Hello everyone! This week we were supposed to go over a hair tutorial/routine, but I wanted to take advantage o the timing and discuss Emily in Paris, specifically the best character of the show: SYLVIE GRATEAU (insert french accent here 🇫🇷🥐🍾).
She's ironic, powerful and extremely well-dressed so, you know, goals...
Hope you enjoy it!

Sylvie is the icon of the cultured, intelligent and free woman, she has her experience and she totally accept herself. She’s the new Samantha Jones with french allure and elegance. Women in their 30s look at Sylvie and girls in their 20s at Emily.

I think I'm on the right track, because I'm 24 and NEVER liked Emilys outfits (of course some pieces are great! she just needs to know how to match things...) and I admire Sylvie with her looks and attitude.

"She's like, 12 years old.." LOL Emily certainly behave like one. Of course, Sylvie is the epitome of French chicness. It's funny because as someone who have lived in Paris myself, i encountered many women who were just like her, even same attitude. Of course, Sylvie is still much more glamorous in comparison to many French women in real life who are all about effortless, nonchalance way of presenting themselves (well, as u said, it's TV, gotta glam it up more). However, as someone who appreciate classic, old money way of dressing, I'm sure you must have enjoyed her fashion. LOVE Sylvie's style in comparison to that eyesore of Emily.

Yeees! The attitude is very spot on. I also love the way the actress portrays her physically (body movements, expressions). Reminds me of a lot of bosses I’ve had living in Europe 😂

I think most of us as little girls admired someone in our lives who was in their 40s or 50s , confident and wise , calm and self assured . We wanted to evolve into that person - Sylvie fills that role on this show . Emily is probably unconsciously seeking her approval in many ways .

I like your point that if someone wants reality, watch a documentary, this is a show. Some people get so worked up regarding a show, by now people should understand that television shows or films are not a reflection of reality.

Me again (I'm hoping that I'm not bothering you too much). It is about video ideas. What I would like to see (if possible) is videos about upcoming trends for spring and summer (fashion, make up, accessories, colors....). Considering your style (elegance and grace you are having), I would like your opinion which one you think are good (wearable, one you can see yourself buying) and why they are good and how you would wear them, and maybe another video about ones you absolutely do not like (that are not easy to incorporate in normal life) and the reasons why they are on your not to buy list.

I still haven't watched EIP yet because I feel it's not my cup of tea even though it's about working in the fashion industry, but I've seen some videos and read some reviews and Sylvie's style immediately caught my eye. It looks like a style of a woman who knows what she likes and wants, it's impeccable but doesn't scream designer (it reminds me of that video by Alexa Chung when Camille Charriere told her that French women don't necessarily want you to know where they got something from). I might watch the show just to see all of her looks and maybe learn a thing or two from her attitude. :D

I definitely agree about Sylvie being a style icon however I really liked Emily in Paris, I thought it was a fun and enjoyable show for the most part. The only truly offensive stereotype that stood out to me was the Ukrainian shoplifter but personally I didn't even get that it was a jab at Ukrainians until someone told me because frankly I've never heard of that stereotype. That stereotype is typically applied to Romani people so was it supposed to be a veiled jab at them but making her Romani would be over the line? I think that jokingly depicting french people as rude and cheaters is very different from making a Romani character veiled as a Ukrainian, into a thief.
@MarianaZelenjuk
@MarianaZelenjuk 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sofie, and thank you for watching! I guess the show from the beginning did resort to "innocent" stereotypes, and since the whole point is for us to see the culture shock from Emily's move to Paris, they have to exaggerate some features that in the real world wouldn't be as present. However, living in Milan I have witnessed a lot of negativity towards Eastern Europeans (not only Romanians). I guess that if they had done the same bit with another American nobody would care, but the fact that they purposefully chose an Ukranian hit a nerve.

Ha! Brazil! I was trying to place your accent for the longest time…your surname is Slavic, yes? So I was confused. Yes! Brazilians, especially the women, suffer from horrible stereotypes. It’s important to remind people of all different types of personalities and expressions but I also think we should put pressure on the media to represent people more fairly. The media hasn’t helped at all with the portrayal of Latin and Hispanic women no matter what color they are or why country they come from. Also, I tried the show and could only get through 40 minutes hahaha I’m going to try and watch for fashion only because the content, yikes…
@MarianaZelenjuk

Hi, Elle! Yes, my surname is from the Romanian-Moldovan-Ukranian region (we're not really sure since the borders in that region changed a lot 😂). Thank you for watching! I've seen a lot of improvement in the last years regarding the portrayal of Latin America, but I do still feel like most of the word see us as this huge uniform territory, where everyone speaks Spanish and eats spicy food. We'll get there eventually... I'm sure of it ;)
Being elegant is cool again 🙌
