Why Sniping in Splatoon 1 was AMAZING?

Hearing that S2 and 3 had notable input delay is a revelation I was not expecting to have, almost 7 years down the line after having not only a massive weapon crisis, but also a "god im starting to get worse at sniping" kind of crisis Completely recontextualizes a lot of the self doubt I went through during S2's lifespan, wow. ...I miss Splatoon 1 days.

My ideal Splatoon game would probably be Splatoon 3 mechanics and weapons/balance with Splatoon 1 maps and the option to use wired controllers to eliminate input lag altogether.

I don’t even think it was necessarily the damage up or lack of input delay that made it so fun. The maps were allowed for people to take cover and flank, which allowed for this risk/reward for sniping. Now the maps are flat and make everyone sitting ducks, so it’s boring. There’s also barely any sniping perches.

Absolutely. Flanks aren't just good for getting around snipers. They're also good for snipers to go flanks

I also played a bit of Liter in S1. I think I also tried it a bit in S2 but overall I don‘t do any sniping anymore at all in the newer games.

Does anyone know the reason why the input delay exists in Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3?

It's because of Switch's Bluetooth. The Wii U GamePad used its own wi-fi esque signal to connect to the console instead of Bluetooth. But that signal had a way shorter reach than Bluetooth despite having less input lag than Bluetooth when it's close to the console. It's not an issue if you use your Wii U in a gaming setup or a small apartment, but it can be an issue if your living room is big and the couch is really far from the TV where it's easy for the GamePad to lose signal or become unresponsive.
