It's just doesn't roll well on the tongue, doesn't have sound to it. One syllabe calls aren't really catchy. I'm sure that Elon consulted any kind of linguist before the name change and took the feedback to his jeart though.

It's unfortunate that the basic story here is that an app that works well and appeals to users with its functions needs to change because it doesn't harvest enough data and screw people over. The fact that it does the job well just isn't enough.

This paradox reminds me of Boston Legal. It never had the ratings of Friends but its demographic was older and way richer which kept it on the air for five seasons since luxury branda would concentrate their ads around its time slot

It’s still very popular with people under 25, but people over 25 have just abandoned it because other apps serve similar functions while having more substance and they just grew up. I was a DAU on Snap until I was around 22, then I just got bored of it

The issue with Snapchat is the scrolling addiction is nowhere as “engaging” as instagram or tiktok I prefer how snapchat is because I use social media for its intended purpose, to talk to people lmao Not scrolling and wasting my time like on tiktok , instagram or twitter

America is where the money's at though. And it's generally reflected in the rates advertisers pay for clicks/ads shown. A click from Latvia would give you about 10% of what one from the US would. ~30% for Canada or Germany. Facebook for example gets almost half of its revenue from the US and Canada. Despite users from there making up less than 1/10 of their total user base. Being popular in the US is a massive boon when it comes to revenue per customer.

As an advertiser selling physical products, Snapchat ads don’t convert as well as other platforms like TikTok or meta. They need to invest more in their advertising platform

Have you been a Snapchat user? The algorithm driven content is blatant and easy enough to avoid. If I only ever watch the thing my friend sent and then just close the app when it rolls over to viral brain rot I'll never watch an ad.

I work at a middle school/high school and Snapchat is the primary communication app for 99% of the kids. A few teachers even put up solutions to homework on there since the kids don't have emails. Snap only died for millennials.

That's a currently evolving advertisement paradox. Coke is a great example. I know various people to whom the terms "pop" or "soda" can be replaced for "coke" even if they're offering me a root beer. That kind of person might actually get less brand loyalty if they see a coke ad they dislike. This is true of Walmart as well. How many Americans don't "go to the store" they "stop by walmart"?

The real reason is what the platform is used for. It's used by teens to send selfies. Selfies that are supposed to disappear. I.E. teens sending porn of themselves to each other.

I wonder how much VC money Snap has burned through over the years. Lots of dumb money poured into that hole. I mean, I can see the appeal of it as entertainment and for building communities of like-minded folks, but apart from subscriptions, I can't see any practical way to monetize this. Facing many of the same fundamental flaws in the business model that Twitter has. It is fun, but not work paying for kinda fun.

Snapchat is big in my bubble Here’s why I personally love it: Most efficient way to interact is hidden within Snapchat I’m not a fan of spending hours chatting with people But with sc I regularly interact with hundreds of friends and random people at once without needing to type a single word So I skip the boring parts of a conversation and engage with just the interesting parts if I feel like it. After watching this video I now feel compelled to be a Snapchat+ user since it would help them
