Don, after many years in my career I had to get back into the job market. My resume seemed to always be rejected and if I did get a phone interview it never went any further. After finding your channel I revised my resume, used your interview tips and now I have 2 job offers. If anyone takes time to read these comments, I can assure you that these tips work and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you Don!

for those wanting to shoot straight to the answer, here's what Don had to say.."So, why do you want to work here?” “Well, I want to work here because I really admire the type of company that you are” and being specific about why you admire them. “And I went to school for business, and this type of position is exactly in alignment with what I'm trying to achieve; where my career is going. And so, not only are you guys looking for a business analyst, I've studied business and I think I am a great entry-level candidate for this position because of the types of things that I've been doing in college and my career path and where I want to be going."

This is very good advice. My dad taught me in the 1980s when he owned his own company and I was a teenager that in job interviews your job is to translate your skills into a “value”. He showed me how to take successes or positive qualities in turn that into a positive value for a company. I have always remembered that And always try and bring that up in job interviews. I am 56 now and have only been on two interviews in my life where and I did not receive an offer for the job

Thank you, Don. My question is how to not sound too arrogant by asking this question? A consultant said to me some weeks ago: "they do not want to hire the best of the best, you do not have to excel; you have only to show that you know the job."

Some candidates may have introvert tendencies due to different cultures, very well suited for certain domain, but may not be visible in standard line of questioning. A skilled hiring manager can create a friendly environment to smell test that talent. Enjoyed the video.

I had this very question at the end of my interview for Boeing. I stated that, after proving my experiences with the given role, culture is very important to me. I like to come to work and get the iob done and exceed your expectation; but most importantly, i like to come to work and have fun. We spend 8 to 10 hours a day at work and when i come to work i like to get the iob done but have fun in the process.

Research the position and what the requirements are to fill that position. Pick certain keys points about that position and use those key points that relate to you and your background, and how you can contribute and show value to the company. You are highly motivated to give the company a return on their investment into you, if you were to be hired. That’s how you can show value in an interview question like that.

Man, I really wish I watched this video before a phone interview/screening today. I just rarely get this question, but usually I do write down how I would respond for each company so I know how to answer - but for this one, I forgot. And it was just an initial screening, so I guess didn't think it wouldn't come up. But she did ask towards the end (but she never asked "tell me about yourself") so I basically used bits and pieces of my "tell me about yourself" response along with other value I can bring to the company, along with my long term goals to concoct an answer. I use a "tell me about yourself" format based on Don's tips as well as another resource on here and it basically includes showing what YOU can provide to THEM. That is a big thing I've learned from many of these interview videos - what can you bring to the table? I really hope I didn't screw that one up but I am going to keep binging these videos for sure! This one is just as top notch as all the rest! Thanks Don!

I'm actually retired.. well technically I'm "between retirements" now and never had much problem landing jobs. I'd have to say I agree with what Don is saying. I probably would have been even more efficient if I had listened to him first. Sitting on the other side of the interview process.. nothing worse than when someone doesn't give a distinctive answer to these sorts of questions, because I like people in general and would like to hire anyone who applies but we can't. Make the decision easy for the employer in a good way rather than easy in a bad way.

Dear Don, an important question: what about WHO the interviewer IS? In a big company the interviewer will most likely be the head of a Dept., not the president who really cares. Especially when it comes to the IT Dept., the president of whatever company would't do the interview, even if they wanted to. A STUNNING EXAMPLE: many years ago, I applied as a lawyer for the legal Dept. of a Bank and the one who interviewed me (I suppose he was obliged to do it because my CV was excellent) never asked anything, he talked with me about my CV for 15 minutes saying all the time "wow, how did you manage to do this and that", and then he said "sorry, you will NEVER work here". When I asked why not, he said "are you kidding me? You have way too many degrees and credentials, way more than mine, in 3 years you will end up having MY job, and I don't intend to lose it"... I was a theat to HIS JOB. What does one do THEN?

in a given day we apply to N number of vacancies, so its not possible to remember all the JD's the role entails for in order to give a reply as to why we are a candidate they need to select? Secondly, is it ok to ask them what the role calls for during the interview in order to give an apt response? Pls note that most interviews don't happen overnight....the company takes time to sort out CV's then only start the procedure for shortlisting CV's and then calling candidates for interviews.

I think this question is rude. It urges the person to become overly competitive, selfish and aggressive. This is a question the interviewer should ask themselves and not the candidate. If they are not in position to discern the qualities of the candidate, how will statements by the candidate on themselves offer any kind of objective additional information? The question implies that "we have no reason to hire you so give us one and we may be convinced if you do your best". Its inhumane too put that much pressure on someone. I think we need to respect the candidate. Unless this is a salesman position and they want to test your selling capabilities, selling something does not reflect nor guarantee quality. And an interviewer that doesn't know that, lacks common sense. Selling is a kind of manipulation. Narcissists are great at lying and manipulating. So this question is both rude and silly. In the end, every person is unique and different. We should not force people to complete on the basis of uniqueness. All these questions that the video assumes are implied with "Why should we hire you" can be asked directly and one can get that information much differently than asking "why should we hire you". The question is rude and at its best lazy. I would definitely confront them and see how they deal with pressure. Working for someone should be an organic and pleasant relationship. If you have to walk on eggshells in the office that's a toxic relation.

@@DonGeorgevich Thank you, Don, for your time and response. My comment was a kind of funny, rhetoric question to myself;). I'm more concerned about, what salary strategy should I choose? HR-managers see me as a junior, rookie, recently graduated, but with +10years of working experience. There is a kind of mental contradiction.
