I had just 9 years old when my country (Brasil) won the World Cup. I've watched almost every game of that tournment, even the games being in the dawn for us. Japan/Korea absolutely changed my life, shaped my personality, is one of the sweetiest memories I have. Turkey always been a country that me and many people of my age here respect really much. So the only thing I can say about this is first, people who love football need to watch World Cup as whole, and people who watched this World Cup as a whole need to know who Hakan Sukur is, and secondly, that I respect Sukur really much, not just him but many of that anthologic Turkey team players, such Rustu, Sas Tugay, Mansiz...

He had insane shot power in FIFA 02 (World Cup edition). Good times
@omerselcukcetin7 ай бұрын
I think as a turkish citizen i need to make some things clear. He was really strong, extremely strong and also very good in the air but he missed so much goals in like 6 yard box, sometimes in really easy situations like goaliless goal he was called "Torinolu Şaban" (Şaban from Torino) Şaban being a really silly character portraid by legendary Kemal Sunal in many movies. Reason he had so many chances was that Galatasaray of those days were so good, almost same team without hagi popescu and taffarel won 3rd place in 2002 world cup while Şükür not contributing to any goal until 3rd place match in which he scored the fastest goal of wc history. If he had a little better finishing skills with his feet, he would have even crazier stats in turkish league and maybe he would also succeed in europe. In his time he was never compared to ronaldo btw. Even when he was playing in turkish league, he was missing so much goals every match, commentators would always tell him to look at Vieri as an example to use his feet properly. Şükür was THE pivot centre forward but Vieri perfected it. The political situation he involved in is very complicated. All the turkish players except 2 or 3 in UEFA winning Galatasaray team were members of Gülen Organization and visiting Gülen himself regularly. Gülen is someone claiming to be Anti-Atatürk whom he describes as Deccal which means Anti-Christ and this makes him the Messiah; Jesus Christ. His organization was presented as an islamic religious group to the public which was managed like a corporation by him and his closest. They had their own TV, newspaper, their own BANK!, private high schools, private colleges, exam preperation courses and student dormitories and these were big; schools were best in the country based on student achievements in the exams (later revealed that they were distributing the questions to their best students before the exam because they had agreement with the government to have control over the exam department of the state). I won't go into details about their other activities because the theft in exams show how they act i think. All these assets were acquired through HIMMET (something like charity) collected by religious citizens because Gülen claimed he was fighting against zionist and paganist and all other forces for us, the muslims. I was a student in their prime and even i had 3 subscriptions to their newspaper and 5 subscriptions to a magazine of them. %70-80 people of the country contributed to their insane wealth and power. their members (which i could be count as one back in high school because i earned their scholarship to study in their private college) thought Gülen was someone supernatural, most of them really thought he was Messiah, others like me thought he was a devoted muslim. Erdogan used his image and power ..... Holy hell it is really going to be long. In short Şükür also used Gülen's power to be a high school course while not even attending to anything in parliament instead attending to TV shows about football while being immensely paid by national tv channel TRT :) When Gülen and Erdoğan became enemies, one of the first people to threaten Erdoğan to use their power to bring him down was Şükür. He of course fled the country and always told people to wait for THE BIG CHANGE for years on his streams and videos. Later we realized he was talking about the coup (attempt). TL DR: Erdoğan is dirty but someone like Hakan Şükür is no better. He made himself and all his family extremely Rich using Gülen's power and then lost them because he bet on the wrong horse(Gülen) to be more powerful and rich

