way to show just how exceptional he really is. Instead we get people like Kusakabe getting to just combo the shit out of him until he gets bored and one shots him; Sukuna feels like an unbeatable tutorial boss, whose purpose is to let you smack him around until you've learned/showed all that you can do, then he just beats you to advance the story.

I love this video. You did a great job pinpointing my exact problem with how this fight has gone ever since Gojo died. I don't have a problem with no individual student surpassing Gojo, but the idea was for the students to surpass him in the aggregate by working together to kill Sukuna. And I understand that Sukuna is the strongest, but him just tanking everything is only showing how ridiculously stronger Gojo is than all of his students COMBINED. Sure, buffing the students more or nerfing Sukuna less could've made the fight more exciting, but I think there could've been an even easier solution. Have Sukuna (or any character for that matter) acknowledge the fact that no one is actually going for a killing blow bc they're still trying to save Megumi!!! There have been multiple instances where a character could've decapitated Sukuna and just ended the battle (Gojo's first black flash, Maki's sneak attack, etc.), but no one mentions it! Instead Sukuna just loses an arm or his heart and gets slightly more nerfed which then requires even more plot armor for Sukuna to keep the fight going. I still wouldn't love this outcome but it at least would be better than Sukuna just having unlimited durability against anyone who isn't Gojo. It would also play into how ruthless Sukuna is as a character. He'd be taking advantage of the fact that all the other characters actually care about other people, whereas Sukuna only cares about himself.

JJK really hates the idea of rewarding the main cast and audiences for the sake of its realism. Gege couldn't realistically justify the idea of the main cast getting that much stronger in one month. At the same time, Gege really wanted to jump straight into the culling games arc, as seen in his original draft that got rejected. The first 3 arcs, not incuding the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death/Star Plasma Vessel arc and JJK0, weren't long enough for the main characters to become strong enough in the Shinjiku Showdown arc. So this leaves the treatment of Sukuna as the Raid boss of a game, with the main cast wayy to underleveled for the encounter. And so the only reasonable way to take him down is to hurl one after the other, whittling down Sukuna until he makes a mistake, leaving an opening for whomever is still left alive to finish him off. So I really wished the end boss fight was Sukuna truly in his 20 finger prime, against the party of peak special grade sorcerers. Would have made the last arc way more enjoyable than beefcake Sukuna. (Of course if the team planned any more competently, then Sukuna could have been long packed up by now in my opinion.)
@MarioMR603 ай бұрын
I get your criticism. I think Gege is showing a character fault here: He made a really good strategy for Gojo and thaught that JUST saving his transformation and for later and receiving Kamutoke would be enough to beat them easily. He was cocky af as soon as his rival (Gojo) died and made decisions that go along this mentality. Like he was vs Higuruma. But he really didnt know abt the soul damage tactics which will prolly result in his loss soon.

“The heavy hitters should be stronger, not Sukuna be weaker” has literally been my main problem with JJK since post Gojo v Sukuna. That fight really did feel like both fighters were actively trying to twist their knives in at every angle possible, instead of after that where everyone keeps stabbing Sukuna and he just loses 1 HP each. I love JJK’s fights because each fighter is attempting to bend around their opponent, and it’s always keeping the readers engaged. If every fight was just both fighters blasting each other with max output to see who would win, that would’ve made the whole series a snoozefest. I hope that Gege is trying to mitigate this issue moving forward. Seeing Yuta’s HP basically be shrugged off makes NO SENSE. The attack literally destroys all mass in its path, how the fuck does that attack only result in his skin (bending the opposite direction to a circle, mind) being slightly burnt off? And it’s why everyone’s guessing that JL will just do nothing.

I always like to spice things up by giving enemies unique things they can do so that the battle kind of changes as it goes along rather than just have the players burn spells and abilities to chew through hundreds of hit points, you know? It feels like Gege is somehow hitting this problem via writing.

