I noticed one thing with my driving when it comes to braking. At the beginning my brake bias was more towards the rear, under 50, as I needed it to turn the car in. But I've learned that this was due to bad trail braking and releasing the brake too soon. Then I started to learn how to brake really till the apex, and I needed to move the brake bias well over 50, as otherwise I would loose the rear, but I still got a nice turn in with brake bias more towards the front, as I was braking later. But then I noticed that really good drivers have brake bias more to the back while still braking till the apex, so I noticed that I need to move it back again and include fine controls on the steering wheel to prevent losing the rear while braking. Maybe it is just me, but I think this is quite a normal journey and also one indicator to see where you are currently.

I think this is a great comment it also depends which car you drive. but having a very low brake bias does say a lot about your pedal imput and precision!

Hi Arnout First of all thanks - very valuable content! One thing: At around 10:39 you say that increasing (+/positive) the toe value will result in the wheels facing outwards and helps rotation - isn't that the other way round? Of what I understood increasing the toe is exactly the opposite. Means positive values are toe-out, which gives stability but less turn in, both at the front and at the back. Except that at the back there is almost never negative toe-in as this makes the car very hard to drive - too much oversteer. KR Marc

Having 2-3 km/h higher speed at the apex doesn't necessarily translate into carrying those 2-3 km/h for the whole next straight because no car can pull a constant acceleration. For a low-speed corner like Spa T1 the difference is going to be negligible and it is much more important to nail Eau Rouge/Raidillon there
@SimracingArnout11 ай бұрын
Oh well maybe i should have picked a better example.. i found that super fast racers are hitting 240 or higher right after Eaurouge/Raidillon, because they nail turn 1 perfectly
@codenamegaming638411 ай бұрын
Eaurouge/Raidillon some ride at full throttle completely. I don't know how fast I am there, if I stay at full throttle I lose the car or go off track. No matter how often I try For me, this is unbelievable - actual. :) great video

One small lift you need still, i driven over a 1000 laps on spa, at some point you will get there!
@blacklabmotors215411 ай бұрын
@@SimracingArnout No, it's likely because they drive the perfect line through that sequence with as minimal steering as possible. Excessive steering in very fast flat out corners likes that robs you of the exit speed, so the less you turn the wheel the faster you are on exit. Nailing fast corners is where the most gains can be made, having an extra couple of km/h on exit there does translate into quite tangible delta improvements. But that of course applies only when you're at a certain proficiency level, and until that it's slow corners where people often lose tons of time because they completely screw them up, usually by driving a bad line through them and losing time in the corner itself.

EDIT Hey, Sorry for not giving you the track I'm struggling with. I'm having trouble getting faster than 1.49.6's. At Kyalami in the dark. I just cant seem to see the breaking point at the top of rise to left. It's blind and approache is very fast. And sorry cant name corner's, one that's kinda a double apex you take in 3rd by holding right side then turn in. Its before downhill S bend. I take that corner in 2nd then I spin and can't understand how it's done in 3rd. I watched the video with the McLaren and your so fast.and good car control, I still spin trying in 3rd 🚗💨 what would you suggest? I've spent hours going backwards lol. It's been one of those days. Sorry I'm using a G923

My apologies I tried to Edit. It's been one of those days where you just go backwards Haha. Struggling with Kyalami and cant see how you take that bend in 3rd. I do it in 2nd and spin, tried 3rd and spun. And the breaking point on up hill selection is hard as you arrive! Turn left for down hill is sweet. Sorry I can't name the corners... I'll be in the dark so that's not helpful. 🤣😅

Am I supposed to drift with the brake when entering certain turns?
@SimracingArnout11 ай бұрын
Very slighty yes!, but when the front bites during braking the rear is very light so it doest wear the tires, if you lose control.. to much steering input or to much brake power, or to low brake bias... complicated sorry
@one980211 ай бұрын
I understand. Thank you
@rankisdumb21411 ай бұрын
Look up slip angle and trail braking! The fastest guys create rotation with their braking input vs steering inputs! Master trail braking and you'll start gaining lap time in heaps. Spa is one of my worst tracks. When I started I was doing like 2:22 today under normal racing conditions 2:17/2:18. The super fast laptimes you see are often hot laps with low fuel, cool temperatures and max grip! When a track says optional that doesn't mean it has max grip! A race with 40 cars putting rubber down on the track will create a much faster track then a race with 10 cars! Especially if it's an endurance race! Many times my fastest lap times are my last few laps.