Thanks for your shared long and detailed experience. Do you mind to give me more impressions? I'm not living in Turkey, but I have many contacts to german-turkish people and work with refugees, that almost everyone at least lived for a year or even longer in Turkey and other minorities (turkish Kurds/syrian Kurds) that left because of oppression. So all my Information is 'second hand' but reading your comment (everything after 'The political situation...'), I quite thought, "couldn't you just switch names Erdogan/Gülen?". Many german-turkish people here watching turkish state media 24/7 and in their eyes Erdogan comes pretty close to a god. Many of them even have shrines with his fotographs at home and political discussions seem to be impossible, as they act naiv, uncritical and tend to act aggressive. As a german teached our own history on and on I really get some Deja-Vu vibes, seeing this personalised worhsipping of a politician. Everything critical you say(not even saying, just asking) about Erdogan, turkish politics or economy end up "to be a jewish-zionist hoax" Erdogan is fighting against. Meanwhile, people I've met that grew up in a minority in Turkey or Syria, that lived in Turkey but moved on, all of them see Erdogan "as the pure evil". They report about kidnapping children, huge police brutality, the need of conformity in public or otherwise harsh consequences like losing your job/stipendia or even ending up in jail. Now coming back to Hakan Sukur, also Erdogan has his favorites that seem to get extremly rich with the help of his power and influence. In your opinion, is erasing a turkish football legend (and that he is without a doubt) from all history books the right way to handle the situation or wouldn't it be more responsible to ackknowledge his past success but critize him harshly for his off-pitch actions? I mean, there are tons of great footballers, that careers ended early because of criminal actions and some even spending years in prison. Isn't it even a greater way to show that people's action can have consequences and that theres a difference between Hakan Sukur, the football legend and Hakan Sukur, the greedy and maybe corrupt oppositionist?
@omerselcukcetin7 ай бұрын
@@robertsprinke5336 Erasing him from history books is stupidity. But comparing him to players who did something terrible and went to jail for it to someone who made a political mistake is not gonna work i think. When Erdoğan leaves of course Şükür will have his place among legends. Will take time i think. Erdoğan's case is different. He is just a leader, he doesnt have any professions or he is not good at making decisions in economics or politics. He is the one gets votes and some people do the work. Before Gülen incident he had talented people working with him. They were his long-time friends. They were engineers, law professors, people with phd's from USA or UK etc. These talented people helped Turkey's economy get on its way quickly in like 2-3 years after they got elected in 2002, after a devastating crisis in 2001. In their management dollar started at like 1.2 turkish liras and didnt go over 2 liras in 11 years. similar numbers for euro. interests were really low, inflation rate was in decimal numbers. banks got bigger and were able to loan in low interest and normally low income people like teachers, workers, nurses etc were able to buy their houses and cars before even they got to their 30's. I want to tell you about Gülen incident in really short summary before moving on. -In 2010 in an exam with which the government officers were chosen (KPSS), some students realized all the right answers were the alphabetical or numerical middle from 5 options. How did they dare to do something like this, i still can not believe but they did. Many people were arrested. It was Gülen group who did this. Erdoğan didn't touch them because there was an election in following months. They didn't lose any assets but lost reputation. -In 2010 there was a referendum to change law system drastically. In that election Gülen group supported Erdoğan openly and it was won. -In 2011 parliamentary elections Gülen group asked for 80 reserved representative candidates from places that they will surely be elected for compensation against their reputation loss about exam scandal. Parliament at that time had 550 representatives and Ak Parti would occupy like 300-350 of them. Gülen group got like 30 or 35 places, i do not remember the exact number (Şükür was one of them). -After this, they started criticizing Erdoğan and his deputies on their tv and newspaper. They were talking about how they listen to everybody's phones through their men in police force and they know so much about how corrupt is Erdoğan and his deputies but they do not touch them. -in 2012 Erdoğan said exam preperation courses are not necessarry anymore and they will close them. These were very valuable assets for Gülen group because these were where they recruit most of the people when they were young. They were not the only people who have exam preparation courses but this act was against them for sure. -Then in 2012 december police forces who support Güen Group, without ministry's or higher officer's permissions, send men to forcefully enter houses of Erdoğan and almost half of his ministers to take videos to show how lavish their lifestyles are. In those videos they knew about everything about the houses or they planted some safes, we still don't know but a lot of cash money were deposited in each house. -After this Erdoğan fired the ministers whose houses were not raided by Gülen group. Many things happened after this until the coup but this is when he lost his quality deputies and decided to work with his family members and his personal friends or their children etc. After 2013-2014 when Erdoğan replaced everyone who were doing their job and this country is now a mess. Inflation rates are around %80-90, dollar is 30 liras euro is 32 liras. Even if you work for like 30 years as an officer or teacher or worker, you can not afford a proper house. You asked about oppression and things like that but they don't happen actually. The "journalists" who are in jail are members of PKK or YPG or politicians who threaten state with these terrorist organisations. One example Selahattin Demirtaş who was also a member of the parliament organized a meeting with PKK and he told the crowd there to set Diyarbakır's some parts on fire to show the government what they are capable of and the crowd did, he is in jail and he is considered by eurpoeans to be in jail for journalism. Of most of these you can not even find one post published in any newspaper. They say they are journalist because that shows the regime oppressive i think. We do not call them journalists, they are terrorists. Ak Parti has populated the national television TRT with their people so they broadcast about Ak Parti's good doings 24 hours, maybe this is the oppression they talk about i don't know. Ak Parti also populated like every place in state offices with their members (we have 85 million people living in turkey and Ak Parti has 12 million members of 60 million voters in our country). It is not like they fired other people but all the important places are occupied by them. Erdoğan and his friends started very good but now we have a very corrupt regime here. Hope i answered many things you wonder.