I was scrolling through my KZbin feed when I had saw this video. Since I had nothing really better to do at the moment, and I was a bit interested, I decided to sit down and patiently listening to what you had to say before forming my own response, even if it isn’t wanted. I’m not one of those people who love to dick ride the King of Curses himself, Sukuna, though I can very much say that he’s one of my favorite all time antagonists in anime for sure. He’s cocky, tactical, selfish, powerful, and works extremely well with the protagonists of the story. Before I continue I’d like to say that as much as we joke about Gege being a bad or terrible writer, he truly isn’t. JJK takes the reader seeing certain things or narratives that the writer makes in order to show why things are happening in a certain fashion, and just because we can’t see or understand them at the moment, does mean their bad (this is mostly for everybody in the comments). Sukuna vs Gojo, the two current strongest in the JJK world. It was such an amazing fight that showed us what JJK is all about, and it does it perfectly as we watch Gojo and Sukuna go back and forth trying to out do the other, as it’s not about power in that fight, but adapting to the situation and deceit. Gojo starting the fight off with a 200%-300% Hollow Purple that was hidden from Sukuna, Sukuna using the Ten Shadows to slowly understand how to get around Gojo’s defense, Gojo slowly adapting to Sukuna’s Domains Clashes, and lastly Sukuna landing the final blow on Gojo after catching him off guard, since Gojo never expected to get hit by one of his slashes, let alone one that could actually reach him. And after Gojo goes down, we watch as the students and friends he’s made along his life as the strongest come to face down against the man that since the beginning of the anime has been talked about. I disagree with your state of the cast being made stronger, as it’s crazy enough that they can last this long with the man of legend himself. Gojo believes that the new generation of sorcerers should be stronger then whatever ranks have been placed upon the sorcerer society, and they are. Yuji, the child blessed sparks. Yuta, the cursed child. Maki, the monster of the Zenin Clan. Hakari, the luckiest man alive. Because the strongest is down they now all have to wittle away at Sukuna, either falling after they’ve served their purpose in the story, or evolving to new heights.
@Jaster693 ай бұрын
Whenever a character fights Sukuna, it shows us that while they aren’t all at the level of Gojo just yet, them working together allows them to push back against one of the strongest. Yuji and Yuta vs Sukuna was amazing. First, I have to say this. They weren’t tanking his slashes fully because he was weakened, as within this showdown we learn that their Curse Reinforcement has gotten a lot stronger, allowing them to tank them better. Now then, Yuta and Yuji weaken his combat capabilities, his ability to his CT, and damage him a bit before their fight ends, which is amazing. Some of the strongest of the new gen being able to even deal that much significant damage to a man of legend spoken about and feared throughout the JJK world is fantastic and shows how much they’ve grown. The “Sukuna Cycle” might be boring to those who don’t wanna really look into things, though it’s exciting to see how the character use what they have to slowly break down the king or evolve. Do I think Sukuna is more boring after the Gojo fight, not really. Sure, he’s not the chaotic crackhead we all know and love, though that’s because he’s literally fighting children verse one of his favorite fights ever. Yes, it’s very in character for him to be bored and to not really use complicated stuff against people who he doesn’t respect or take seriously enough on a consistent basis. JJK is more of a serious anime than anything, so watching Sukuna stances up against Yuji in that panel you used a lot in your video makes sense. He’s fighting somebody who has the potential to climb up to his level, and he hates Yuji the most, he’s not gonna smile, he’s gonna think. And it makes the scenes where he does show those moments of excitement or anger better. And as for the JL Hana used on him, because of her arm being missing she can’t achieve the same output as she normally would be able to. If you pay close attention to when a character loses an arm, there is always some draw back that comes with it, like the old fast guy being caught by Jogo because his missing arm threw him off, or show Sukuna can’t do WCS without his other arms. I truly just think the only actual issue here is that the manga takes a while to come out, and reading this fight every week or two weeks makes these things you have to actually read into kinda a drag to some people.
@Allons-Y-043 ай бұрын
The thing is tho… I understand and can appreciate all of this already. It all makes sense and I do think Gege is a great writer… but in this case it ‘making sense’ doesn’t rly stop me from finding it boring. Gojo vs Sukuna on the other hand is genuinely peak so we can agree on that for sure

