Women in Hungary can choose career , but also they can have family and the state helps a lot. My daughter was born few months ago and my wife can choose to stay at home 3 years with the baby or she can choose to go back to work in part time or full time. The companies can't decline women to go back to the same company.

In Poland we have decreasing birth rate too. Government gives 100 Euros of monthly benefit for every child but number births is the lowest in years. The problem is that employers ask women on interview if they have children, day nurseries and preschools are expensive.

Most people would choose to raise familes if they did not feel so economically precarious and vulnerable in modern society with the constant pressure to work and earn or fall behind. Then people who cannot afford to rear their children get told they should not have had kids they could not afford. Loss of family support due to career pressures taking people away from their traditional support structures. Fix the economics and society will follow.

Also, job security is horrible. While everyone in the EU gets money if they can't work because of covid, in Hungary they didn't give anything to people working on hospitality, tourism, festivals, theaters etc. My workplace was closed 9 months out of the last 12 (I could find a different job but that is besides the point, there are thousands of people in a situation where their roles disappeared and got no help)

@blucantrell2
@blucantrell2 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeroenarendonk4160 most advanced economies are neoliberal nightmare dystopias at this point so economic insecurity still applies. Third world countries have high birth rates to ensure survival and in anticipation of a brighter future. Western countries have reached their zenith and having children for many people means losing some economic comforts and regressing to a less secure position in society. Career pressure means many professional women cannot afford to have children too young as they miss out on career development. This increases generation intervals and often women will forgo children as a result. The prudent choice for personal stability means small families or no children. All my female colleagues now in their thirties had hoped to raise familes but societal fragmentation and career pressures eg internships residencies etc mean they are not in a position to do so. This is not their preference.

and as for Hungary many people actually can't afford to have children. If you are a woman and have a job interview one of the first three questions is 'do you have children, do you want/planned to have children' - although it's illegal. If you have a job and have a baby and you are on maternity leave you have to be very lucky not to get fired when you want to go back to work. And women living in small towns or villages can't even dream about having back their job after their maternity leave because there are scarcely have any nursery/daycare opportunity. Sounds great being tax free after the third kid but most of the hungarian families don't earn so much to get it.

Which is ludicrous as the only ones who can make it better are future generations. People are simply demoralised by a lack of purpose and struggling to make ends meet. All this is perfectly understandable and of course people are free to choose to not have kids however they will ultimately in their old age be supported by the children of their peers. By not having children you are essentially not contributing to your own future upkeep as society will have to care for you and people are living ever longer with higher expectations of living conditions. So I agree people have a choice but ultimately someone has to provide for the elderly and society and having a smaller future generation leads to disaster for everyone. I had to work bc my husband got laid off and I didn’t have a choice but to support us.

Pretty flawed logic considering nobody signed up to be born and somehow owing the society. Yes, governments gain more taxes and the country as a whole might get richer the more people are in it, but there are plenty of smaller nations that prosper so the problem isn't necessarily declining population (it's actually the opposite when you look at the whole world). There are other ways for a country to become richer, and other ways than birth to make population grow in a country.

Growing up in the USA I experienced tons of pressure to have children. The comment that annoyed me the most was "you will never experience real love if you do not have children." Bull. While I don't disagree that the loving bond between a mother & her child is special & profoundly unique I do not believe that type of love is the ONLY love or even the best love that can be experienced. In my long life I have experienced lots of loving relationships & have never lacked for love. Romantic love, familial love with parents, siblings, nieces & nephews, friendship love, etc. Bottom line is we should respect the choices that people make.

Wrong. The birthrate increased because 2011 was right after the peak of the financial crisis, and 2020 is a different world compared to 2011 in Hungary and in many other countries. People simply had more money to support a family. And 1.55 is still nowhere near sustainable. If western governments want their populations to have more kids, they'll have to do something thats considered radical - Lowering taxes, lowering costs of living, giving people more financial freedom, and less government in their lives.

So fun! My parents each had 5+ siblings, and each sibling had 2-3 kids. I saw how horrible it was for one cousin when her only sibling died as a teen, so I wanted a minimum of 3 kids. My husband comes from a happy family with too many children (8) and wanted fewer but not none. We agreed on 3-5. Ended up with 3. I'm happy. Children are a blessing. My sister has no children, she's blessed in other ways. There's no need to be against each other, I don't understand why it tends to be like that in the media.

