In a surprising turn by historical standards, Biden’s polling has improved significantly in the last few weeks. So exactly what is driving Biden's rise? Can it be sustained going into the midterms? And do the Democrats have a chance of actually winning?

Be very careful about using the August polls for November midterms. August just happened to be an unusually good month for the Democrats because they managed to get out 1 big piece of legislation and the stock market began rebounding. We are 2 market days into September and the stock market has already begun to fall again as the Fed promised to continue its big rate hikes (likely another 0.75% raise in September) until they get evidence of inflation consistently slowing and the Democrats have now blown their legislative load, so they will have nothing else this year. Now, this is not the end of the world for the Democrats, as I think they still have a chance. I think the biggest tell for whether the Democrats will win or not in the Midterms will be the November 2nd Fed meeting right before the November 8th midterm election. The September meeting is going to be painful and cause the stock market and retirement funds to sink even lower. However, if, in November, the Fed says that there is significant evidence of inflation slowing and either doesn't raise rates or does a small raise (say 0.25%), then the stock market will begin a massive rally right before the election. This will be massive for Democrats because it will let them say that their policy fixed inflation, and will let them point to the IRA regardless of what impact it actually had.
@pugdad2555
@pugdad2555 Жыл бұрын
That is all a man-made idea though so why should we have our entire economy run by a bunch of still mostly (vvhite) men having meetings. Imagine the impact it could have if vvhite people didn't burn down the Stock Market in Tulsa, OK solely due to the color of their skin. It was doing better than the Wall Street Stock Market. We need to learn our history if we are going to have a better future.

Another thing that might help the Democrats is news regarding the DOJ investigation onto the former President, or how Trump will act until the midterms, and the January 6 commission. The Democrats are trying to frame this election on preserving their democracy and institutions, so any news regarding the DOJ and the J6 commission will benefit them. Good economic performances reduces Republican attacks, and solidifies the Democrats standing.

Nobody cares about the stock market. I even have a stock portfolio and I know the market rose when covid was at its worst and unemployment was 10 percent. Wall street is controlled by billionaires who have a ton of discretionary cash. Honestly, whilst the month of August was the month of the Biden, since most voters have small attention spans, what really matters is political and popularity performance in the month of October. After all, every October of a voting year is crunch time where clutch polls really shape the public minds going into election week. Also, if Democrats are gonna pull off a definitive win, they will need a fair share of luck; twice as much, to dominate both chambers of Congress.

In the case of Alaska, the GOP ran Sarah Palin who is a notoriously unpopular figure in Alaskan politics. A lot of Republicans who voted for Begich decided not to throw their support behind Palin in the second round, if you combine Begich and Palin votes in the first round, it's 58.8% to Peltola's 39.7%.

Not that simple. Alaska is ranked choice. If everyone who voted Palin or Begich had put the other as their second choice, either could have won. But they didn't. 2 things that guarantee a major global economic crash in late November are the CCP elections and the Mid term elections in the US coming up around the same time. A lot of unsustainable stimulus and subsidising are happening right now to prop things up till those elections are completed. Right after it'll go tits up. Hard. Gas prices are down in the US because the government is draining all it's strategic reserves to suppress prices rises before the mid term elections, but there just enough in the reserves to make it to that point and no farther. Prices will skyrocket right after. China is also doing such things till Xi 100% secures his position for life this fall. Nothing will be able to prop the global economy up after that. I mean it's good to stop making it worse, it has to come down, we need a crash, it's actually a good thing, but the avoidance for so long means it'll be much uglier than it needed to be.

It’s be great if the US adopted Australia’s system where you can vote for two parties and if your number one doesn’t get the majority your vote goes to number two. This way, Republicans wouldn’t have to resort to extremist, unpopular positions, and elections would be more democratic. I think it’s easy to develop an us vs them mentality in a two party system, but we have real issues at hand and we can’t be divided anymore.

It's kind of pointless really. They just need to retain the senate for judicial apointments and because 2024 is a bad map for dems so they need to limit their losses. If not it is another 2 years of the same.

@@theuglykwan Perhaps you have completely given up on FINALLY codifying abortion rights, (Lewis) voting rights, anti-hate crimes, and more. What about, not just over-writing, but getting rid of filibusters? All of these and more require a super majority, and, given today's politics, it definitely will not be bipartisan. Also, how many times are we gonna rely on VP Kamala Harris to break a tie (she's close to breaking Calhoun's record)? Manchin & Sinema aren't always reliable, either. And simply shaping the Judiciary isn't enough when the Legislature isn't on lock. To be honest, no one can really predict how it is going to go down in the 2024 elections. So the Democratic Party has to make Joe Biden's presidency a historic legislative term that dwarfs even LBJ. The Infrastructure, Chips + Science, & Inflation Reduction Acts and the Executive Order won't be enough to recover from Trump's first term and the threat of a second term. For any of this to occur, the Blue Coalition must not only maintain its majority but dramatically expand it -- and the House is ket for that.

Trump never got above 40 percent his entire presidency. So Biden is doing better. People like to blame presidents for things they have no control over, like gas prices. Still more to accomplish, like restoring Roe and equal rights for women, voters rights, climate change, civil rights, and immigration reform.
@darth3911
@darth3911 Жыл бұрын
Um no, first off Biden did indeed have control over gas prices. He was the one to sanction Russia and he was the one to sell U.S. oil reserves to non U.S. oil company’s. Secondly the overturning of roe was done because the courts viewed it as the local states decision on whether abortion should and or shouldn’t be illegal. Roe was a unconstitutional federal law which in reality shouldn’t have ever become law. Thirdly woman already have equal rights to men so that point of yours alone is pointless. fourthly he reopened the borders and is not actually managing the borders, it’s gotten overwhelmed with immigrants who cross the borders illegally. Lastly pulls tend to be taken from one state in one small area, they usually mean nothing and should not be counted as fact based.
@skylark1250
@skylark1250 Жыл бұрын
@@darth3911 No president controls has prices. And Russia has no stake in U.S. oil reserves. What happens is the oil execs react to rumors and perceptions of what the market will do. Saudi Arabia is sticking it to America and we should not be doing any business with them. They gave Jared $2 billion for what? For classified documents that Trump stole. That’s where this investigation is going. Espionage. Trump? Incompetent at best but he’d do anything for money. Roe was overturned based on religious beliefs not on the Constitution. So it will be overturned. Republicans have a baby fetish and forced births is what that party wants which is crazy. It’s a minority party. It’s a minority opinion to ban abortion. It’s actually not the governments business. Medical decisions do not belong in board rooms or government. It’s between a woman and her doctor. Roe was federal law for 50 years and it was clearly a partisan decision that means the Court is no longer relevant and Congress will have to codify everything they overturn. That makes their opinions irrelevant and specious.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the majority view, but its influence is reaching the mainstream of the party. You also have about what...2/3 of the GOP electorate now believing the sitting president did not legitimately win the last election? And hardly any of their politicians daring to say otherwise. Try to understand both sides of the argument instead of waving the oppostion away as evil. Surprise surprise I agree on some issues with both major political parties who'd thunk that. Hell, even in my 10+ multiparty system I can't seem to agree fully with anyone. But a major part of this problem is the electoral system IMO where inevitably only two parties take center stage because of the spoiler effect. And social media where you're only fed your particular strain of bias because of an algorithm
