After literal months of being requested, Sunday has finally arrived to Honkai: Star Rail, and he brings with him a very interesting gimmick - Summons. With this in tandem with the drip marketed units in Version 3, we're gonna be discussing how summoners might be the future meta of the game.

Like personally I’d take a Sunday than a topaz bc March hunt and e6 moze are dope for what we have currently so I don’t feel the need to pull her. Not saying she isn’t great, just mentioning her potential future value from now on going into 3.0, unless we get a emanator of remembrance who gets stacks from summons specifically. @@GottaloveaxolotlsI think another thing about Topaz is that her summon automatically has a way to advance in the action order, which makes Sunday’s action advance on Topaz&Numby less useful. Of course, she still gets the damage bonus, but Sunday’s buff is less versatile on her than on Jingyuan

@ I think Topaz SubDPS would work for a summons unit(or remembrance unit depending on how remembrance works) that works similar to Acheron where Ult requires a specific amount of summon attacks. Otherwise Topaz has to compare with Harmony 5* dps increases.

This is why people want so bad for Sunday + Sparkle to be viable, even though its still cope as 50% AV is just bad and her buffs have poor uptime.

I went ahead and got E1 BS, lucked out and got her sig LC twice in the same multi, now my BS/Sampo/Luocha/RM team is cooking and clearing most of the content except final floors on and off. nobody in this DoT house is sitting down for MoC or PF, fr (Luocha and RM at E0 and no sig LC. only Black Swan's sig on her and Sampo at S1 each. no I don't own nor want Kafka and yes DoT is my favourite playstyle)

Having him do like a bounce attack on targets with a counter mark as a summon would be a nice way to differentiate Clara from Yunli if they were gonna go back and update old 5* units, tho I think the standard 5* who needs a summon rework the most is Yanqing. He does actually have a flying sword FUA and since his boss form summons the swords, making it actually a summon that maybe has 3 different bonuses it can trigger to match the 3 different hidden weakness types of his boss sword summons would be cool

@@torunsmok5890 my idea of svarog as clara's summon is 99% of the battle will be done svarog 😆 the basic attack is summon damage, the skills are summon damage, the fua are summon damage, even the damage taken is absorbed by svarog first then by clara. If svarog dies, she can't do sht and can only use her ultimate to resummon svarog.

so about summons. summons DO NOT *naturally* benefit from Follow-up DMG and neither are they considered a FUA in general, summons are considered their own thing its just so happened that all *current* summons launch a FUA. the wording on fuyuan for example specifically states "when taking action, fuyuan launches a FUA" fuyuan in itself is not considered a FUA by nature but it does use one during its action. summons don't benefit from Follow-up in any way unless their action is stated to be one, summons have the option to launch a FUA but that's it. to take it even further in the 2.7 special program when they talked about remembrance path after aventurine used his skill they showed mem (remembrance trailblazer's summon) being shielded too, and they also said that in battle memosprites (remembrance summons) will become on field teammates meaning that they would be able to be targeted and they would most likely also have their own health bar otherwise what's the point of being shielded (they might even have their own skill and ultimate) they basically function as an extra party member that copies the element (probably) and buffs of its summoner. basically summons are not a subcategory of FUA but they are their own category that is able to launch a FUA. anyways sorry for the yap i just feel like the explanation to how summons work exactly was needed to understand why they made a whole new path for summons in specific, summons have infinite potential and i'm very exited to see what are they going to cook with summons in the future especially with the remembrance path

How to know when something becomes meta is when you look at MOC and see what is the trigger condition for increasing the buff stacks. When Hoyo wants to sell summon meta, all they need to do is have the endgame buff get charged by summons taking action. The moment the buff can no longer be charged by follow-ups or toughness breaking, it’ll signal the end of the old meta. There's a reason why in HSR players don't try to get creative by deliberately playing teams that dont synergize with the buff, because it's near-impossible to do a proper clear if you leave the buff at 0 stacks throughout. Even having the proper elemental coverage isn't enough, because the DMG from the buff plays a huge factor in accounting for the ever-increasing HP pools of enemies. Basically the entire endgame combat functions like one giant Acheron/Feixiao ultimate where you need to use certain actions to charge up a big burst of DMG. And at any time, Hoyo can tweak what those "certain actions" are.

The only people who can "fix" them is themselves. Thankfully, it appears that he has actually taken a moment of introspection, so I hope so. But at least I won't have to worry about him actively stabbing me in the back in the middle of combat like some other characters, so that's a plus.

I do like the new meta, summons seem interesting and have a lot of undeveloped potential. However, I fear the new remembrance units will end up having the same confused identity that nihility units have, if not worse. The only condition for remembrance is to have a summon, but the kit itself can vary wildly. Since they do atleast have a niche that Sunday buffs, they at least won't have the same problem of lacking proper supports as the DoT team. I hope hoyo treads very carefully to not make them just another dps path, but also not the path that does everything.

Another thing to think about is the Fate collab. Maybe we just get a character by themself or we get the master and their servant. If for example we get rin as a character who then summons archer in a battle I think Sunday will shine even more here.

Maybe summons will get to input an an attack rather than it being an automatic thing on their turn queue. The event where you fought with trash cans had an interface where you would attack with the trashcans directly and it feels like that was a tech test for Summons. I could even see summons getting a basic an attack and an actual skill that costs a team skill point

since the summons from remembrance are called memosprites and they are actually a part of ur team so 5 units which is kinda bad for huohuo and fu xuan but besides the point. the devs can just make it so memosprites are not follow up.... so topaz, robin, aventurine cant help them but of course just speculation

You didn't discuss the elephant in the room with Summons which is that we have an entirely new Path dedicated to Summons coming in 3.0 in the form of Remembrance. So they very blatantly want Summons to become a larger part of the game in 3.0. But yeah, I am curious what kinds of Summons they're going for, especially since Summons were already a thing in this game before Remembrance. It feels kind of weird dedicating an entirely new Path to something that already exists in the game and Summons feel more like a team archetype than a character role, so I am very curious as to how the Remembrance path will be handled.
