Silence between two old close friends is never an embarrassment. Sitting outside, having a drink, or just walking together needs no forced conversion. Being in each others company is sometimes all you both need. Unspoken understanding of each others worth.

Silence is underrated in my opinion. I used it as a weapon when someone would verbally abuse me or intentionally try to hurt me. I later understood how powerful I was during those moments. Because why waste energy on something that craves for attention and acknowledgement through one's reaction towards an action

@@femboiuwu I am you. At least I WAS you. I realized it later that many ppl whether they are on internet/social media OR in real life display aggression through wordplay and that’s where guys like us fall in trap. Sometimes even if it hurts our feelings or hurt us personally. Being silent and not acknowledging their existence right there is the best we can do overtake this trap. Practice this with members at home(when they hurt you) take it to school/office and then slowely and gradually to your entire life. FAIR WARNING: if things are reaching to a point where it’s “dangerous” You must give a reaction. It should be calm collected and quick. Give your attention to those who deserve it and need it. Sorry for the long type :-)

One of the reasons I married my husband was that we can feel totally comfortable by being together but not talking. We can sometimes sit in a car for hours and none of us utters a word and the fact that both of us are comfortable with that is one of the cornerstones of our 15+ years relationship. I need my solitude and so does he. People who feel the need to fill out every bit of silence with their voice, make me incredibly tired and drain my energy. Silence is indeed golden.

That is beautiful and I think have learnt a new lesson I used to hang out with a friend, I tried my best to talk with her-never leaving a silent moment. I realize that maybe that wasn't the perfect approach, maybe I wasn't giving her space, maybe it's just better that I hang out with her without needing to talk all the time. After all, she has other friends, she's always active, maybe I should just give her the moment to slow down. Either way, have a beautiful day/night, I hope your relationship lasts another 15+ years. 😊

As I read everyone praising Silence, I would just add one thing. Be careful with it. Silence is a double-edge sword. It is a weapon, but also a prison. There is a time for everything, and silence isn't always the best option. I am capable of being one of the most silent person in a group, principally listening and observing around. And afterwards, I feel a bit evasive, absent. What is the point of my presence if I am just here to listen ? And when I try to speak, it is not the same. I feel better in the silence. Which is bothering me. There is a time for everything, and parsimony is the best ally you can have. Know when to act, know when to remain silent. But do not act in only one way.

Theres a difference between silence out of discomfort and silence out of necessity. You just have to work on your self concept and confidence. Being silent out of necessity is comfort in your own silence and knowing when you add to the convo your words are important. I'm usually in my own world and people think im cool and mysterious lol. How you percieve yourself matters most, and know your presence is worthy enough despite not adding to the convo.

this. the video seems to address normal people with a measure of influence in typical social parlours. venues where people take you seriously and would respect you more if you left certain things unsaid. the advice is actually harmful if you don't heed situational context as there are times where you definitely need to speak up and make yourself (or someone you care about) heard

@@Vivianiubu I completely agree with you, that a lot of this comes from the confidence you have in yourself. But, and I think you know this as much as I do, a lot of people struggles in self confidence. And finding confort in the silence may not be the best solution for it, as it feels like "I stay in my confortable inner place". The fact that people may not see the difference between the 2 silences you talked about is why I wanted to point this. It may look nice and wise to stay silent. But even the wisest has to speak at one point. And I think I completely went outside of your comment ahem...

"Tacet" on sheet music indicates silence. ❤ Similar to pausing for emphasis in mid-sentence or after a statement, a silent pause in music gives the mind a moment to process and reflect before continuing into the next thought. I think of the song "An Innocent Man" by Billy Joel -- there is a dramatic although brief silence in the music. It gets your attention. Other highly talented singers and songwriters effectively use a brief silence in some of their songs. I believe it adds more emotional richness than filling the whole piece with instruments and vocals.

