There are no other translations for "A gyerekeinket pedig hagyják békén" but "Leave our kids alone". If we translate it literally, it would be "Leave our children at peace" as you said, but that does not make any sense.

As a young Hungarian I can say that more groups (especially younger generations) would like to flee if Orbán stays, probably including me aswell. There's no future that we can imagine here. Our currency is weak, education, healthcare weak, propaganda everywhere, they are building stadiums from our tax instead of doing something really useful. Russian friendly Fidesz, doing politics like grandpa's, it's just all wrong. Hope opposition can win, otherwise better plan a life in another country where I can imagine a future for myself, and I can make a family, and give the best future for my children aswell .

The context of all this is, that HU citizens basically gave up on civic society and politics in general tens of years ago already. And a lot of people simply left the country, contributing to brain drain and overall IQ lowering. Those who stayed just mind their own business mostly not wanting to get shamed on basis of their beliefs. HU has had a problem with birth rate for years now, so LGBTQ+ came as a handy scapegoat fo Orban after years of nationalistic tendencies and conflicts (e.g. Romania/Slovakia) people grew bored of and him not being able to improve a lot of growth/wealth/satisfaction indicators. Also, the mean age groups are pretty clear, thus Orban knows what they (=older age groups) want to hear and what they can be easily be made scared of (resulting in e.g. fences on EU borders) All in all, we call him 'little Putin' over here and given the last month few days, it was a really fitting nickname. Really sad to see HU deteriorating like this

Hungary is one of the only countries in World with increasing fertility rate. From 1.23 in 2011 when Orban took power to 1.59 as of 2021. Still very low but going up. He is predicted to win easily in this months election even tho broad coalition of parties (ranges from fascists in Jobbik to Liberals) have all united to beat him. My friends in the States were over the moon with happiness, when Biden won the election. They were angry at me when I said they should wait first before judging the situation, because here in NZ we were told right from the start, that we should expect changes, e.g. inflation and pension funds diminishing because Trump was out of office. Now they admit, that Biden is probably the worst president the US has ever had.... it is chaos over there. They have recently introduced a law that any theft below $2,000 cannot be prosecuted, in order to protect the poor people. Crime has skyrocket since.....small Businesses have to hire security, which they can't really afford.