One issue with this policy that was not covered here is how these financial incentives to start families affect the market. Right now, couples that declare that they want to start a family in the near future have an enormous advantage on the real estate market compared to couples that don't, because of these new tax cuts and government loans. The natural reaction of the market is that prices start to go up, to the point where child free couples or individuals that are currently in the same financial situation as those who plan to have children are now being pushed out because they can't access these loans and tax cuts that the market already adjusted to.

This video completely ignores crucial topics like the government discriminating people who CANNOT have kids or making it impossible for couples who are not married to adopt. If you have lived in Hungary, you would know that unless you are rich, the support that the goverment provides does not make the whole situation much easier. The tax break that they give is about 90 EUR a month per kid. Imagine how much this would cover of the monthly expenses you would have. The loan they are talking about is 90.000 GBP for three kids - yes, it's better than nothing but 90.000 GBP for 3 kids is ultimately not that much AND it is a LOAN nonetheless, it is not money that you get for free. No one mentioned that you can only get this loan if you are a married couple and that if you get divorced, you have to pay it back all at one. The last family they showed is not representative of Hungary not because they are a traditional family and have a lot of kids but because they are much richer than the average Hungarian family. I love rich people telling you that people do not have kids because they are liberals - yeah, because financial stability and mental health do not matter at all. Stop blaming non-conservative and LGBTQ+ people for this situation.

@@jaimes350 You do realize that the reason why China had low birth rates is because of their one-child policy right? They have been trying to bring it up but they still need to recover from that, a problem that USA does not have. They lowered their birth rate forcefully and now they are suffering from the consequences. They should not have had such a low birth rate because they are still a developing country as well. Another factor is that many families in China, in response to the one-child policy, killed their daughters because of a preference for boys (more economic opportunity and they wanted sons to carry on family name), and the effects of that is that now, men far outnumber women. That's also why there's so much human trafficking there, it's because finding a wife is so difficult as a poorer man. There will only be as many families as there are women, so that's also why China is facing problems. The consequences of their actions aren't applicable to the USA, in other words.

They in their heart don't want 3 children they just do it for the money and with this money they can step on property ladder. Nice future is ahead of depressed families, unloved children & alcoholism - as we always has this issue anyway. You must mention that these people had to sign a 3 kids in 10 years contact with the government. Also if their marriage brakes they can't get divorced for the rest of their life because they will loose the discount & loan.

@Stuka Obergruppentruppenstuppensturm Children were historically mostly produced for two reasons: heirs for the rulling classes and free labour for everyone else. There's nothing romantic about it. Today children in developed countries are no longer an asset but a liability hence less incentives to procreative.

This is a final and desperate as attempt to keep and grow their demographic as it is, which is understandable. @unicornbuster
@unicornbuster 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, actually some of these are loans. There's the "baby expecting loan" that many people take. It can be up to 10 mil huf(around 33 000$), after two kids you get a 30% off of your debt, after 3, all of it is gone. (if a woman has student loans, she gets some discount after 2 kids and it's deleted after 3 kids as well) There's also the csok but it's a bit more complicated and I'm not very aware of those rules bc for a used property you don't get much money, it's better to buy a new one but it also depends on the size of the property and how many kids you have. It's between 2000 and 33 000$ and if you don't get as many kids as you promised you have to pay it back or something like that.

+Beyonder Is a long term investment. I wouldn't call it a cost thou, as the situation is dire ... with an old demographic and low work force, you are bound to have a serious imbalance, that not only that would cost the state a lot in pensions and burden the working class and young peoples who are left in the country, but could ultimately lead to the collapse of the whole system.. and with a negative birth rate, there is no end to this problem. But with such a program, you create the high possibility that the problem would be solved in 20 years.

Thanks to Hungary. The Polish government also provides funds for children. With governments in the West ever coming up with new taxes, increasing taxes, taking, or should I say grabbing money from families it makes it harder for families. People do not live like the princes at Buckingham Palace. With so many jobs having been shipped to Asia how do families make ends meet. We all get old. And need to think of the future.
