Finally a positive review comparing the F900xr to a competitor🎉. I’ve owned my F900xr going on 3 years now and it continues to impress. The last tank of gas I got 207 miles with a gallon of gas still left in the tank😳. The real genius behind BMW’s engineering of the f900xr is it’s approachability, versatility, comfort and balance. Most people buying a motorcycle here in America are buying a expectation. They dream of doing these long trips to far off places but the reality is they rarely venture far from home. Most of their riding is local and that type of riding doesn’t lend itself to 900 lbs bagger/tourers. I know I use to be that person. BMW understanding this built a motorcycle that would be much more approachable and easy for the average motorcyclist to commute on while offering storage capacity, high end features, comfort, and technology not found on touring motorcycles twice it’s price. It is far more likely you’ll do more miles and longer trips on a motorcycle that inspires confidence than on a more intimidating heavier motorcycle that is designed for long distance touring. The great thing about the f900xr is that it isn’t just an exciting sport tourer with the rumble and character of a twin but it’s also a great bike to learn on and build confidence with. Getting more bike than you can handle is always a bad idea and I have paid literally for that mistake.

Literally just bought this bike a couple days before this video. I did a lot of research, and the BMW F900XR is the bike for me. It just sucks that there are so many comments in so many reviews and videos about this bike where people come out of the woodwork to say "BUT THE TRACER IS BETTER! Get the Tracer! It's better! Tracer is king! BMW sucks!" I'm beyond happy with my purchase. I don't ride fast. I don't chase thrills or twisty roads. I want something high-quality, stable, smooth, easily controllable, with an actual modern dash (something that almost all other manufacturers skimp on). And this bike hits all those. Perfect bike for me.

I owned this bike for two years. I sold it as I couldn't live with the ergonomics, hard seat and very high service cost. You also have to ride it pretty hard to get the best fun out of it. I had no problem with the clunky transmision, but I know other people did. I believe that the Tracer is still the king in this segment.

I bought one last year, traded in my beloved Tiger 800 xrt for it. I will concede my rear end starts to get uncomfortable after an hour and mine has the so called comfort seat, but other than that I absolutely love it, ticks all the boxes for me and the gears are super slick so not sure why others say they are clunky. I had a Tracer 900 (2015) but I never really got on with it, never felt right. Each to their own, right.

I’ve owned an XR for 2 years and I have to say it’s a fabulous bike. The seat was uncomfortable but I exchanged it for the Wunderlich seat and now it’s perfect. I’ve added so much to it such as Denali spots, Denali soundbomb, INNOVV cameras, gold link chain, Akrapovic exhaust, evotech crash bungs, handguards, MRA vario screen, paint protection film, Denali brake light, fitted Givi top box plate for Givi top box, moved sat nav up to screen with evotech bracket and more which I can’t remember 😂 The quick shifter is not clunky as people say, you have to use it with the throttle open to go up. I’ve taken this bike touring in Northern Spain and France and this bike was born for the twisties. I am going to test ride the S1000XR as that might be my next one. Thanks Eddy.

I have ridden the 900XR, the 1000XR and the new Tracer 9 GT. I happen to love riding in the mountains, which I do every Sunday, so the handling capabilities are super important to me. The 900 XR is hands down the best of the 3 for cornering. Super confidence inspiring, very flickable and holds your line very well. It has the same tire sizes as the 1250 RT while the 1000 has a 10mm wider rear tire. With 100 hp and plenty of torque, the engine is a great all around performer. Compared to the 1000XR which costs way more, the 1000 is a rocket. Its so fast above 8000 rpm, it blurs your vision and honestly scares the crap out of you, but it is a little top heavy and doesn't have the mid range torque the 900 does. The Tracer, even though it has a 17" front tire, must have more rake angle because it wants to go straight and you need to muscle it around corners. Personally, I own a 2023 1250 RT, but I came sooooo close to buying the 900 XR. I went with the 1250 for the wind protection, shaft drive, telelever front suspension etc. Its heavy, so I really have to muscle it through turns, but it handles WAY better than most people think.

I’ve had mine just over two years. It’s not an easy bike to love and lacks a bit of character compared to some other bikes. But switching the awful exhaust to a much lighter and better sounding Mivv exhaust transforms it. The stock seat is hopeless but the comfort is better. Added a cool comfort mesh seat and it’s fixed all the discomfort issues. I’m just coming to the end of a 2k tour around Scotland and the bike has been superb. Great fun on the NC500 route and comfortable on the motorways. It’s taken a couple of years but now I think I love the bike. It’s getting better with age.

