The power of silence is versatile. Silence can transcend speech, speak without words, and complement where verbal language is lacking. And keeping silent also has advantages in terms of creativity, mental health, spiritual and religious practice, achieving the upper hand in negotiations, and even as a way to intimidate. This video explores the power of silence, unfolding four priceless benefits of being silent.

Silence between two old close friends is never an embarrassment. Sitting outside, having a drink, or just walking together needs no forced conversion. Being in each others company is sometimes all you both need. Unspoken understanding of each others worth.

Silence is underrated in my opinion. I used it as a weapon when someone would verbally abuse me or intentionally try to hurt me. I later understood how powerful I was during those moments. Because why waste energy on something that craves for attention and acknowledgement through one's reaction towards an action

@@femboiuwu I am you. At least I WAS you. I realized it later that many ppl whether they are on internet/social media OR in real life display aggression through wordplay and that’s where guys like us fall in trap. Sometimes even if it hurts our feelings or hurt us personally. Being silent and not acknowledging their existence right there is the best we can do overtake this trap. Practice this with members at home(when they hurt you) take it to school/office and then slowely and gradually to your entire life. FAIR WARNING: if things are reaching to a point where it’s “dangerous” You must give a reaction. It should be calm collected and quick. Give your attention to those who deserve it and need it. One of the reasons I married my husband was that we can feel totally comfortable by being together but not talking. We can sometimes sit in a car for hours and none of us utters a word and the fact that both of us are comfortable with that is one of the cornerstones of our 15+ years relationship. I need my solitude and so does he. People who feel the need to fill out every bit of silence with their voice, make me incredibly tired and drain my energy. Silence is indeed golden.

That is beautiful and I think have learnt a new lesson I used to hang out with a friend, I tried my best to talk with her-never leaving a silent moment. I realize that maybe that wasn't the perfect approach, maybe I wasn't giving her space, maybe it's just better that I hang out with her without needing to talk all the time. After all, she has other friends, she's always active, maybe I should just give her the moment to slow down. Either way, have a beautiful day/night, I hope your relationship lasts another 15+ years. 😊

A friend told me, being silence is better then to talk, cause in the end humans speak by their actions. He said that talking is just to create an exposure that u are present, but it could be a double edge sword if people don't see u as what they expected u to be. So better be silent, let yourself be pure from what people expected u to be, and let your action says to them about whom u really are.

As I read everyone praising Silence, I would just add one thing. Be careful with it. Silence is a double-edge sword. It is a weapon, but also a prison. There is a time for everything, and silence isn't always the best option. I am capable of being one of the most silent person in a group, principally listening and observing around. And afterwards, I feel a bit evasive, absent. What is the point of my presence if I am just here to listen ? And when I try to speak, it is not the same. I feel better in the silence. Which is bothering me. There is a time for everything, and parsimony is the best ally you can have. Know when to act, know when to remain silent. But do not act in only one way.

Theres a difference between silence out of discomfort and silence out of necessity. You just have to work on your self concept and confidence. Being silent out of necessity is comfort in your own silence and knowing when you add to the convo your words are important. I'm usually in my own world and people think im cool and mysterious lol. How you percieve yourself matters most, and know your presence is worthy enough despite not adding to the convo.

this. the video seems to address normal people with a measure of influence in typical social parlours. venues where people take you seriously and would respect you more if you left certain things unsaid. the advice is actually harmful if you don't heed situational context as there are times where you definitely need to speak up and make yourself (or someone you care about) heard

@@Vivianiubu I completely agree with you, that a lot of this comes from the confidence you have in yourself. But, and I think you know this as much as I do, a lot of people struggles in self confidence. And finding confort in the silence may not be the best solution for it, as it feels like "I stay in my confortable inner place". The fact that people may not see the difference between the 2 silences you talked about is why I wanted to point this. It may look nice and wise to stay silent. "Tacet" on sheet music indicates silence. ❤ Similar to pausing for emphasis in mid-sentence or after a statement, a silent pause in music gives the mind a moment to process and reflect before continuing into the next thought. I think of the song "An Innocent Man" by Billy Joel -- there is a dramatic although brief silence in the music. It gets your attention. Other highly talented singers and songwriters effectively use a brief silence in some of their songs. I believe it adds more emotional richness than filling the whole piece with instruments and vocals.

Bad idea to keep silent when someone is verbally abusing you, yes you may embarass them at first but they might escalate. First you should keep at least the person two arms length away from you and second you should try to leave the place. Some people will consider your silence as a sign that they can dominate you or you being submissive or even that you are not taking them seriously and proceed to escalate and slap or punch you. These Narcissistic predators when they see you silent will equate it to a freeze response and failing to intimidate you verbally, will recourse to violence. Telling them to stay away and set boundaries as you leave the place is the best way. Look them in the eye.

