I’m very new to sonic and got into it through videos about Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), and I really appreciate it when people take it seriously, because despite everything, I find the story concepts and the dynamic of Black Doom being Shadow’s abusive father to be genuinely compelling. It’s almost like a messy, E10+ Metal Gear Solid 2 in a way. Nowhere near as well executed or relevant to the real world, of course, but Shadow in this game really reminds me of Raiden in MGS2. I’d like to think that there are kids who played that final story and felt some kind of catharsis watching this young, confused, traumatized, used, weaponized, dehumanized little hedgehog see their dad’s manipulation for what it is, choose to do the right thing, and try to move beyond their pain. If this game can make me feel something and get me interested in sonic for the first time as an adult then I think that means something. Even if they write it off as a mistake now, a lot of people at SEGA put genuine effort and passion into this game. It’s a story, it’s art, of course it has value! And I think you’re right that there is a silent majority of people who find this game charming or nostalgic or kickass or just straight up good. I love this little hedgehog with a gun and will almost certainly learn how to emulate so I can play it for myself. Great video!

I was in 8th grade when Shadow came out, and I loved it. I played through it probably 12 times before finding out how to get the last story, and it was easily my favorite 3d Sonic game. Years later I saw everyone bashing the game all over the internet and it made me question if I had just been a stupid kid and didn't realize how bad it was, so I shelled out the cash for a Gamecube copy and did the 10 playthroughs with a friend who had never touched the game watching. Not only did I love it, but my friend (Who is a massive Sonic fanboy but always avoided Shadow because of the stigma around it) couldn't believe how good the game actually was. Shadow is easily still my favorute 3d Sonic, and it makes me so happy to see people coming around on it in recent years.

I feel so validated right now dude you have no idea. Loved this game as a teen, didn't search for any reviews so I didn't know people didn't like this game back then. Having played the adventures game for the first time lately, I can confidently say Shadow 05 is my favorite of that era. Now to 100% it cause holy shit 8 ending out of 10 was waaaay to close, damn you bugged soldier in The Doom.

Shadow the Hedgehog is raw. It's got the right ingredients, but it didn't spend enough time in the oven. You can see Sega struggling to adapt to growing needs of developers from SA1 through S06. SA2 is already feeling the strain of deadlines that are too tight, it's clearly slipping in Heroes and by the time we get to Shadow it's so clear these games are undercooked, especially when you compare them to similar Mario titles. You can feel the two years of advancing technology when you compare SA1 to SM64. You can really feel like SA2 and SMS are on similar levels of quality. Recent releases have not done enough to prevent the bugs that inevitably slip in when you port a port of a port, however you can still buy SA1&2, Nintendo would literally rather go bankrupt than let people freely play SMS or SM64 again. Then you get to heroes and here's the wild thing. While Heroes, Shadow, and 06 showed a consistent decline in the quality standard that Sonic was held to, mainline Mario was nowhere to be seen! RPG Mario got plenty of games, sports mario was everywhere, but nintendo took 6 dang years to deliver a brand new Mario for their new console. In the time it took for Sega to make 3 mediocre-at-best sonic games, Nintendo made the BEST Mario game.

I feel like I was the only kid who wanted shadow to be more violent 😂 I was 7 when this game came out. My favourite games were Conkers Bad Fur Day and GTA: San Andreas. I still loved the sonic games and cartoons. But I definitely wanted there to be more violence. So when it came out, I was so excited! I when I played it, I was actually surprised how kid friendly it was. There was no blood, and the humans you shot never actually died. I was like "oh 😒 well I guess it is still a "sonic" game. Why did I get my hopes up thinking it would more mature" and continued to play it and honestly enjoyed it for what it was

Sonic Generations is my favorite Sonic game! (I play Sonic games for the gameplay.) However, i respect your opinion (I have never played the Shadow the Hedgehog game)

To this day I hate the “loud minority” in the sonic fanbase because of them they ruined goated characters because sega wanted to appeal to them instead of the true fans. That’s why iam thankful when they get it right like in shadow gens or in the sonic movie 3 with shadows character
