You're not wrong Area, Zone and Route Recon are staples of scouting. I spent 15+ years as a Scout in the Army...as a Scout you're the first to find out how good or how bad the intelligence you were given was...finding out it's bad is never fun. As a Scout I often did ride from our base camp to a designated point then walked from that point to our objective, sand, swamp, marshland, dense forests....but help was just a radio call away if SHTF...mortars, artillery or air support or even other Scout platoons if needed...as a Scout I was never in a platoon of more than 20 men from the Lieutenant to the newest Private my entire career. To put that in perspective an Infantry platoon has nearly double the man power...we had to do more with less all the time

@@aaronsanborn4291 My father was, well, originally it was called Photo Interpreter, but in the world of acronyms that is the U.S. Military, that caused enough confusion that they eventually changed it to Imagery Interpreter. Basically he was handed the film from recon planes, identified what was in the photos, and figured out what they meant. When I was younger, his stories about being in Vietnam were more about the crazy maneuvers the pilots would pull to get their photos - which for other reading, the recon planes had no guns. In later and more recent years, his ... less stories, more anecdotes... took a darker turn. I remember a family dinner where someone mentioned a video that showed thermite being used to cook a turkey - and his scowl and comment about its foolishness - and how when he was there they had thermite attached to all the equipment should they ever be captured. Long story short... shorter. Given the risks that even the "safer" non-coms faced, you have my respect, sir.

They've shown the capability of doing things with the franchise like that, the fact that Ewok Hunt in SWBF2 exists shows that they know exactly how. But they seem to be making more money off of pushing the Jedi vs Sith narrative, instead of the perspective of Core vs Outer Rim that seems to be the reoccurring connection even predating the Sith.

Hmm I disagree as their job is not to engage the enemy. It might be dangerous and their day by day may be tougher than a regular soldiers day by day, but yet their mission is not to directly fight the enemy, wich as history and common sense has shown us, its the most deathly work on any army

Republic Command: Report! The 91st: After landing we fell into a nest of gundarks, fled into an enemy mine field, were captured by a droid patrol, stripped of our weapons, sealed inside a prisoner transport, almost drowned when the transport crashed into the ocean, were attacked by several sea carnivores, washed up on the shores of a volcano, inhaled toxic fumes, got caught in a massive eruption, and woke up in the infirmary. Republic Command: Hello? Kamino? Can you send us some clones who are actually capable of reconnaissance? Not until the current batch is dead. That's okay. I'll just send them on a mission they won't come back from.

I don't think there's any good way to deal with that. I imagine Plo Koon would have been immensely depressed commanding them, with how disposable they not only were but needed to be, the risks of the job, the things they would see and the fact that they would get no support. Things like that will weigh on anyone until something breaks, that's part of why war, especially prolonged war is so awful. Some people "get used" to it and become less human, other people break under the pressure. Take note of the fact that Plo Koon commanded a battalion that was the support, that was the humanitarian aid, that was able to get in and out and help other Clones when they needed it. I don't think he could've lasted the way he was if they weren't like that.

Can you talk about the galactic civil war? That conflict started as revolution before became a real war. A government trying to stop a revolution can be terrible for civilians caught in the middle. There are many examples in our world of what can happen when a government tries to put down a revolution by force. You should talk about how that war effected the civilians. The empire literally destroyed their own loyal civilians and worlds when they knew the rebels would win.

I've been playing on Arma 3 SW Rp server as a member of 91st for 4 months now and I totally agree. You have to ride ahead of all other legions, facecheck every city/forest/hill(Drones are designated to ARF squads, we don't have them) and don't get caught. Mind you, we don't have anything heavier than an few RPS-6, so amything from simple Droideka to AAT will cause massive casualties in squad. And all the info we gather are often not even used because 21st or 501st simply rush head on and steamroll everything. Meanwhile, my squad is struggling in a gunfight with 10 B1, because operation commanders send us to create a "distraction" 5 km's in enemy territory

Recon Corps don't really make a lot of sense. Rather, Clone formations should have organic recon elements included with them. Regimental battlegroups should have recon companies. Divisions should have recon battalions. Corps should have recon regiments.
@Chabier-mx2mz
@Chabier-mx2mz Жыл бұрын
It works literally as u said, but instead of beeing integrated into other corps they have a unified independent one. This is actually much better as it is more efficient and can specialise on the work much more than if they were integrated into the rest of the army
@nicholaswalsh4462
@nicholaswalsh4462 Жыл бұрын
@Javier except that creates a problem: integration. Modern militaries maintain distinct recon elements, like the Cavalry branch of the US Army, but they integrate recon formations into maneuver formations so that the soldiers train as they fight: together. By maintaining all of your recon assets in one place and your maneuver assets in another, none of them learn to work together and you wind up with commanders who do not know how to employ the recon assets properly and recon commanders who fail to provide prompt intelligence because they don't understand the task of the force they are Scouting for. The way the GAR does it is the WORST way to do it. Organically integrating recon elements into regular maneuver formations DOES NOT prevent those recon formations from being recon formations. It enables them to be more useful by enabling training with the elements they will be supporting and to create bonds of trust and lines of communication to better facilitate the transfer of that recon information between the scouts and the commanders.

Recon missions ARE indeed VERY VERY Hazardous, an even stressful, dangerous, etc BUT you forgot to ALSO state the VERY VERY important reason in that Intel is also of extreme importance in war. An often such units are ALSO ALSO ALSO expected to be quite a bit MORE elite then majority of most everyone else due to like narrated, they could expect little or no help if they ran into sometimes serious issues an often was the first sent in to find out what was going on an what EVERYONE else including them would be up against or would be far behind enemy lines. These kinda units were one step down from being Marines, Commandos an other similar units. An kinda actually was a kinda shock force due to the nature of this kinda work when you think about it. Those guys was like the gap bridged line between regular forces an all the specialized "elite" commandos my guess they only got MORE deadly/lethal, Commando, an shock force like far as GAR forces went from here