i think sukuna is still holding back if that makes sense it's why he falls back into his nonchalant or bored state once he realizes his opponents are not what he was expecting at the start of the fight with gota, he looked all excited, but then went back to looking bored or confused when he noticed yuta was having trouble adjusting to the new body and using the ct or how he shoved yuji to the side when he saw gota, like "i don't want to play with you brats anymore" even though they are putting in the work and damaging sukuna, for some damn reason, sukuna is not going all the way and i still don't think we have a full explanation on shrine, which i kinda find weird how everyone acts like they fully understand it

I have some crackpot theories about what's gonna happen, i see that jjk is all about jumping vs soloing and paralells, no jumping has ever gone wrong for anyone in jjk, including the bad guys, jumps have always "won" in jjk in one way or another, as for parallels, the way i see it, yuji will somehow eat sukuna (who has parallels to mahito and will get "eaten" the same way) and somehow seal megumi (who has parallels to gojo and will get sealed too), since geto/psuedo geto has parallels with yuji it's a theory but i think sukuna will basically give up on breaking yuji's ideals and kill yuji in the real world, straight up, and eat him in front of the cast gruesomely, making yuji reach closure in reaching his ideal of martyrdom and fulfilling the curse set up by yuji's grandfather, and simultaneously having sukuna break his own ideal set up in chapter 248 (when sukuna was on the bridge thinking to himself, he had developed a singular ideal or desire to shatter yuji's ideals) and essentially sealing sukuna's fate to die (toji said he lost as soon as he twisted his own ideals when gojo purpled him, same thing will happen to sukuna), basically, sukuna will set up the dominos for his own downfall by twisting his own newfound ideals (hating on yuji lol) and pretending he still has no ideals like before I think it's set up prior and that there's no asspull if yuji will survive anyway because he turned his own finger into a cursed tool right before getting eaten, pulling a fast one on sukuna and "infiltrating" megumi's body as the last part of the jumping plan (plan z), which is where yuji will actually dominate and eat sukuna's soul with megumi and ten shadow's help and basically control megumi's body ("sealing" megumi like kenjaku sealed gojo? Or controlling megumi like yuta controlled gojo?) then yuji will start the merger by killing all his allies for the requirement set up by the culling game (he'd somehow be giving everyone a good death?) And the series somehow ends on a bittersweet note with yuji in megumi's body starting the merger to fix everything i guess
@comedygold62493 ай бұрын
I mean, jumpings had failed before, but the point is the "new way" vs "old way" with the new way giving space for everyone to live up to their ideals without being forced into twisting them, noritoshi kamo jr. Okay, this is my second comment after viewing the video. I agree with you. The cast the should’ve been a lot stronger, but I really blame Sukuna for that. Him being a tank within itself is a feat on its own merits. There should’ve been given much more time to the cast to train and get closer to Gojo level to even ensure that Sukuna is to pull all the stops to win. Now I have absolutely no issue with how the battle has been playing out so far. Sukuna using binding vows to the extent that it’s being used is a stroke of genius and talent on his side of things. Truthfully, if the cast was stronger, then Sukuna trying harder would definitely change the outcome of the story. For better or worse? I have no idea. The story is still currently going so we’ll have to wait and see.

