Hey Sports Historians! With Nolan Ryan's 7 career no hitters, where do you place him as one of the greatest pitchers of all time? Let me know in the below!

IMHO, he's the greatest. because he achieved great feats thorughout a long period of time. Although, technically he may not be the best of all time, he's definitely in the top 10. But how can we really measure who the greatest pitcher was? Walter Johnson, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Tom Seaver, Whitey Ford, Bob Feller, Steve Carlton, Warren Spahn, along with Ryan all deserve to be in this category.

He's the most intimidating pitcher of the modem era, by far, and I don't think anyone else in the modem era has made such a magical impression on the game. He has a different pitching philosophy than most. He wanted to pitch complete games. He would rather walk many batters than give up a hit to them. He's enigmatic. I think he's the best, but I understand why many others disagree.

Really doesn't matter. I'd rather watch him pitch than just about anyone else. I know what's coming. The batter knows what's coming. Try and hit it.

Ryan's second no-hitter in 1973 came against my Tigers and even though we lost, it gave us one of our favorite Tiger memories when Norm Cash brought a table leg to the plate with two outs in the ninth. When the ump told him he couldn't use it Stormin Norman replied; "Why not? It's not like I'm going to get a hit." Ryan's career was something else. The anti-pitch count king. And RIP Norm, from the kid who used sit in the first row of the upper deck right above you. You know, the skinny kid who wore his Tiger cap, Tiger shirt, and Johnny Walker glove and never sniffed a foul ball even once? How can you not be nostalgic about baseball?

I wasn't a Tiger fan, but Norm Cash was a hoot. Tad crazy anyway. I think the ref was Ray Luciano and he busted up when he saw what Cash had in his hands. I wish the catcher had been miked up.

I read somewhere that out of all baseball players ever, 1 in 10 has went down from the express. Still checking that parameter out, but it's looking like it's holding.

WOW. Old school. Pitchers go 6 innings,80-90 pitches now a days. I miss the "old days".

I can't believe that Nolan Ryan is the oldest pitcher I have ever seen. He is without a doubt a LEGEND.

He was my childhood hero. I grew up watching him in Houston and got to see him pitch live on several occasions while playing with the Astros and the Rangers. I even got to meet him in the late 80's not long before the Astros let him go and he signed with the Rangers. He's a legend. I wish there was more footage of him on the net from his Angel days. It must have been something to see him play in the early to mid 70's.

Ryan didn't have a "four decade" career. His career touched on four decades ('60s through the '90s), but his total season count was about 26 years--an incredible total.

A great athlete and tough Irishman! Excellent mechanics, conditioning and longevity! Oh.... and he could take care of himself is someone made the mistake of charging the mound! He was on some lousy teams and undoubtedly is the greatest pitcher of all time!!! Imagine having to face Nolan Ryan on one night and then Frank Tanana the next night! WOW!

For sure, he’s definitely the greatest power pitcher ever. I’d favor career low ERA pitchers like Greg Maddux and Sandy Koufax over Ryan, but yeah he’s easily top 20 all time.

You're crazy, dude. He's basically the Babe Ruth of pitchers (I know Babe was a pitcher). The guy was touched by God with talent. Ryan, just like the Babe, had flawless movement in his windup; getting maximum torque out of his feet, ankles, legs, hips, back, shoulders, and arms. Babe Ruth was the same way. Those guys had such smooth movement they weren't relying just on their arms for power. That's how Ryan was throwing 103 mph in the 60's and 70's, before steroids and even proper health, fitness, and nutrition standards, were proven. Could you imagine Ryan or Ruth on the TB12 method? I can't

Was he the best pitcher of all time? That depends on who you ask. But who else has 5714 career strikeouts? Who else has seven career no-hitters? Who else struck out 383 batters in one season? Yes the great Sandy Koufax did 382 but he has far less no-hitters with only four compared to Ryan's 7. I've seen Ryan pitch and I don't care what anyone says Nolan Ryan threw a baseball harder than any man has ever thrown one the radar guns they used in Ryan's time were very slow and there's no doubt in my mind that Nolan Ryan was the fastest throwing pitcher ever

My man he holds most every pitching record in the MLB. Even if he has flaws and never won a cy young, his records may never be broken period. I'd take him over almost if not every pitcher because of what he could do.