Best turkish Football Player Ever Kral Hakan Sükür
@barsdans49507 ай бұрын
Just to clear some things up. Even tough sukur was one of the best maybe the best player turkey ever produced, his relationship with gulen movement is not innocent as video suggests.Gulen put all followers of his movement into high levels of government, going as far as stealing the whole university exam and highschool exam for couple years, giving exam questions in his schols before exam took place, so people would sign their kids into his schools. In those schools additonal to usual education, kids were forced to pray and study islam as well. Because teachers of those schools was not proper teachers, just inadequate graduates from teaching departmens who are followers of gulen movement, many child were harmed because abuses happened quite frequently. Not to mention gulen movement stole future of a whole generation by leaking exams to their own students. Gulen movement also blackmailed lots of people from turkish army with higher rankings in order to make them quit so his followers can get into those ranks. Soldiers who refused to quit were put in prison then many of them commited suicide. Long story short, they did everything they can in order to gain more power and more positions. Every Gulen movement member is guilty of this. They knew what they were doing. And if you think that erdogan is extremist and gulen is more progressive i suggest you to watch one of gulens speeches. PS: Not an erdogan supporter hate them both equally.

@@kaan4040 Isn't it amusing how this so-called 'terrorist organization' is seen as a joke outside Turkey? Developed countries refuse to acknowledge it. And to top it off, you blame the Gulen movement for the championship! The Gulen movement has been sidelined in Turkey for the past decade. How could Galatasaray be champions recent years and Fenerbahçe not? It's best not to comment on matters you clearly know nothing about."
@kaan40407 ай бұрын
@@bilallarik6088 also Galatasaray has been Champion only 3 times since 2016, while Fener has won none mostly thanks to the 3 Temmuz incident conducted by Fetö that led to Fener having a Debt of 600 Million by 2018. You have no Idea of Turkish Football or Politics, I mean even the Galatasaray Board is currently calling Fenerbahces President a Project of Fetö and accusing the Club of being Fetocu.

you are 100% right. gulen organization was a corrupted organization with lots of power including governing the country with erdogan. and when their benefits clashed they tried to coup the government (that is when they killed 251 citizens) they were islam extremists and used their private schools to hire their new members while they were still young. and I am saying these as a one of the biggest erdogan haters so don't think like I am hating them because I liked erdogan, he is as guilty as them if not more.