As a sukuna glazer Honestly I agree with this standpoint what makes Sukuna interesting to me is the ways of how he outsmarts his opponent and learns how to defeat his opponents instead of being able to tank everything a great example of that is in his fight with Gojo and Mahoraga but now it’s just binding vows which I find a bit annoying and stale but I wish Sukuna would use binding vows in a more interesting way like when he made a binding vow to create a domain expansion because he couldn’t use his normal hand sign because his brain was damaged and his binding vow to create a world slash requiring 3 arms instead of 2 and stuff like that but I still believe in Gege sure I wouldn’t call him a perfect writer but I feel like at the end of the day we will all look back at this and start to think maybe the shinjuku showdown arc wasn’t that bad

Caution. This comment became so much longer than i intended it to be. Read with care. I think part of the reason why sukuna has been somewhat relegated to a "tank" is because almost none of the sorcerers fighting him have any character relevance to him. To most of the sorcerers, sukuna is just an enemy to defeat. There's no deeper reason for them to fight him. Yuji is arguably the only one that has a deeper reason to fight him, but we can't have the one on one so early in the fight, so we have to give individual moments to these characters to conclude their arcs. Miguel, larue, and kusakabe are the prime examples of this. Each of them only regard sukuna as an enemy to defeat, and facing him means certain death. Kusakabe had this whole chapter dedicated to exploring him as a character, how he views himself as a weak coward and how despite that, people like mei mei, nanami, and gojo respect him for his strength and kindness. Miguel and larue also had half a chapter dedicated to their reasons and motivations to fight in the sukuna raid, being to mourn the losses of their family. Both of these examples have fuck all to do with sukuna as a character, and so their fights aren't as interesting. Also, your critique of sukuna surviving yuta's domain because of megumi and not because of sukuna's tactical genius is a little short sighted, because sukuna doesn't always have to win thanks to battle iq. If megumi was in a better state of mind then sukuna would've lost, but the reason megumi wasn't in the first place was because of sukuna killing his sister and now his sensei. His actions from before directly helped his own survival, and i think that's a valid enough reason for him to survive that specific encounter. Finally, and this is purely my own opinion, I prefer this new, calmer, sukuna. We have seen three versions of sukuna. itadori/sukuna, megumi/sukuna, and heian era sukuna. These three versions of him almost feel like three different characters. As if each form brought out three distinct characteristics of sukuna himself. Itadori/sukuna is honestly my least favorite version. Part of it is because gege himself said that he didn't do much research on the real life ryomen sukuna and so in my opinion made him a bit one dimensional. He was manic, hysterical, and only cared about the pleasure right in front of him. It almost felt cartoony how one dimensional he was. The only thing that was interesting about him was his "enchain" vow and his plans for megumi. Even in shibuya, despite showing his overwhelming might and devastating destruction in the fights with jogo and mahoraga, I still didn't think that he was that interesting because we had seen it all before from other series. Hell, mahito seemed more interesting than him. When he took over megumi's body, though, that's when i found him interesting. His actions had made a permanent turn in the story, flipping the entire premise upside down. Back in ch 214 when itadori and sukuna were grabbing each others necks, calling back to that color page of them doing that exact thing, i finally understood the gravity of the conflict between these two. I finally understood why sukuna was the big bad. His whims turn the story on their head, his actions hurt everyone around him, and his presence is felt throughout the whole story. The exact moment he takes megumi's shadows, we truly see the darkness of his malice. In megumi's body, he's more cunning, more patient, more calculative. He doesn't care if he has to use megumi, a teenager, to tank unlimited void. He doesn't care about looking weak while getting beat up by gojo. He doesn't even care about being the strongest. All he cares about is his own pleasure and displeasure. And then we get to heian era sukuna. His form and body language exude superhuman. He feels regal, and immovable. His calculative shadowy aspects are put aside, and his whimsical, pure might is shown on full display. Even while taking on yuji and yuta, he remains idly smiling. even while taking a beating from the two of them, he fights back with a smile. his attitude alone is interesting to read. I feel like this is truly sukuna in his final form. Both physically and characteristically. He's returned to his original form, has his full power back, and taken back his status as the strongest. This is the perfect balance of his early series mania and his current "divine" presence. The entire final arc is a singular fight with sukuna. It literally revolves around him. He is the main constant throughout this fight. I don't think there has ever been a final arc like that in anime manga history. And of course, there's his disregard and hatred for yuji. The interesting thing with these two's dynamic, is that before, sukuna was this ticking time bomb just waiting to explode. He was the unstoppable force to yuji's immovable object. Sukuna was the one challanging yuji, breaking him again and again only for yuji to keep getting back up. Now, in this final arc, it is sukuna that is the one being challenged. After killing gojo, sukuna had become "the strongest," the reigning champ, the final boss. It was now sukuna's turn to defend his title, his entire being from yuji and his unbreakable soul. Now in ch 257 sukuna can't even make yuji flinch anymore. The only time that made yuji waver for a moment was when sukuna mirrored what happened back in shibuya, razing the entire city of shinjuku, but thanks to the combined efforts of his old and new brothers, he bounced right back. Now yuji has become the unstoppable force, with sukuna's immovable status breaking chapter by chapter. Even if this video is true on all fronts, to me this single dynamic is the one reason i'm locked in till the end

