i think it’s a totally solid bag. like you said OG fans/customers of the row are super confused as to how this bag became trendy considering the fact that it is made to be “trend proof”. i do believe the bag will stand the test of time because the people who have always wanted a birkin are not going to just settle for a Margaux. it won’t get over saturated bc even though the row has proven to be of quality and technically made well, people are loyal to their brands. I don’t think anything can truly be the next birkin but this bag will quietly remain a staple amongst handbag conversations.

Really like the Margaux bag, the design of the Birkin feels very heavy and old to me. One could say "old money", but I personally think it's just old and I've seen it so much now I'm kind of sick of it. I prefer the style of the Kelly and the Margaux is kind of a very sleek, simple mixture of both and I tend to the Margaux bag as I like neutrals on bags. Also the game Hermès plays has just become ridicilous.

YES. I feel the hype Cassie mentioned is really for the Birkin--everyone has one, and wears it the same way on social media. My bestie works at Apple and it's during her lawyer conventions that we get a real sense of style when we see how other professionals wear their Birkins, which is so inspiring! I was never a fan (though think it looks great on others) and the Row Margaux was perfect for me when it came out a few years ago and still is. It comes down to style, to what you like, and being able to discern the hype from the marketing and PR.

My initial impression is this looks very much like a Coach tote I purchased in the 90’s, not that it was inexpensive then, but the quality was timeless and it worked for a myriad of purposes.

I have multiples of both Birkins and Margauxs. They are both leather double top handle bags. That’s the end of the similarities. I will say that both bags are beautifully made. The leathers used by The Row are outstanding. No complaints. Not everyone wants to walk into a room and have their handbag clocked. Birkins are no longer understated. The Margaux is. The Margaux is great hybrid between a tote and a more structured bag, and I truly enjoy the function of it over a Birkin. The people I’ve seen that are all up in arms about the comparison seem to be the ones that aspired to own a Birkin and are now not enjoying the competition. I can understand their frustration, I suppose, but that’s more a problem of why did they buy a Birkin in the first place?

I own 3 the row bags I love them all, I use them all the time, but I just don’t like the Margaux bag, it supposed to be my bag, cuz I love Boston style bags, like the speedy for example, and it got too handle and shoulder straps too, just the glazing kinda turn me off, I feel like it will cause issues in the long run. FINALLY! Sending you a huge hug! I have wondered am I just the odd ball with the amount of 'it' bag reviews. A year ago I bought one and was so excited to receive it. Got it and immediately knew nope, not for me. SHORT version I found it awkwardly wide, shapeless and difficult to use even with trying an insert. Thankfully I was able to get a return.

I agree that it probably won't be a major classic - it doesn't have the heritage to prop it up long term and I think the cloth lining in the bigger sizes really lessens the heirloom appeal. So maybe it's more Garden Party than Birkin?

I think I'll stick with my BV cabat. I agree that the Margeaux feels like a quality bag (hands-on in store), but it just reminded me of the Bally Sommet tote, which was around way earlier, has the added benefit of a optional flap for adde privacy/security, and a shoulder strap at every size. "Well-made" is also relative... I take my Cabat in work trips, but will switch to my vintage Mulberry Bayswater in more casual situations. Both are quality bags that will last and age well, but also age differently; something I consider when investing in something long-term. Agree with everyone here about being annoyed with copycats at this level/price range.

The thing about the Birkin and the Kelly was that they were so highly connected to the it-girls of their time. They wore them all the time, making the bag a part of their appeal as famous and beautiful women who inspire others. Celebrity fashion just doesn't work like that any more, we don't have that mainstream style icons because we have so many celebrities now, and they rarely wear a bag more than a couple of times. No bag lives on a famous arm long enough to become that iconic.

The Margaux is a wonderful, simple, practical, well-made everyday handbag. Why it's being compared to a Birkin is beyond me. It doesn't look like a Birkin, it costs far less, and you certainly don't have to go on a journey to obtain one - although thanks to all the media attention, it's hard as heck to find the size 12 at the moment and I've "journeyed" all over the internet. I, for one, hope The Row keeps the Margaux as a staple in its brand offerings. I hope the hype tempers somewhat so I can get another one. I don't understand the comparison to the Birkin. I just don't see it.

I don’t have an Hermes bag, but there are many other bags that could compete with Hermes and that is not one. If some of these bags did not have big names attached to them, they would not even be desired. That includes Hermes. I would take the Ralph Lauren Rickey before I took that bag.