Silence can sometimes be inhibiting. For people who observe, they usually remove themselves from a situation to see it from many angles which leaves them not experiencing life. Lack of experience can cause a loss of personality or identity. When you stay quiet for too long you forget what to say, when to say it, or even how to say things which can also impact you communication and interpersonal relationships.

Silence definitely has its place in this world where all people is talk. I use it in instances where I'm not sure about someone's intent and leave them to fill the gap with what they're thinking. Keep quiet long enough at the right time and people will tell on themselves - work, relationships, you name it.

Bad idea to keep silent when someone is verbally abusing you, yes you may embarass them at first but they might escalate. First you should keep at least the person two arms length away from you and second you should try to leave the place. Some people will consider your silence as a sign that they can dominate you or you being submissive or even that you are not taking them seriously and proceed to escalate and slap or punch you. These Narcissistic predators when they see you silent will equate it to a freeze response and failing to intimidate you verbally, will recourse to violence. Telling them to stay away and set boundaries as you leave the place is the best way. Look them in the eye.

often times I recently learned I love silence. I go to view spots, and take in the world. When I mention to other people to sit in silence for a while, they don't understand. When I go to a silent place, I tend to listen to the natural life around me. I love hearing the wind blow through the air. It makes me realize that life is more to it than just trying to better myself. The point of life is to enjoy every single moment we have, and when I'm at my silence spot, that's exactly what I love to do. I take in the moment, and enjoy it.

It’s not something that needs to be endured like soaking in ice water but is rather a gift of the void. A moment of nothingness. It’s beautiful and powerful. Sometimes I feel like people just experience being afraid of death, because silence reminds them that there is no lively sound, i.e. silence is like a state of not experiencing life, hence fear arises. At the same time, there is something similar to it - being afraid of darkness. No light arises fear, no sound arises fear and uneasiness. There is something similar in all these two things. Ah, also forgot about lack of social activity. Fear of missing out. See? Three similar things have something in common. Illusion that is interpreted as lack of life flowing.

While, unlike the violent reaction, we only confirm that they are right and that the break-up was the right decision and sometimes we even give them a reason to hate us. Having dealt with depression and anxiety it was beyond benefical to turn off all of the noise pollution (city noise, other people's opinions and expectations, you name it). this reminds me of the Man from Tibetan Buddhist Temple when he protested by lighting himself on fire, the dedication and spirituality that he achieved to endure that kind of pain is undescribable

I have regularly done float tank/sensory deprivation tank sessions over the last year. The silence and solitude to explore any kind of thought or wandering musing without outside interruption is a highly underrated experience.

My husband loves arguments. I've been using the technique of not replying to what he says that I disagree. After my moment of silent reaction, he feels uneasy and tries to come to a middle ground, as if I had said something he could agree on. If I still say nothing, he comes to the point when he himself changes sides and totally agrees with me. And I hadn't said a word lol

When asked what the greatest note ever played is? Beethoven (I believe) said “ the pause, rest 0️⃣, no note!” Silence. It’s not what goes in a man’s mouth that does him any harm. It is what comes out that cause harm. Sometimes we need to be silent. However in the face of injustice or tyranny we need to speak up.

This reminds me very much of Eckhart Tolle's teachings. Highly recommend - easily found on KZbin. Excellent upload Einzelganger.

I noticed that in American society, people always say I’m too quiet, but when I live in Europe it’s quite normal and no one comments on my quietness. Americans try to push people to be extroverts and have a difficult time understanding introverts. Onetime this woman told to to smile in a photo lol I thought to myself I’m not going to smile unless I feel like it! 🤦🏽‍♀️ I make sure that I stay true to myself and authentic as possible

I love silence. This world is loud. Nonstop noises and flashing lights. I cannot be out in it for long. It’s exhausting.

i had a friend who never talked when i introduced him to another friend, he just listened. Instead of appearing sage and mysterious I thought he looked like a boring, timid guy with no self confidence, opposite of what he thought.
