A little inward turning of the front foot will improve your balance and your punching power.

As an MMA guy I'm always interested in why in different combat sports they do certain things. Not necessarily because I want to do them but because I want to know why my opponent is doing them. This is one of the best combat sports KZbin channels out there and its free.

As a boxer I am constantly aware and adjusting location and positioning of my lead foot. While I don't envision adopting this stance for the whole fight, this will be a stance I switch in and out of moving forward. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I have definitely benefitted from it.

I'm from toronto and this is the only stance you'll be trained in for boxing, the only people I've seen train in a lead foot pointing forward stance are muay thai. When they come train with us they always get yelled for pointing their lead feet forward. Where do you train and are you boxing or something else?

De La Hoya relied more on his left hand than his right, maybe this is why he used straight foot it gave him more freedom. Joe Louis is another legend who pointed it straight, he lifted his front foot and turned it inwards while lifted when throwing the left hook, and he stepped forward with his right foot accompanying his straight right; in both cases for more power. So he was not really on both feet when throwing power punches. Talking about two super talented offensive fighters anyway. Both leaned forward with their trunk pretty much, I guess that foot position is more comfortable while doing so

Doesn't turning the foot inwards lock up the hip though ? making it harder to turn your hip when you throw the right hand ? Love your channel by the way ! learning so much
@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y
@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y 2 жыл бұрын
I've never actually done any boxing, but IMO the boxing stance creates torsion in the body. Like twisting a spring, then letting it go. After a jab, it's almost like your right hand wants to strike by itself. You can try it yourself.
@dratuagreg
@dratuagreg 2 жыл бұрын
Yea of course. What i'm saying is that by turning the front foot inwards you tend to lock up your hip which makes it hard to get your hip to a squared up position when you throw your right hand. Kinda like trying to throw a tennis ball as far as you can with your hip closed off (front foot turned inward) , it would be hard to get maximal power.
@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y
@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y 2 жыл бұрын
@@dratuagreg According to boxing coaches I follow, if you draw a straight line, your right heel and the tip of your left foot should be on opposite sides. Your left foot would block a squared position only if it's in front of your right foot.

@@dratuagreg I found that it doesnt affect my hip rotation, I still get the full rotation and also have my body weight behind the 2. My knees sort of go inward tho, but the power and balance is still there. Plus, it looks like an Achilles pose.

Nice video coach. Was shadow boxing ( coming from a kickboxing background where you need to have the front foot pointing forward to check and protect the back of the knee from lowkicks) that you get way more power and stability. I really like this stance more because for a MMA guy you can throw side kicks and oblique kicks and spinning back kicks, also front leg kick but the back leg is pretty much dead for any kind of round house If you keep foot inwards.

How amazing similarities there are between traditional Chen Tai Chi Chuan and boxing ! The traditional forward stance is exactly as coach Fredov explains and for the very same reasons is used in TCC. Sadly " modernized" versions of TCC is now teaching point the lead foot directly to the oponent. Technically TCC and boxing share much in common but they vastly differ strategically. Keep your great work coach !

The new school tai chi will get you thrown on your head when you face a wrestler/grappler. It will also get you snap kicked(front) or kneed to the groin. Can you imagine how easily the front leg would get rotated by a wrestler if it’s straight when he shoots. Also it’s easier to sprawl out. Keeping the legs away. In true tai chi the wrestler shooting would get his neck broke outside of a formal competition on the street.

I disagree tbh. In MMA there is certain times when being inwards is good for example quick oblique or side kicks, spinning back kicks. The main thing imo not to always be in that position and know to adjust quickly. Staying like that throughout the fight is bad though which Stephen Wonderboy tends to do and it gets him taken down often but finding a way to throw certain kicks without staying in that position throughout. Will improve the range and types of kicks your able to throw.

I love it like this and specially in plandemia where I haven´t trained much with other people, this detail I saw in cubans (of course they adapted soviet school to develop their style) boxers and now in eastern europeans suits me well to feel balanced.
@massdisruption3437
@massdisruption3437 5 ай бұрын
No they didn’t adopt Soviet school. Cubans boxed in America before the Russians came into the picture. They’re style is influenced heavily by early black American fighters. The Russians style is their bare knuckle influenced by Cubans and old American style fighting.

You only need to roll your hip a bit to block a leg kick or collapse your leg a bit to absorb the impact. Angled lead foot works fine against leg kickers.