I've tried on this bag at the department store in various sizes and leathers and it's a firm no for me. 1) for the smaller 10/12 size the base is so wide it juts out a lot when worn as a crossbody & shoulder bag. 2) the craftsmanship on the top corners are curvy and as new bags they have already been curled in a lot. I can see over time they will curl in even more which will make the shape wonky over time? 3) the smooth leathers of all their bags were badly scratched on the shelves of a high end department store and they are supposed to be "new?" hello...?!!! 4) I''m not sure whether the shape will hold up well over time including getting curly at the top. Personal opinion on the craftsmanship compared to Hermes...on the Constance, the corners are finished well and not like curly fries to the point I can use the corner as a bowl (okay over exaggeration) but maybe as a spoon. Sorry I really tried to love this bag as the leather is indeed beautiful but the design just puts me off when I see those corners (they look like they were sewed on too tight or whatever is causing the curling), the scratched up leather. and just how big the base is even for the smaller bags - I know I will accidentally hit ppl when I'm on my subway commute. The bags look great and i'm sure the leather is fabulous but definitely a firm no for me as much as I wanted to like it.

There will never be another Birkin but...Hermes Birkin. The Olsen sisters, famously in love with Hermes bags, used the hype surrounding them to push a bag they could produce and sell. Very smart! I love my Birkins as per their different textures, materials and will stick to them for many many years! Hermes has and never will be a trend ;)

Even the birkin is not the birkin anymore. I think what made bags iconic was the fact that those women who carried those bags were always seen with them for years. The jane birkin , grace kelly, lady di, audry hepburn all carried that one bag for ever! We see them we see the bag. Nowadays celebs and influencers are rarely seen with the same bag twice. The bags are a backdrop for the videos and never really used. And all we see are unboxing and then they show up on worst purchase of the year list.

Hello. I want to say that I have a single Row bag that I love, adore, and wear often. BUT, the bag has begun peeling (Banana bag-around the zip and near seam at the bottom). I’ve noticed people in recent years increasingly complaining about similar issues with various brands. I’m not in any hurry to acquire another.

I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...

I was shocked when I saw the Prada copy. I was like - come on Prada! This just makes me like them less and for years I thought Prada bags were the best out there. Sigh 😔 also, I did buy the Margaux 15 in cognac and I ended up returning. It’s a beautiful bag but can’t see it for anything other than going to the office which I don’t do 😂

I've considered buying the 15 too - saw it in person and agree with you that it seemed like a bag to carry to the office or even an overnight type bag. As much as I like the style, I couldn't justify the price, not going to an office. Also it looked more basic than I wanted it to in black grained leather.

I think it's more about the PR & gifting that The Row does. They have a huge program but no one actually says they're being gifted and it seems to have stepped up this past year. The prices are out of control imo because their CPU must be $100 max and their markup is huge. Prada has a very similar style in the 90s so I think they have just updated it and Ferragamo had a very similar bag in the 90s as well.

I get what you are saying. I do think it HAS become iconic as a quiet luxury bag, and now, with all the pretenders to the throne, they have only cemented its position. It was the original. It looks like The Row has it as their staple. Whenever you dress quality minimalist and casual, it will fit the bill. Let the other brands slap their logos on their copies front and center. They have instantly defeated the intent.

I like the Margaux 15 but it is a work bag or a bag that is used as a tote. If you need a big bag to carry a lot like a neverfull…..I think it is a nice option- who said this was the next Birkin. The Olsen twins have a look they like- even when they carried their well worn giant Birkins or giant Balenciaga bags- the bags looked big and rather slouchy very relaxed look that is not for everyone. Is The Row touting this as the next Birkin ? You are correct in that it would certainly take decades to make a statement like that as fact .

Would be interesting to research how long it took for the Birkin to become the classic it is. Did it instantly catapult to classic or start as a trend. Its been around for 50+ years so maybe these things take alot of time.

I like The Row because I do like neutral colors, and I like their beige and browns. But I will wait until there are more pre-loveds on the market. I think journalists are in need of new topics and new copy and that’s where a lot of this comes from. They are also saying Row is more accessible at a lower price point than pre-loved Birkins and Kelly’s. I think that’s why they keep saying it’s the new Birken but of course it’s not.😊

The reason I’m thinking about getting it is I own a social media agency, so I’m tugging my 15 in MacBook Pro with me half the time, so I want to invest in a nice work bag. One time I was in Miami working at a coffee shop all day and had my tie dye backpack to carry my laptop, I had a dinner res at a nice restaurant nearby and the lady didn’t want to give me a table, I’m guessing because my husband and I had backpacks. I could get a tote or a briefcase, but to me it wouldn’t look as nice as something like this taking it into a restaurant. Meeting with clients, I want something luxury, but not too logo heavy. I thought about a birkin for my work bag, but I heard they are very heavy at that size esp with a large laptop. I heard this bag is more lightweight, but still good quality. I think the bag has range because it can be used as a laptop bag, but can still styled in a more dressed up edgy way.
