Partisan division and rivaling ideologies. You see, even the most far fetched cost for a real universal and free healthcare system covering every single citizen of the United States. This includes all doctors appointments, free medications, all surgeries, acute dental care and etc. The total cost is estimated to be around 32-33 trillion dollars each decade. Now you might see that number as absolutely crazy and unthinkable, but hold your horses for just a bit. Annually, the Federal Government spends about 3.9 trillion dollars on healthcare, or roughly 18% of GDP. Over a decade, that’s ~39 trillion dollars. What also have to our benefit is even though we have the third largest population in the world, we have by a wide margin the largest budget per person in the world at over 11.000 dollars per citizen. That’s about 2x as much all other countries in the world bar second place Switzerland with 8.000 dollars. Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Japan, Sweden and all other developed nations have between 5000-6500 per person. Do you understand how ridiculous it is that we don’t have universal healthcare? Do you know just how unrivaled we’d be in healthcare if we had? You can thank sincerely the Republican Party for blocking EVERY single proposal for a universal healthcare system. @@AustinGaspar Nah in the netherlands for example we only pay 140 a month with a yearly co pay of 385 euros a year an that’s it. It cover all forms of basic care +dental, hearing, mental health and even all my medications for my pre excisting conditions. No extra payments. My governement even has healthcare stimulus in which they provide us 112 euro’s of the 140 i pay a month. (for ppl with low tow middel income.) It’s fantastic compated to the us. And the 140 is like one of the most extensive premiums, the basic coverage is about 125 a month.

A national healthcare system is simply not the same as universal healthcare - unless it becomes - one tax-based system and the 'right' of all citizens. Yes, I said it, ...an entitlement. (The opposition to that is enormous!) The wife and I have been in healthcare and watched the process since Hilary Clinton took a shot at it, and where the money-power people spiked it fast to later propose a much different route. Obama was that weakened way, ...resulting only in the creation of additional policies being paid for by taxpayers, but leaving the patchwork described here undisturbed. (The lie was in insurance companies feigning being bankrupted by it all.) Therefore, ...universal healthcare has been 'buried' under a national healthcare program from the beginning. For it to get in now they would have to convince the majority of people that it is worth paying most your check every month to pay for that surgery some random homeless person needs. thats a very common misconception. as far as taxes go, it wouldn't have to be increased by much if at all if you look at other countries with universal healthcare. and even if it is increased, the amount you'd be paying in taxes will almost certainly be less than the amount you have to pay monthly to your insurer. also, America has one of the most expensive healthcare systems because of the system we have. Healthcare providers charge so much for surgeries and medicines because they know insurance companies will always try to low ball them with the amount they'd receive as payment, so to counter this they bill patients more than the actual cost to try and get paid a fair amount. this unfortunately leads to the uninsured to have to pay nonnegociated prices which is why you see crazy bills for simple procedures. with our current system, an ambulance ride, for example, can costs over $1k for emergencies (varies depending on location, insurance, etc.) whilst in Canada, its usually just a flat rate of $125 (more or less depending on location). We can definitely afford universal healthcare and everyone would be better for it.

As an American that makes a bit more sense. Thank you for the info. When someone outside my country says free healthcare it makes me mad because it's not free. Universal healthcare is a much better term. Thing in this world is free someone has to pay for the doctors and the equipment that they use to help their people. I'm so used to living off of insurance that all of my money gets taken out of for other people. I'm fine with helping those who need it but it makes me worry about the people who take advantage of it who don't need it when there's a lot of people in this country who really do need it. People will go to the hospital just for a cough and act like they're dying when they're not. Having universal help care would be perfect for people in need like the homeless, and the adoption centers that are taken care of children who've been neglected and abandoned or had their parents killed. That I would be more than happy to pay my taxes too.

If we went the traditional route of universal healthcare, we'd have to nationalize the hospitals and doctors. That means that most doctors and all specialists would receive dramatically lower pay. If we went with a hybrid system, whereby the GVT sets prices (al la Medicare) and doctors/hospitals would have to comply, it still wouldn't work. Some hospitals would fail because they don't have their expenses in order. Providers would also need to reduce their income dramatically or (more likely and what is happening now), play the system such that they do more tests/procedures, make sure they are a part of a hospital (so get a higher reimbursement), or something else. Of course the medical system does not operate under supply/demand/price rules (healthcare is not finite, but ever expanding into things like "pre" hypertension. You don't have it, but we'll treat you anyway). So anything that is proposed must be put through this filter. For example, cutting the number of days a person stays in the hospital may sound great, but if the cost for 1/2 those days is now more than the prior full term, something is wrong (so 3.5 days costs more than 7 days).

Good video but he left out alot of stuff. Healthcare is a business not a right or a charity and the US population is far greater than all the countries he named. He also omitted that Britain got the Hospital Plan because the continent was leveled after the war. Churchill had to give the people somethin g for morale, especially since many had lost everything g and had injuries, let alone deaths in families. He is right in the fact that its a patchwork of systems. Workplaces providing health insurance would have to go away and eliminate all other insurance . I believe that the key point of your argument that causes dissension and misunderstanding is the determination of whether or not healthcare is a right. From your standpoint, healthcare is a privilege that is to be earned through merit. Hence, attaching health insurance to employment seems like the logical decision. However, there are some (such as myself) that feel that healthcare should be a human right. The UN states: "Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more." I would argue that the vast majority of these human rights are inherently dependent upon being in a state of good health. One cannot live without it. One cannot sustain work or education while ill. Health underpins so many vital parts of life and society that it is simply impossible to separate it as "a privilege". That isn't to say that changing the American system from its existing state to a universal healthcare system would be simple, or free from "road bumps" along the way. Universal healthcare isn't a flawless system, and the legwork required to convert our system is certainly significant, but I believe that it is worth the effort. Healthcare is essential to human life and happiness, and those are human rights. We should strive to maximize the availability of these rights.

The US does have free healthcare for the elderly, physical and mentally disabled, babies, children, and ACA is basically universal healthcare.

You have to fill out a Bible of paperwork and make sure all your Ts are dotted…..and one screw up can get you canceled. In those countries it’s free and universal by virtue of citizenship.

Not really. Not everyone qualifies for ACA. A lot of part time workers get shafted

Only for poor people. The middle class is not included .-. Then the struggle is that middle class has to pay a lot to be covered 🫠
