Now you are getting into the territory of voice acting which you’ve touched on in the past and how it can apply to vocal technique and singing too. I encourage everyone to experiment mimicking or trying to mimic their favorite character voices from their favorite shows. It does wonder in seeing how your voice and range can go and in applying that to your singing technique

So many questions answered in my mind with this video. When i want to sing i get anxious and it makes me sing not good my vocal coach told me you are going overboard but i didn't exactly know what he said and i'm figuring out when i'm comfortable while i'm singing and i'm happy and relaxed my pitch is even better. The point is to have fun and enjoy we care alot about stuff.

I had to instantly start clapping to the answer! AMEN bro, yes not all but a good portion of singing is based on you’re confidence, your presence, and you owning it. I mean really. This single factor is exactly what I go for 1000% when I do my vocals, it’s all about getting into the character for me. Good stuff, Chris as always!

Idk why it took me so long to subscribe. Maybe because im much more focused on harsh vocals. How stupid that is though. All these little exercises and tips im finding are easily applied to both clean and harsh vocals. Especially the tips around self confidence and just letting yourself get into the vocalizations. Thanks for all you do Chris!

In fact even being myself a baritone and having reached up to G5 sometimes, my real problem is not extension, it's what I call "stability". I think I sound cringe because of that lack of stability, even at F#4, maybe because I do focus too much on hitting the note rather than enjoying the expression and forgetting being pitch perfect.

🤣🤣 loved the intro! Absolutely Cringy! Definitely talented ❤. And as a child I got Cringy when hearing a dissonance. I was brought up with music and music theory. Now I love it when it's a dissonance, when it's raw like you explained it. When something is real / a characters feelings. What I learned myself is that if you can act, theater like, you can sing it (as long as your range is there) join a theatergroup and learn to make fun 😂. Act crazy without giving a c*** 😜.

This video couldnt be more true. Until one year ago i had a great range. I was the lead vocalist of a hard rock cover band before. Iron maiden and saxon were no problem for me. But that was even longer ago. At that time (last year) i was doing mostly singer songwriter stuff. But at one moment i completely lost a big portion of my register. I couldnt get as high in my head voice and falsetto and my mixed voice did take a hit aswell. I was straining so hard and it felt like i couldnt reach it. At that time i had a breakup with my wife. We needed distance. I saw my son only every two weekends. I isolated myself. It was horrible. I lost so much of my confidence… now i live with my family again but in separate apartments (in the same house) and i am getting my confidence back little by little and i feel the improvement again. I am so confident that i am finally producing and releasing music, though i know i am not at my best vocal state. But i know i will get there eventually. Chris, your videos help me so much. I have watched all your videos. Thank you for being like you are. I would love to be as free and confident as you are one day. Guys. Be crazy, be confident, trust yourself and most importantly…be yourself!

When singing in front of other people (jam sessions or party's where a bunch of us just have a good time playing, I just let loose and have fun. I'm mainly the drummer and can't play and sing, so when we do a sort of Chinese fire drill, the crowd loves it when my giant self comes from behind the kit and goes off. BIG part of it is to be confident and have fun.

I've heard o characterized singing in the anime or JP circle. Especially with vtubers where the cover some songs. It's that distinction that makes their viewers be familiarized by who is singing. They are either twangy, nasal, or just even using an annoying way to sing.

I think this is part of why I personally love Devin's voice so much. Sometimes I'm listening to a track like, say, Storm, and I'm focused on the vocals and I think "hmmm this feels kinda pitchy" but if I just sit back and take in what he's trying to say with the song and it just clicks. And then he destroys the high pitched screams at the end and I ever forget it felt pitchy.

I remember i was once trying to hit a g5 in a way that sounded good, and at that point in time it was totally in my range, i could hit it any day. But of course, i had the issue of it sounding "cringe" and so i started practicing messing around with making my voice raspy and sort of 80s rock-ish and i managed to get a pretty damn decent recording using that technique of just trying to sound all rock like. And the main thing is, i didn't even hit the note in the recording, i was flat, but i was still happy with it. P.S. You have to check out "forever sleep" by sheoru the vocalist is incredible and completely self taught. You might have heard of him from bury the light and his periphery covers.

Yeah it is funny though Chris. Because shooting for the note c5 or whatever does not really achieve a good result. Because a lot of the time the tambor. Comes from the characterisation. So if you hear Janis Joplin hit note X Then go listen to freddy mercury hit the same note. They are totally different. Because the expression and characterisation change the sound. An easy way to make it apparent is try get as close to their sound as you can. So you start off doing a pass through the song and you maybe in tune. But then you listen back and it sounds like Spinal Tap. However as you develop an understanding of the character the expression will give you kind of sound you are after. Which is a better outcome than hitting note X. Does that mean study the character? No. Because it is your interpretation of the characters sound. Don't know why i tell you this? anyway. Cheers bro.