I love Sukuna because of what he means to the story. In volume zero Jujutsu Kaisen is a story where the curse of love reigns supreme in the modern era. But once Sukuna is incarnated this narrative shifts, chapter one is literally named after him. Yuji and Megumi are like ants to this freaky ass malevolent deity and while Gojo does stomp his ass this shift in narrative from love to malice is only reaffirmed, first when Mahito casts kills Junpei and casts his domain, then when yuji and nobara power up by ending lives and I think this comes to a boiling point when Sukuna wreaks havoc on Shibuya. When he kills Jogo he says to reach the heights of the strongest you must burn all you desire to a cinder and leave your comrades in the dust. Sukuna is such a dawg the themes of the narrative bent to his will. But I'd say it doesn't feel special anymore once we enter the culling games which is why Sukuna taking over Megumi and becoming a major player renewed that mysticism to him. But now in Shinjuku showdown there's really nothing interesting going on with Sukuna, even that battle hungry attitude has been toned down so he feels a lot more generic at the moment.

I kind of agree. I recently watched a video where the KZbinr compared a character to Sukuna, saying that the character has Sukuna-level aura. Now, Sukuna doesn't even have "Sukuna-level aura." And that's crazy.

The most impressive thing sukuna has done this entire showdown is pop a domain and fire arrow. People say he’s the strongest but he hasn’t done anything to show it but just survive everybody’s devastating techniques which are pretty much rendering him a cripple

Outmatched everyone in the series, and dominated the strongest time in history, gojo would be the next best, no one else remotely in the cast can fuck with gojo so why could anyone else damage him without yuji💀

@@theycallmetray396his showcase as the strongest was the most mediocre showcase I’ve ever seen. He took so much damage and got beat up so much, and it didn’t start getting interesting to watch him fight until he hit his first black flash. Gojo is a whole other conversation.

Gotta remember, to be smart, strategic, creative etc. you need to be *not tired* and badly injured. Fatigue really affects the brain: Brain needs a steady blood pressure just to work properly. To me, using only binding vows, means that Sukuna is getting too tired and is working more on autopilot, using binding vows that he has thought of before the fight, instead of thinking on the fly.

Here is way to make it more exciting, have Saluna use his slashes as a wall. He did against Yuta's kitana in the first round, hasn't done ot since.

