Last night, the Warriors displayed the kind of ball movement and player movement that gets most coaches up off their chairs in amazement, and Coach Nick was no exception. He breaks down how their offense works and why it is so hard to guard, especially when Steph Curry is willing to do something no other super star is willing to do.

The Warriors system and Curry’s unselfishness make the players around them better. Poole, Lee, Toscano -Anderson, Wiggins, Looney, Payton all playing their best in this system. And if we look back throughout the years - Zaza, Livingston, Javale, Ezeli, Speights to name a few all flourished because the Warriors play to everyone’s strengths rather than just focus on hero ball.

GSW fans appreciate the beauty of the total team motion offense, and the "hot babe" basketball joy it inspires. For new Premier League fans (inspired by Ted Lasso), the Warriors emulate several "Total Football" tactics made popular by the Dutch in the 1970's. This includes creative movement, spontaneity and switching where each player reacts and responds to the movements by their own team.

@@yugurtz As great as ppl think he is, he's still underrated. I mean that coz most ppl think he kills teams with his shooting. But he uses that reputation to fool defenses to earn open shots to his teammates and he doesn't even get an assist for that but I guarantee you, those shots aren't there if not for him. No other superstar is even willing to do what he does. Take Lillard for instance, who is seen as a great shooter despite shooting barely 40% just once in his career... Have you seen him taking advantage of the attention he gets from defenses to create shots for others? No he plays hero ball. Run around as much as him and we wouldn't when be able to think straight until we catch breath. And his "clutchness" is just a lazy talk show narrative. He's had so much playoff siccess and playoff shooting records, it doesn't even make sense. The only time he shrunk from his usual self is 2016 finals where he was playing with a sustained injury. They actually don't need that much talented players. Curry and Klay are enough for them. What they needed are skilled players that don't have ego. Look at the roster now. Honestly, this offense only works because of Curry's gravity and unselfishness. It has a trickle down effect to the rest of the team. Even during the KD years, when Steph was injured, they struggled & had to resort to iso-ball. Where was this offense when Steph went down in 2020 and D'Angelo was the PG?
@MKIVD

Does it make the system any less great because it was designed to take advantage of Steph’s gravity?
@Pit_1209
@Pit_1209 2 жыл бұрын
You can say that of every system, be it defensive or offensive, if players cannot execute then it wont work, the thing is that warriors don't depend on curry getting 40ppg or getting buckets in isolation to win like 90% of the league does with their stars.

@imadubsfan1
@imadubsfan1 2 жыл бұрын
The system benefits MORE when Curry is playing, but I mean what offense DOESN'T revolve around their star player? The difference is the Warriors offense focuses on ball movement as well which provides other players ample opportunities. This Warriors bench isn't the same as the last 2 years where they have struggled. Damion Lee and Jordan Poole are much improved players and will more than likely knock down a layup or 3 now.

29 teams in the NBA play individual ball, then you have the Warriors playing team ball with their superstar leading the way by example and unselfishness and not individual stats obsession. That's the secret, 29 teams don't have Steph Curry as their leader

Curry is simply off the ball movement master, i wonder what other superstars do if they got that kind of super tight defence, literally curry only has less than second 'open shot' before the defenders running close the gap, and almost of his shots are always contested.

I love this team because they not only play in established roles, but play unselfishly doing so. They know eachother really well and they know their sets too but most of all I love their retention rate in their players, since they keep the same core it's easy to bring in and incorporate new players.

With the way things are going right now, there's a really, really great chance we get a Bulls - Warriors NBA finals this year. That's even better than a potential finals rematch between the Bucks & Suns. The Bulls & Warriors match up against one another very well. Lonzo, Caruso, Demar, Pat Will, & Vuc vs Steph, Klay, Wiggins, Draymond & Wiseman. Billy Donovan vs Steve Kerr. Steve Kerr playing against the team he won championships w/ as player this year? Dear god in heaven, please make it happen!!

I didn't watch the game, but from the highlights it seemed to me that the hornet players relaxed after a few movements and lost their concentration, which leads to losing their defense positions, then boom, the warriors were already at the rim laying up or shooting a wide open 3s. They played like semi-pros instead of pros from the clips, but the warriors are always fun to watch.
The Warriors defense is on another level!
