The subtext is good enough it has people questioning if Jango knew about Order 66.

why would Jango have any idea about Order 66?

“You are in my very soul, tormenting me.” I have two things to say about that scene: 1. Every woman wants to be the end-all, be-all to a man she likes, even (maybe even especially) a man she’s trying to resist. It’s no place for subtext or guessing games. Anakin is laying his heart on the line, at no risk to Padmé. 2. Anakin is young and inexperienced with women. He’s an awkward, mawkish teenager trying to express his feelings to an older woman who he has loved since he was 10 years old. He probably has Imposter Syndrome, having gone from slavery (lowest of the low) to being a Jedi (highest of the high). He is certainly not sophisticated enough to know how to employ subtext to protect himself. I know most Star Wars fans are male, and I’m not surprised that those romance scenes make most of them tremble and squirm at the thought of making themselves so vulnerable. That’s why the scenes are ridiculed. Even the conversation about sand was this brash boy trying to communicate with his girl. However, as a female, I was charmed by his innocent passion and I’m glad the strength of his feelings wasn’t washed out and hidden by the employment of subtext.

I watched this movie in the theatre at my 14. As a 14-year-old boy I related with Anakins' teenager clumsiness at flirting. The dialogue never bothered me. Maybe a little bit over the top but still functional.

@@claudioforjan1743 I watched it in cinema at the exact same age. I don't remember enough what I felt about the movie, but it apparently had such a profound impact on me that I became a huge Star Wars fan afterwards, watching all the films I haven't watched, playing the video games and even reading some of the books.

Obiwan's investigation from Coruscant to Geonosis, from Dexters Diner to the cell and conversation with Dooku were the best parts of the film. It's only a shame that the clunkiness with with Anakin's side of the film was not even half as good. (With the exception of his mothers death and his 1st true steps to the dark side.)

Now that I have seen the slop Disney put out, I find that the prequels were actually very well done.

Fascinating analysis. And yes, it would seem that George Lucas put a lot of thought into this dialogue when choosing the words. Unfortunately, it's so subtle that most people (myself included) probably never noticed. Adding some sort of allusion to this scene later in the movie would have been huge, even if people didn't realize it was an allusion until the second rewatch. Suppose Obi-Wan saw Jango boldly gun down a member of the High Counsel, or cast a foreboding glance over his shoulder on Kamino post-skirmish to see a platoon of clones drilling on a nearby platform? Supposing, even, the movie got slightly more obvious? Imagine if, after Jango seemed to blow Obi-Wan's ship up with a mine, Boba said "I've always wanted to see you fight!" and Jango replying "the pleasure was all mine."

The best subtext you’ll ever see is probably Quentin Tarantino’s works Looking at the Star Wars “subtext” It feels stiff in a lot of ways

Man these comments are showing you what's wrong with screenplays too! Everyone here is just copying one person's comment and slightly changing it, hardly any originality. I like this video we need more videos such as this one!

Considering the writing quality of Hollywood these days, I don’t think it’s necessarily bad to point out decent dialogue. I mean, I’m sure the drooling monkeys behind the sequels would think this dialogue was too smart for them.

“I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere." Pure poetry lmfao. Attack of the Clones is awful.