So many tracer 9 people got hurt by this review. Do they realize that Greg actually owned a Tracer 9, so he really knows what he's talking about. To me it was never a question that BMW made a better bike than Yamaha this time, the only thing is that Yamaha does come out cheaper, because they make all-inclusive models, where for BMW you have to pay for everything separately. You get what you pay for, you want a better bike, then fork over more money for a BMW, you want a cheaper option, then go for Yamaha, but don't be surprised if you get a worse bike then.

@Luis DeTomaso yamaha is traditionally super reliable, BMW has weird owners, I am in a group of BMW owners, and some people are complaining that you have to give the bike gas as you start it, so BMW had to release a patch so that the bike revs higher as it starts and then drops RPM. I tested the tracer9 GT+. The Tracer is incomparable better than the BMW F900XR. A correct comparison for the Trace9 GT+ would be with the BMW 1000XR, and in this case the BMW(1000XR) would be slightly better.

I also have the F900XR (with all the extras) and agree it is much more refined, I can say that as I used to own a Tracer 900. It was an ok bike, everyone raves about the engine but I didn't find it that great, and it vibrates a hell of a lot.

Your review ist not correct on severall isues. F.i. the suspension on the Tracer 9 gt is fully electronically adjustable, were the 900xr is only at the rear. So the tracer beats the xr in that. I.m.o. the biggest difference is the 2/3cilinder configuration. Now I have a 2 cil after 37 years of big fourcilinders, I feel the biggest difference is the fact that a 2 cilinder feels much more flickable.

Not bad at all, but at the end I decided for the KTM Duke 890 R: less luxuries and comfort, but better engine, frame, suspensions and brakes.

@@MotoJitsu yeah, I know it's funny at my age to go for such a beast instead of something more rational and civilized like a BMW, but I also have a Victory Vision when I need comfort and to make iron butt runs of more than 2.000 km in a straight. 😀 It's new, so I have not done long trips with the 890 R, but the maximum I did with the previous, a 690, is around 1.000 km straight in one étape. More than that is impossible due to the pain in my ass... 😜

It doesn't have GPS, it simply has a cradle for when you buy the £600 sat nav. Yamahas CP3 engine is much more refined and cheaper than this thing .

I think you need to try tracer 9 gt again, but this time in full complectation. You're saying that BMW is better because of things, that weren't included on your particular tracer 9. Tracer has more power and yeah, you can buy GPS for tracer as well I personally hate BMW politics on complectations. When you're buying stock bike - you have only rain and road modes, whereas max performance is only on sport. So you're paying for power that you won't get unless you pay extra for software

900 XR is hardly a Tracer killer...
@applecorp
@applecorp 11 ай бұрын
Why isn't it? I've owned a Tracer 900 and currently own an F900 XR TE, the BMW is easily my favourite out of the two. Tracer has more power but not that much, and that's where the compliments end as far as I am concerned. The F900 is better built, better switch gear, better fuel economy, more comfortable, better suspension, has a higher weight load for luggage etc and arguably the best display and connectivity (as standard) on the market.
@jimddg
@jimddg 6 ай бұрын
I am not sure about your facts and it does not help your point about the Tracer killer. I am trying to decide but you say the Tracer does not have heated grips and GPS and no electronic damping suspension. Not true. The BMW dealer is asking $900 additional for that GPS so it does not come with it and $2500 markup for the bike. I like the style and the dash screen but found a 2022 leftover brand new 9GT $4000 below sticker. It is hard to argue with that.

Its a BMW, if cost is a concern why are you even considering it? Having been on both. The BMW is more refined in a lot of ways, but is it worth the extra cost? That really comes down to the rider and what they want and expect. I will say on the used market, the Yamaha is actually running higher in price than the BMW where I live.
@jimddg
@jimddg Ай бұрын
@@spartanx169x my point was that the video does not mention true facts. I know that for the majority, the purchase of a motorcycle is an emotional decision. But some want more value for their money. If all specifications are similar between those 2 then it comes down to subjective preferences.

Tracer 9 is a pure Japanese product. BMW 900 xr is made in Germany, but is it pure German? I do not think so, it is a BMW model that should only be in this class.

Calling this bike flickable is absolute BS. It's got lazier steering geometry than an Idian chief darkhorse. It's an almost 30° steering head angle. Stable is what it is. Super stable. But it's not flickable, it's just not. I own one so I'm not bashing the bike. I love mine. But it's just not a flickable bike.

Lol I do have to agree. I absolutely love my F900XR in almost all aspects but flickable it is not. It loves long sweeping twisties, on tight turns it wants to stay upright.

Tracer 9 GT vs. F900XR? There's a significant power difference. Otherwise it comes down to features and cost. Yamaha: 104 hp 62 ft-lb on dyno BMW: 85 hp 56 ft-lb on dyno.
