I also think they should be in pairs, but I understand how hard it can be to get 2 rabbits bonded. I have a lot of experience and I still think it's hard, I can't imagine for an inexperienced owner. I will never guilt trip someone for just having 1 rabbit.
@Myladyinred9994 жыл бұрын
Maybe people just should not get a single rabbit in the first place? The easiest thing is to only get at least two already bonded rabbits, maybe siblings for example. Sure, you can never make 100% sure that no rabbit will ever end up alone but so many people are not even trying in the first place ... And I will always gladly accept the challenges and fears of bonding rabbits if my rabbit's life-long happiness depends on it
@myrialightseeker1934 жыл бұрын
@@Myladyinred999 Well, I don't think it's about people getting just one rabbit, it's mainly the shelters having a lot more single rabbits than duo and we don't do bunny dating here. So asking someone with no experience to just grab 2 random rabbit and put them together because you believe that's the only solution, is basically asking for a very expensive vet trip down the road. It's not about fear of bonding or a challenge, it's about possibly killing your pet if you don't do it right. Be responsible about it.

I agree the best option is that rabbits are sold in bonded pairs. However especially in the US, there is not many rabbit specialized rescues who even understand how to bond rabbits and do that. The few that are really experienced with rabbits, usually they don’t want to bond their rabbits since majority of people want a single bunny and the bonded pairs hardly get adopted out. I do agree getting 2 from the start is the best and easiest option. I hope it becomes more normal here. A while back, it was okay to have single guinea pigs and people even thought males should live alone for their safety. As we’ve learned more, now keeping any guinea pig alone is cruel. I hope something similar can happen with rabbits

Do you think that if you have two bonded bunnies, they will be less social with their owner since they have each other? Or can they still be affectionate if shown proper care and love? I’m worried that if I adopt two bunnies they won’t care as much for me and I’d really want them too since they’d be my fanily

A couple months ago I bought a rabbit. Since it was getting close to Christmas, I named her Holly. She was in a cage with another rabbit, and I assume they were siblings, but when they took her out of the cage, the other rabbit hopped to the door and looked at us like hey where are you taking my friend? It about broke my heart and I can’t stop thinking about it. And I didn’t get her at the time because then, I didn’t know how to sex rabbits, and they would not tell me what sex they were, which blew my mind. Apparently at one time a customer bought two rabbits and the employee sexed them wrong and they ended up having babies so now that’s store policy. And I thought that the rabbits were babies because they weren’t very big and the label on their cage, said Flemish and I thought they meant Flemish giants, but Holly has not gotten any bigger and she’s not pregnant so anyway. I know that’s a long story but I would’ve bought that other rabbit if I’d known, what was the situation . So I’ve been thinking about going back and getting that other rabbit if it’s still there. I guess I’ll try it because I do have another cage. I could keep them separated and I’ve learned that they can be spayed/neutered (I had been told that surgery is risky for rabbits but all the bunny sources recommend it.)

I have 1 bun and spend a ton of time with him. The hostess of this video may have better finances than you or live with family or a bf who can share in the responsinilities. Also: I have a bunny channel and am a single bunny owner and am a bit older than these two Yyoutubers. KZbinrs are nOT vets; we are only bunny owners and all people have opinions. The most obvious thongs to consider when owning a bun to me are: 1) how much time u r willing to spend with your bun; 2) can you afford it; 3) are you in it for the long haul; 4) how are you with learning? Whether to get another is an important ? but IMHO make up your own mind. The hostless of this video is not an expert ie veterinarian. She is merely a bun owner with a channel.

I'm currently looking for a way to tell my mother we should get a second rabbit, but she turns down the "Offer" every time, even though I can clearly see how lonely my rabbit is right now. I think one of the reasons she keeps saying no, is because we used to have another rabbit, but we only tried bonding them for what.. 3 days? And then my mother was too impatient and sent him over to a friend of hers. He died last year, and I fear it was because of her child. Another reason for this is definetly the amount of money we already spend on one rabbit a month. I normally sing in a choir, and get payed around 1-2000 dkk every 6 months. But currently I have no way to get the money needed (corona..), and am looking for a job for teens, which I don't know if she will let me attend either. I am also quite afraid that my rabbit is depressed, as he's showing quite a few symptoms, and today wasn't even interested in his daily apple slice (GI stasis?). I really want to treat it or see what's wrong, but my mother won't pay for the vet bills, and I currently have no more money for that, as I just brought ton of hay and toys for my bunny. Help?
