This is a really important conversation. I’ve been in Asia for 10 years with the military, have lived outside of the US for almost 20 years of my 63 years, and I agree that life in the US has become one of the most stressful lifestyles in the world. Everything is based on “success” defined by money, but less than 10% of the population can actually claim monetary success relative to the required income; most are barely making it, and very few can retire comfortably these days. But in these “poor” countries, where social programs are abundant, most people have the essentials, and so they don’t feel poor and stressed. I am always impressed with most of these country’s national healthcare systems, but it’s impossible to get that passed in the US Congress. Misinformation is rampant in the US because there are very few actual journalists on top with credentials, and talk show hosts who scam the public for monetary and power gain are prevalent. Politicians are all about earning campaign funds and personal gain rather than spending their time solving problems. The US is in serious trouble, and there are many other places where life might be less material, but much more quality based.

Two points: he says “there is something in the water” So true, and it ain’t Mango juice. US is turning into the next big “s**t hole. And I do love my country. His other comment is the same one I use “the atmosphere is “chill” in the Philippines. Stress level is very low. Happiness level is pretty high. Good interview Mark.

Hello Mark, my name is Ted, I think I've watched most of your videos and I particularly enjoyed hearing Joe's story. I can relate to Joe's story and reasons for relocating to the Philippines. I currently live in Houston and the same things that have been happening in Los Angeles, have been going on here in Houston. I'm too married to a Filipina who is from Leyte and who is now a US Citizen. I had the privilege of previously living and working full time in the Philippines for 10 + years and we are now on a trajectory for returning to the Philippines to live out my life. For me living in the Philippines is a no brainer. I love the culture, people, food, and entertainment, and most importantly for the investment opportunities to help supplement my retirement nest egg and live my life to the fullest. I currently own rental property in Metro Manila and in Cebu and by the way have fully furnished units available right now, if any of your followers are needing a new place to live. I would love to share my story with you sometime and get connected to your community...

I am a retired nurse and i have taken care of patients with mental illness in the past. The closing of mental institutions happened during the time of Reagan. It is so sad because they cannot defend nor fight for themselves . Somehow they are the ignored and no funding allotted for them. If they kept the mental institutions at least they have a place to go. They need help and medications. They end up homeless and they also commit crimes because of their mental illness. The movie ''Joker ''is an example of how difficult it is for mentally ill people in the US.

And I don't even get everything that I used to get. Fish that used to be $7.99 a pack, now it's $19.99. Rice that used to be $9.99 now it's $16.99. 3 lbs of chicken wings $19.99. When I started gardening in 2010, the 100 feet heavy-duty garden hose was $7.99. Then it went up to $9.99, then $19.99 to $29.99 to $39.99 last year and the quality is not good. Today the 100 feet garden hose medium duty is $59.99 and it's out of stock. Clearance prices for out of season clothing used to be $1 to $5, now it's from $7 and up. Gas was $4 a gallon but the news yesterday said $7 a gallon nationwide.

I notice that filipinos who have been in the US like I had (I got divorced last 2015, back to Philippines in 4th qtr 2018, coming from San Diego, CA where I stayed for 2 years) - they seem to have a denial complex. They try to paint a rosy picture posting their stuff but I know for a fact having lived around the US for almost 30 years and worked in Special Education/Early Intervention (social work-related) that everything is not OK as they try to show. This presents a problem because even my sibling here find it hard to believe what I tell them. They just think I have a dark cloud hanging over my head.

I live in Orange County, CA. And Yes, there's a huge homeless issue here. Before it was just one or two you would see on the streets and it was always the same transient. Now you see new ones pop up almost every day. What's really sad is the increase in those who are elderly. A lot of people would say they need to move to a cheaper state to live. Well, take a look at KZbin; some of the less expensive states have a huge homeless issue. Mark there is no way anyone can make it here in CA when renting a 1 bed / 1 bath apt will cost you $1,800 a month and if you want to buy a house forget it unless mommy & daddy gave you a loan as a down payment on a $600-$700K house. their

Hi Mark, I enjoyed this interview very much. I wish for Joe and his wife more happiness and more quality to their daily life in the Philippines or wherever they currently reside. On Philippines accepting refugees ... yes, If I may add on to that. Philippines accepted approx 5,000-6,000 "white Russian" refugees. They were the Russian persecuted by the "Red Russians" in 1917, They fled to China and when China became a communist country, they fled again in 1945-1949 to Tubabao (near Samar), Philippines. We also accepted 1,300 european jews (more than Schindler's List) prior to WWII (1935-1941). Boat people (Vietnamese) - 400,000 in 1980-1991, they camped in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Many of these refugees have been given citizenships in the US, Aus, and some other countries. in 2013, during the super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) ... it was heart warming that many of these refugees , in their own personal efforts have sent donations and relief good to typhoon victims. In 2019 - the jewish refugees - "AN OPEN DOOR" movie (documentary) was launched in the U.S.. Some jewish refugees who were still living and some who were not were represented by their children and grandchildren, came to the Philippines for a commemorative ceremony in Malacanang palace with then Pres. Duterte and his admin. During typhoon Yolanda, many of these refugees have put their hands together to send relief goods to the affected area. I am very proud how my country, the Philippines. Hospitality goes very deep. It's in our cores, DNA. It is in our heartbeat. We are sensitive (in a good way), nurturing, mild mannered, but not to be provoked bcoz the inner fighter knows how to fight and defend itself.

America is having a battle of Ideology .. It happens every so often . Last time was 60 years ago . The Leftists have corrupted teh top 5 % of big business , Government , Entertainment , Media . Most Americas silent Majority has finally found out the reality under Biden and teh Democrat majority (razor Thin ) Teh 2022 Mid terms will be a major reset in America back to sanity . Then 2024 we will rid ourselves of Liberalism for generations . Freedom has its price and we are having the battle right now . We will overcome and America will be the City on teh hill again. Liberalism is a mental disease and it flourishes when life was easy . from the fall of the Soviet union in 1991 America became Perverse / We need adversity to keep our mental and morality compus straight . A few more years and America will get straight t again

One of my favorite interviews, likely because I agree with alot of what he said. I live in the NW of the U.S. Portland and Seattle used to be one of the most beautiful cities in the country but now they are ugly ridden by homeless, trash, business suffering from smash and grab, antifa terrorists rioting destroying business as well. The list goes on and on. Feels like there isn’t anywhere you can move in the U.S to escape this. So so sad 😞. .

Back in the 80s the homeless in Los Angeles were only in skid row where I used to park to go to the city buildings where I used to work. The last time I was there in L.A. a year ago, as Joe said the homeless are everywhere. If he lived let's say in San Bernardino, I've seen some homeless guys who will just lay down in your front yard and sleep.

i have a funny story. Met an American once in a bar owned by a german guy who was my good friend's step dad. We had one too many, it turned out we had the same first names. I have a second name and turned out he had the same exact second name, he goes, "you must be shitin me", then I go, 'what are the chances that your birthday was (my birth date)', then we exchanged IDs, lo and behold, we have the same first and second name, same birth days. The most mind blowing thing that ever happened to both of us. ahahahaha He was much older though. Never saw him again after that. That probably never happens. The likelihood is almost impossible. We had a very good conversation much like this. Could never forget that experience.

like to go outside "temporarily" to work and save (because it can be accomplished much easier/faster") and then go back before the retirement or upon retirement to enjoy the fruits of their hard-earned labor while still working as a business owner - and knows what? they have their children (small ones) grow in the country they work and have them also do the same "cycle" for the betterment of their generations. family is number 1 in the Phils. :))
