It's not only that Ableton stock devices are better than paid plugins. You can replace any multiband or mid side plugin with too simple to be true racks.
You can download the ones I made here - bit.ly/3Jo30Cm

If you were using Bitwig you'd be questioning 3rd party plugins even more, because that DAW comes with a mid/side and a few multiband containers and you can apply modulators to everything so the devices themselves don't have to come with internal modulators. However the reality is often that the 3rd party plugins offer a better workflow, more streamlined to get a specific job done, or they have a specific sound character that is a bit beyond the parameters that are offered to the user

I don't know about the other stuff but ableton does have a midside eq.. it's one of the modes of eq8. Also I personally prefer stock plugins in ableton for the workflow because it annoys me to have to open 3rd party plugin windows when stock plugins allow you to adjust stuff straight away. kind of minor but I value that.

@@noam_mmvii the difference between a mid/side feature and split is a compromise between workflow and the ability to apply mid/side to everything. stock plugins in general have a nice workflow in ableton and bitwig where they have these short interfaces right in the chain. in a DAW like cubase you barely feel the difference between a stock and 3rd party plugin. a 3rd party plugin has to really deliver to be good in our favorite DAWs

I find your vids on music production to be the best ATM and pretty much the only one I always watch once you upload. I love how there is no nonsense wasting my time, just dive right in as well as your presentation is nice. And I should also mention, as I do this as hobby I don't want to and can't afford to spend hundreds of $$$ on plugins so seeing you doing it with stock ableton plugins is really game changer for me as you make me feel like "you can do this" instead of feeling down with "don't have money for that plugin mate? you're fked"

Happy to hear that as well as with you enjoying my videos 🙏 and yeah, you can DEFINITELY do this without spending a fortune to get 3rd party plugins. Sure, some are cool and my go-to ones but honestly I started to enjoy utilizing stock plugins to the max… and as I said in the video, they’re more than enough!

Totally agree ! I whish I would have watched these kind of video before buying all these 3rd party plug-ins I don't really use except some very specfic ones. This because I realized how much ableton stock plugins are good. Also I noticed that most often they are less processor intensive as similar 3rd party plugins. And having them straight available in the bottom docker really speeds up my workflow :) I have some regrets of having buy all these plugins. My personal advice would be 'use your stock plugins, experiment with them and also read the Ableton Live documentation'. Lastly I almost bought the new iZotope Trash... but no, this time I told myself : man you got Roar !
@Zdrewe
@Zdrewe 29 күн бұрын
As you basically said - it’s not that plugins are bad but you always end up using only a few specific ones. The rest is just stacking up. Stock devices definitely allow for less CPU usage unless you’re on a Virtual Riot level of randomization, mapping and building daw inside the DAW 😂 Speaking of Trash - man, Roar plus Convolution/Hybrid reverb can definitely replace it. If only I knew that iZotope is about drop a new version I would use this comparison in my video about Roar 😂

Love your videos man - what you say is so true! Ableton stock plugins are like Lego bricks, using them together to build all kinds of powerful stuff, as you show. I hate seeing "producers" recommending 3rd party synths and effects, claiming that "stock Ableton is shit". Anyone who claims this has no idea what they are talking about. Another benefit of using stock is the SUPER low latency and usually light CPU load compared to many VSTs/AUs. Plus, UI integration is much better! Keep up the good work! Your channel is among the best!

shaper box was always perplexing to me - it's literally doing what a dummy clip would do in ableton live, often you don't even need a plugin for this, just clip automation.
@Zdrewe
@Zdrewe 28 күн бұрын
The beauty behind ShaperBox is that it’s a one stop shop for automating effects without a need of digging inside the arrangement. Their reverb, time and noise modules are pretty damn cool as well but I agree with you - for a simple volume automation, you don’t need to toss an instance of 3rd party plugin

@@Zdrewe a video about plug-ins you should buy to elevate your sound quality apart from those stock ableton live (standard) plugins, would be awesome!! Maybe you can devide it in terms of price. If you'd spend under 100 euro, between 100 and 200, between 200 and 300,...

Great video content as usual! there's something that got me confused though. at 4:50 , shouldn't the saturator be after you have filtered the selected frequency range (for example mids)? If you put it at the beginning of the chain, you still haven't filtered the selected frequency range so wouldn't it affect the whole signal that comes in pre-filtering? what am I missing? Cheers!
@Zdrewe
@Zdrewe 29 күн бұрын
Great question! As I’ve said in the video once you apply it after the split, harmonics will leak to low and high (depends on the type of saturation ofc). And that’s not a bad thing but if your stylistic choice is to affect each band exclusively, you should put it before the split
@HumanBeingWithFeelings
@HumanBeingWithFeelings 29 күн бұрын
@@Zdrewe Hey thanks for the answer! if you do it before the filtering you are actually saturating the whole frequency range and then applying the filter,right? doesn't that mean that the harmonics created from lows and highs would spill into the mids? (specially the ones created from the lows, it's just that they are not as easily seen on the spectrum analyzer as they would mix up with the rest of mid frequencies) I think imho a way to prevent harmonics from the rest of the frequency bands to affect the mids would be saturating just the mids (after filtering with the multiband) so you don't get harmonics from other frequencies into the mids and then you can always apply a HPF and LPF to "clean" it. I''m not saying it'd sound necessarily better but actually now I'm going to have to try that myself and see what the differences are🤓. Very interesting stuff man, keep it up!

Hello! i'm new to Ableton (have been making music for years thought), so these tutorials help a lot. What i, as a beginner, would really like to see is some absolute basic stuff. For example how to map stuff in Ableton to modulate other stuff - you've shown that in this video, but i'd love to see some detailed explaination for simple stuff like that. For example, would it be possible in Ableton to have have a MIDI clip that plays a Bass sound (form Serum for example) in an instrument channel trigger some MIDI sensitive effect that's in the chain of the instrument? Let's say i want for example the dry / wet amount in Roar to follow an envelope shape, triggered every time a MIDI note is played. Just like it is in the VST (Serum for example), where i can map Env 1 to the distortion amount or so, just with Ableton stock plugins. You know, in case i like the Roar distortion more than the Serum distortion. I still lack the understanding for stuff like that and some tutorials on the basics of modulating stuff in Ableton in a more automated way (not to be confunsed with automation, of course) would be really, really helpful. :)
@Zdrewe
@Zdrewe 28 күн бұрын
Happy to hear that 🙏 For the case you’re talking about you could use a MIDI shaper (free M4L device that comes with Suite) but as you brought up Roar - just use its built in Env follower. Back to your request - I’ll try to explain more of the basics in future uploads plus I’m planning to launch 1 on 1 sessions soon 😉

Been using 90% stock plugins since 2012, I just don't see a reason to use any plugin that does the basics like EQ/compressing unless there's a really specific unique feature that I might need. Also, only using stock plugins makes it way easier to send a project file back and forth or reopen it on a new computer that doesn't have all your old plugins installed