So I hear what you saying and I agree with some of your points but I had to lay down my thoughts because I watched this video and reread shinjuku I understand you wanted the team to be much stronger but given how they had a month of training and no one I mean no one really knew how capable Sukuna really was, I think it’s understandable to see how this fight played out how it was. Let’s address The times that Sukuna “tanked” 1. Yuta and Yuji jumping him. He was using hollow wicker basket to block sure hit and Yuta pulled out various techniques that Sukuna couldn’t have accounted for; precog, cleave, spatial etc. Keep in mind Yuji also has the an ability to literally affect the soul. Rika and Yuji pin Sukuna while Yuta uses Jacob’s ladder 2. After using WCD an attack that killed Gojo and Kashimo, he splits Yuta only to discover Yuta broke domain on purpose and Maki stabs him with a sword that does damage to the soul. Once again he’s caught off guard. Even if he prepared for maki he couldn’t have known about the sword. Get jumped by Maki Ino and Kusakabe and completely mops them By this point when he black flashes maki. Looking at the panels of all his fights so far he’s smiling enjoying the fights and narrator refers them as appetizers. 3. Kusukabe does slashes jabs and kicks… its understandable how this requires no effort from Sukuna 4. Miguel and Larue show up get their licks in and he gets sneaked by Yuji Choso and Maki. Also the thing that gets Sukuna is once again he got caught off guard by Larue technique basically stun locking him no way he could’ve predicted that especially after getting hit with CT Up until the blackflash combo he was enjoying himself not trying too hard. Cant say he’s bored when he has crazed look hitting BF getting jumped 5. BF Combo. It’s not like Sukuna is casually getting wailed he’s still hitting Yuji with slashes and strikes but Yuji is reaching Sukunas level not Gojo’s. This is the first time ever that he’s forced to lock in 6. Todo and Yuji. Todo is the worse match up for Sukuna as he even admits it. This is because now Sukuna has to watch out not only for Todo but Yuji getting in sneak blows. This works until Sukuna almost pops domain. If he had popped that domain they would’ve been cooked. 7. Yujo. Even Sukuna says he didn’t expect Yuta to take it this far. Sukuna lets Yuta get the hang of the body for a bit and was actively adapting to the situation, not getting hit by same Gojo move, using blue to pull himself after watching Gojo, when he realized Yutas goal of purple . The voice recorder says don’t move once again Sukuna is stun locked and gets hit by Hollow purple 8. Todo and Yuji v2. Sukuna is constantly throw of guard by Todos technique and both him and Yuji used binding vows to improve the effectiveness of their techniques. You cannot predict and strategize accordingly with todo and especially Yuji. An teleporting opponent that has an ability to manipulate the boundaries of the soul. You cannot prepare for that. All I’m saying with this is you are overlooking the circumstances of what has happened. Of course they aren’t reaching Gojo’s heights and even if they were it wasn’t enough for Sukunas height. That’s a lot to expect from teens vs an ascended human that has experienced war with most of his conscious life. The purpose of the fight is to free Megumi and the fact they had layered plans shows

I think alot of the problems with this final fight at least to me come down to how Gege handles power progression. Yuji doesn't gain his various abilities over the course of the story or during key character moments. Instead he spends the first 2/3 of the story using nothing but cursed energy reinforcement with the occasional black flash, then he develops simple domain, rct, blood manipulation, and more precise soul attacks off screen. Hell even when he finally unclocks shrine something that's been built up since the beginning of the manga he just kinda starts doing with little to no impact. It's not a "oh shit he's finally doing it" but rather "oh and by the way he can do this now". Him using shrine could have been JJk's equivalent to Ichigo going bankai for the first time but instead it barely gets time to be impactful admist all the other shit going on. Also i agree with you 100% that the heavy hitters should be way closer to Gojos level than they are. It's been set up since the beginning that the new generation would surpass the old and despite how many people want to whine about it power cliffing is a natural thing to happen in long running action stories. It doesn't diminish the feats of those before but highlights the growth those who learned from them. Also it would just be a fitting end to the story, Gojo who spent most of his life isolated due to his strength and status making way for a new generation of the strongest who can share that burden together to me anyway just seems fitting.

