I think my “aha” moment for Micheal is somewhere in the later seasons when you finally realized all he wants in life is to be loved. To me, he is an attention seeker and a people pleaser to the extent of making awful choices, but all because he has a lot of love to give and wants to be loved in return. not a stretch at all. michael has a lot of narcissistic tendencies, and this is no mistake. narcissists are actually very deeply insecure people who create a facade of being self-obsessed and berating others because that's the only way they know how to deal with their insecurities. though i don't think micahel is a full-on narcissist, he is definitely very insecure about himself (this is likely due to not having friends as a child, and having a tough home life), and because of that he acts out in order to get attention, even if it means hurting people who he loves (the office). as mentioned in the video, once he meets holly, someone who does truly care about him and enjoys spending time with him, he becomes less insecure about himself, and matures as a person.

That was depressing though.. Showed how sad and lonely his life was. It was like when he faked he was going to commit suicide and then actually had to be cheered up and given a reason to live and Darryl couldn't really think of any. That hit on reality for many people. Many people out there are like that and really have no one to share their lives w/despite trying or wanting to... Even me. I'm pretty much a loner even though I want more people in my life and crave a sense of community that our society overall has broken down over the last few decades and so we're all so isolated now and not even knowing our neighbors. We all just have to do the best we can w/what we've got, but I wish people would reach out more. We need to be friendlier to everyone in America or things will keep getting worse.

I like in "The Traveling Salesman" episode when Michael and Andy go on the road to make a sale. It was also one of those humanizing moments for Michael when it showed he can be competent and make a sale (or try to make a sale if not for Andy to screw it up). And also in the same episode, Jim and Dwight, when out of the office to make a sale, showed they can actually work together, not argue and actually make a really great team. It was him wishing to get married, have kids, and have friends. The room got silent, he was confused and sad. He went to his office and stayed there. That was so heartbreaking, but in the end scene we saw him laughing and crying when he was watching the tape of the kids show. The screen showed the other kids on the cast, and they were having fun with him. That made be sob.

Best moments for me for Michael Scott were: 1. The sale he made to the guy at Chili's. Showed us he was actually competent. That he actually had awareness of reality. 2. Pam's art show. Showed us that he actually does care about these people he works with, and to an extent, he cares about us the audience. 3. The hug he gives Holly after Jan leaves. This might be my favorite scene of all. He's so honest in the moment to show us what it is he wants. He wants someone to accept him. 4. His last scene with Jim. It's the moment when we the audience realize how much we love Michael Scott, flaws and all. When we finally accept him.

The negotiation Michael does with David, citing how he doesn't have to wait out DM, he only has to wait out David and his review as CFO, is in my opinion the highlight of the series and Michael's success. You see how passionately strong of a salesman he is there. You see that he can sell anybody on anything and get his way. It is absolutely flawless and brilliant.

I always saw it as The Office and its workers gradually getting more comfortable on camera (as they are being filmed for a TV show, afterall!) as the Seasons progress. It becomes less about playing up to the camera and some presenting themselves as "perfect" and just becoming more free in time! So beautifully written and so seamlessly acted xx

Michael Scott is the very example of the Peter's Principle. He's the best salesman in the company's history. He's promoted to a position he's wholly unsuitable, but when the chips are down, he can still make a sale.

I think Todd Packer plays a huge role in Michael's development in the eyes of the viewers. When we first see him, we think of him as a duplicate of Michael Scott, but with each appearance of him, we see that Michael isn't mean spirited like Todd is. Todd is the "cool guy", people on the lower levels of social hierarchy, like Kevin and Michael, worship him. And that's how he gets away with puking out his offensive thoughts in the form of comedy. Michael, however, has a hard time making friends, he can't pull people the way Todd does because he isn't "cool" like him. He uses comedy to try to make people like him, not to belittle people. I think this is best displayed when Michael stands up for Phyllis and hugs her when Todd makes fun of her, reasurring her that she's beautiful. Phyllis feels sympathy for Michael and this excites Michael as he often doesn't get this kind of friendly affection from people. He gets too excited and follows it up with "I'm afraid of getting a boner". He crosses the line, not because he wants to be mean towards her but because he thinks his behaviour is being rewarded and he can't see that there is a limit after which people get uncomfortable. Tldr his offensiveness stems from his stupidity rather than his personality

Same. I keep seeing small clips of funny moments. So I decided to watch the office. Within the first couple minutes of the episode 1. I couldn’t sit through it. I was thinking why isn’t it funny like the clip or why isn’t it interesting. So every few years I try to watch the office, but couldn’t do it. 2 years ago I finally force my butt to sit down and watch it. Love every minute of it.

@Acujeremy5 жыл бұрын
@@Ignatz71 That isn't true that we cannot handle it. First off, 95% of Americans never even seen the UK Office, second, those who have seen it tend to love it. Pretty much every American that watch the UK Office loves it. I just didn't love it but I also don't really liek British comedies. I don't like Ricky Gervais and find him not that funny and the plot lines of the UK Office just didn't go into too much depth like the US one. The US one went into 9 seasons with heavy character development, great writing and interesting plots.

honestly i used to hate Michael before but slowly he became my all time favorite character from the office. He's such an awesome character like gosh he's so cleverly written. Especially in the later seasons, he's an airhead, a dork, annoying and also really stupid but he's also smart and caring and sensitive. He behaves like a ten year old and a 50 year old at the same time. Props to the people who wrote his character

Great vid. Truth is, though, that the branch was going to close anyway. It was only because Josh went to Staples that the Scranton branch was saved. This was still a great way of keeping the realism in the show, cause Josh was a way, way better boss, so it made sense he would be kept on and Michael let go. Those first 7 seasons were gold (Robert California is an amazing character as well)