When I go to a silent place, I tend to listen to the natural life around me. I love hearing the wind blow through the air. It makes me realize that life is more to it than just trying to better myself. The point of life is to enjoy every single moment we have, and when I'm at my silence spot, that's exactly what I love to do. I take in the moment, and enjoy it.

When you remain a slient in such situations, you make that person think: "why isn't he/she upset", "does he/she care at all", "is this maybe my fault" ... While, unlike the violent reaction, we only confirm that they are right and that the break-up was the right decision and sometimes we even give them a reason to hate us. Sometimes I feel like people just experience being afraid of death, because silence reminds them that there is no lively sound, i.e. silence is like a state of not experiencing life, hence fear arises. At the same time, there is something similar to it - being afraid of darkness. No light arises fear, no sound arises fear and uneasiness. There is something similar in all these two things. Ah, also forgot about lack of social activity. Fear of missing out. See? Three similar things have something in common. Illusion that is interpreted as lack of life flowing.

I tend to fill my life with noise just to take the edge off of the insufferable silence. This video really helped me change my perspective on silence. It’s not something that needs to be endured like soaking in ice water but is rather a gift of the void. A moment of nothingness. It’s beautiful and powerful. I loved how you described silence at the end of the video “elusive yet accessible to all.” I’m going to try to reaclimate myself to being in silence in the future. You don’t know how helpful this was! ❤️

I have complex PTSD and found the pandemic to be a God send!!! Thankful to be away from very toxic people and even the ones I have loved the most that tried to harm me. I just slowly get more alone and I’m happy here without anyone. 🙏❤️. I was fearful of silence and couldn’t not relax in my old house but it’s because of the reminder of the abuse.

I think silence gives us the idea that in our story ( the story can be pretty bad or just anything ) but silence gives us the idea that it's ours, and so Is the choice of choosing people to get into our serenity, be a part of this or can be ignored and to be done with. So yeah powerful

Music, going for a walk, and/or exercise DOES NOT QUITE THE MIND! It relaxes it. If you want your mind to be quite you must rid yourself of WANTS, NEEDS and DESIRES. Wants needs and desires motivate the mind to work. Any truth one gets will be from the HEART! The mind is there to trick you into forgetting your HEART! If you want to use your mind CORRECTLY, you must synchronize it with your heart and then your motivation transforms to LOVE! Love will cause your mind to SOLVE PROBLEMS as OPPOSED to causing them! ~Apollo~

This is one of my favorite videos on something I am very passionate about. I love meditating because the silence I feel during it helps me to focus inward and more clearly. Once I begin to move my thinking outward I find that great thinking occurs. Your video really helped to explain this! Thanks very much for sharing.

I was really expecting a longer (and awkward) silence before your usual "Thank you for watching" this time! Thank you for the awesome content!

I’m a very quiet person. People would think I’m stuck up. It’s like damn it I do damn it I don’t. Can’t please everyone. I get it from my father he’s so quiet and just laugh a lot.

If you really want to experience a deeper connection with the self, try solo camping (Airbnb has plenty of options). I've been a city kid all my life but when I decided to venture out into the nature and spend that time by myself, with myself - it changed my life for the better. Having dealt with depression and anxiety it was beyond benefical to turn off all of the noise pollution (city noise, other people's opinions and expectations, you name it). It gives one the ability to tune back to their own radio station (their own ideals and expectations). As for nature, you'll be amazed at how everything comes together - it was truly an eye opening experience. Thank you for the video! It confirmed a lot of the things I came to understand when I went on my first adventure!

One thing that I really appreciate about this channel and creator is that they don't seem to come to this with a lot of dogma. There is a very distinctive synthesis in each video of many different sources of knowledge that create a meaningful and evenly viewed picture of whatever topic is addressed by the video. I feel I am responsible for my own path I take, but this channel has definitely been a catalyst for psychological growth in my own life. I am very grateful for these videos

I speak a lot less than i used to do in the past, im more habituated now listening to what people haves to say. And from my experience i have 2 things to bring out, the first one is that its amazing to realize the amazing things people haves to say about you if you just learn to listen. And the second one is that the people that surrounds you builds you, this haves a lot of "lore" behind, but just sit a full day and listen to your friends without barely speaking to them and then you may reconsiderate if you should be friendds(this works with everything more than friends too, just an example)

This video has something different in it and I don’t know what. Later, the ending with silence and just nature hit me, somehow made my eyes water a bit. Truly outstanding way to present a video and information about silence. Thank you for all of your videos!

10:15 the one study you showed us is a life-changing one. Whenever I feel I'm just sitting here doing nothing, i found music to calm my mind, but i was wrong! Being in a silence worth more than listening to a music!

I keep my mount shut to prevent making any enemies yet I find my self still making more enemies. I find my self being hated for no reason at all even though I don’t say anything at all. It’s like out of my control to not make people dislike me but I realize that no matter what I do there anyway gonna be someone who doesn’t like you.
