Two people live together and refer to each other as husband/wife to everyone they interact with and without submitting a marriage registration form to the local city government. Also dissolving a common-law marriage is just like a standard divorce. As far as controversial goes I haven't been in Japan since 2015, but if I had to take a guess it would be how uncommon it is to choose such a path. Japanese people are very traditionalist in a large number of things and marriage being one of them. It seems to be a fairly new concept for most Japanese people to come to terms with in their country. That is why I added the ending for Nobita to make any corrections should he view the comments. When I was in Japan I never paid much attention to marriage rules as at the time it didn't matter to me. There are a few English sites on Japanese laws you can search. It is one reason why common law marriage is looked down on in Japan as well as just being viewed as a trial for their relationship. I am by no means an expert on marital laws in either country, just basing my very basic understanding of the concept on what little I pick up here and there. So take everything I've stated as a very basic understanding of that topic.

Quite different from getting a job pretty much anywhere else. First, being a porn actor is actually not exactly what you want on your resume (*Much* more than in the Americas, actually). To be called for an interview after your 25's or so you need to have a recommendation from your previous job, and *preferably* have been there for more than 10 years to be seen as someone deserving of trust (not exaggerating). Japanese see quitting early as a "too hasty person" who could abandon a position outta nowhere and usually ignore such individuals altogether. Considering the fact that it seems that he has been a porn actor for a while now, not only he probably will be utterly ignored at most job opportunities in other areas, he'll have a safe position within the porn industry only later on. Being a Japanese herself (and a quite well educated one at that) I am sure she was quite aware that his job niche won't change. But she choose that, and when reality came (because thinking about something is different than living it) she decided to toughen herself and try to change her mindset about it. It's different to think "Ah it would be nice to think/react differently about something" and actually changing your mind and your emotional reactions to it. Even if logic dictates something in your head, your brain is used to react emotionally in a certain way even if you tell yourself you shouldn't be sad/happy about something that doesn't make sense to you logically/morally, but you are. I am glad she was strong enough to walk the road she picked for herself and that they are both happy now.

A more generally acceptable job? With his resume? He could try to make the switch from actor to producer or do work on the other side of the camera but since he's made a name for himself as actor such a change would mean an imminent drop in finances and an uncertain future.