The point of having Sukuna getting weaker over time is to showcase of the core themes of Jujutsu Kaisen, which is bonds and friendship vs selfishness and the severing of all bonds. Sukuna is the embodiment of the latter, while Yuji is the embodiment of the former. Sukuna is strong because he trusts in his own strength above all else, Yuji and Yuta are strong because they value their friends and the strength of their friends. This is why despite objectively being stronger than her, Yuta still looks up to pre-Awakened Maki. Sukuna getting worn down constantly is showcasing that through their bonds and connections, they're able to defeat even the individually strongest Sorcerer in history. While Sukuna who values his own strength and desires above all else, has no one else to rely on during these fights. Every blow dealt is against Sukuna and Sukuna alone, no one else to take the hits for him. The fight is a representation of WHY Sukuna's philosphy is inherently flawed. As for Sukuna looking bored, it's pretty much as I believe you stated in the video. He personally doesn't find much of the opponents he's up against interesting for worthwhile, however I've seen a suggestion that since he's also in a sense not as "pent up" as Sukuna was while he was in Yuji's body and doesn't really have a timer like he used to. He has no reason to act like a deranged, destructive, psychopath god constantly to, in a sense, vent his frustrations of his current situation.

10:08 Via the deaths of everyone but Yuji or Megumi. Curses become stronger after death so having say Yuji inherent the curses of everyone who's past on is good reason for him to surpass Gojo. There's also the idea of Megumi killing himself only to come back as a stronger curse with a ten shadows design. He could be the Chimer of the entire technique!

while the core argument of Sukuna's fight would be more interesting if he used his head then just tanking hits, I feel I'd have to disagree with a lot of the rest. Sukuna being this big a threat is great for the final fight & him being nerf'd due to his successive fights show that each battle had an impact. Also the skip could have been dealt with better, but I think the students not being at Gojo's level quite yet shows how strong Gojo truly was & how much farther the students still need to go. This fight still highlights their potential to get there. Anyway allow me to offer an alternative method. Todo at one point mentioned they hid certain plans from Yuji to avoid Sukuna learning anything even though that didn't happen. But what if it had. What if Sukuna developed his own counter plans during the time skip & did his own prep work. This way the surprised appearances of Todo & Yuta in Gojo's body are more justified & so would every other plan falling apart before hand.

I think the only time I felt Sukuna was actually working hard was with Maki and that time with Yuuji and Ino just because he was outsmarted and it was things he wasnt expecting to calculated before hand. But I definitely agree Sukuna "isnt trying" and its boring. Here we have the crew taking him seriously and it feels very one sided, thats bad. Gege is seriously speed blitzing to end JJK on a schedule instead of taking his time at his own fast paced way.

Hmm this is something I both do and don’t agree with. I’m kinda in a middle ground. I love the idea of Sukuna getting weaker over time cause of the cast’s contributions but I feel more reactions need to be shown cause of their strength. It should be both cause Sukuna is getting weaker and the cast are getting stronger
@Allons-Y-043 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree tbh... my problem is that Gege doesn't really give any way for us to gauge the progress they are making or how damaged Sukuna is. Having a way of showing exactly how much damage Yuji is doing would be good, a bit like how Mahito said what percentages their souls were on
@ineedalife63 ай бұрын
Problem is that Sukuna is simply out of options. His main plan after defeating Gojo was to just get it over with and kill the rest of the cast in a quick go. However he expected to recover his CE Output for that but never got a chance to do so. Yuta and Yuji managed to take away even more of his options, leaving him with weak CT attacks and bare h2h combat skills as only remaining options. Sukuna excels at a battlefield with opportunities and chances to improvise but now he has no way of improvising anymore and can only hope to tank everything and face his enemies straight on. Him getting hit by Gojo’s Unlimited Void was not a part of his plan, effectively ruining the later battles. He gambled for Mahoraga to adapt but took a hit of UV as unwilling exchange. If he had not bet on Mahoraga during the domain clashes, he wouldn’t have lost the clash and killed Gojo with a domain. Also could be blamed on Gege’s lazy writing for Sukuna as of right now but that’s my explanation for your main point.