Holy shit what a great story, thank you Daily! I remember him from the 2000 euros and 2002 WC really well, and that amazing world class Galatasaray, but this story with Erdogan becoming a dictator connecting was fascinating and sad. The darkness won’t last forever though, great man Hakan Sükür

Is Erdogan a dictator? Can you say that as a fact? If so can you explain that why?
@xmoose97 ай бұрын
@@oguzhan9424He de facto is close. He repressed his opposition, he expanded his power beyond the law, he messed badly with Turkish economy resulting really badly. Yeah he still won the election which is by authoritarian standards quite moderate but I suspect some rigging too given the history of his later years. He’s an autocrat moving towards being a dictator.
@oguzhan94247 ай бұрын
@@xmoose9 Please explain with examples how Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repressed his opposition. The Turkish presidential system is new and needed some the necessary tweaks. Every major change has been voted for or a referendum has been held. So your statement "HE expanded his power beyond the law" is a LIE! I quote; "He messed badly with Turkish economy resulting badly". How did you made this up? For example isnt GDP and PPP the best leavers to determine in what shape your economy is? If so when ever did Turkiye had a total GDP of over $1.350.000.000.000? When did Turkiye ever stood as the 17th greatest economy worldwide? Turkiye has a PPP of over $44.000. It is above Italy and below France standing 11th worldwide! When did Turkiye ever had a higher PPP? Do you even know how Turkish economy was before Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan? You talk about elections but still need to add words like "authoritarian" and "I suspect some rigging too". Can you proof the rigging? As last you stated "He’s an autocrat moving towards being a dictator". But in fact you accused an elected president for something he isn’t! So this whole thing you wrote here is just to make someone look bad? So that’s the way how you live life? You get sattisfaction out of spreading hate and lie’s. Im very curious if you can come with anything that proves me wrong. I have proven you that you are wrong with every word you had to say in this topic. If you reply, make it count!

Mr. Daily Dose of Football. Im from Turkey and we never deny his football legacy. Once upon a time we called him as "King". But some political issues and some of Hakan Sukur's religious terror activities made him as a trator. I tell you these with my very best noble honesty. He is a football legend but a political traitor against Turkish government. If they were victorious this country will be a home for islamic terror. As someone from Turkey, this is a pretty nice an in depth video, however one criticism I have is that it does somewhat downplay the Gülenists' destructive influence on the country. For all intents and purposes, they were an extragovernmental entity that had infiltrated the state, initially with full permission from the Erdoğan regime and created a network of individuals in high-up positions, essentially acting as a secondary ruling party. Them and the AKP (Erdoğan's party) were two sides of the same shitty coin and anyone with a modicum of sense would stand by the prosecution of Gülenists. The sad part is that this prosecution was conducted by the AKP to cover up its own terrible shortcomings and to cement power. It is also worth bearing in mind that this widespread Gülenist influence was also present in Turkish football, and even the current TFF president has had ties with Gülen, causing a clear Galatasaray-favored bias, leading to things such as the 2011 match-fixing case which was proven to be a frame-job, an armed assault on the Fenerbahçe team bus some years later whose culprits were never found, all the way to the most recent Trabzonspor match, where the fans' assault on the Fener players were met with next to no resistance from the on-field security apparatus. Galatasaray currently continues to clandestinely act as the footballing extension of the AKP government as well as being supported by the Gülenists who have managed to avoid detection. And the sad part to all of this is that as long as the Erdoğan regime maintains power in one shape or the other, these underground interactions will remain under the rug.

He decided to leave his great football legacy and became Erdoğan's political toy. He turned a blind eye to Erdogan's corruption, persecution of the opposition and so much more. He was comfortable, powerfull, he was set to become the minister of sports under Erdoğan's government but he chose the wrong side, sided with Gulenists and lost his legacy. I hate the both parties involved in it (Gulen and Erdogan), and Sukur is not blameless. He knew what he was doing, he should not have let them use his legacy for politics but he did.
