Wanda Maximoff is the great tragic hero of the MCU. Orphaned, used by HYDRA, used by Ultron, then scapegoated by the world. She was heroic enough to sacrifice the person she loved while fighting off an insane demigod with five infinity stones. This woman is one of the greatest heroes in the MCU, and yet she’s been vilified by fans.
In this video we explain why the events of Westview and WandaVision were not her fault, and that she is a victim of Agatha, the Darkhold, and the prejudice of the world around her.

#MultiverseOfMadness #WandaVision #ScarletWitch
Wanda Maximoff is accused of taking Westview and its residents hostage. They say that her pain and grief didn’t justify her actions.
And sure, if you chose to look at things from that point of view, you might assume that Wanda did something highly immorale. You are of course entitled to your opinion, but that opinion makes you wrong. And that’s also dissrimination.
There is one undeniable truth, and it’s this: Wanda did nothing wrong.
And we have proof. This evidence shows that there are many mitigating factors that prove that Wanda is absolutely not at fault, that she is the real victim, and she is the greatest hero in the MCU. And no, I’m not being sarcastic, this video is 100% unbiased and honest.
This is the case of Wanda Maximoff v the people. And the evidence that proves, without any shadow of a doubt, that she did absolutely nothing wrong.
The inciting incident that led to the controversy is the Westview event. The accusation is that in her grief and pain, Wanda took over an entire town to create her own reality. That she held the residents of Westview hostage, controlling their mind to maintain her fantasy. And that the Hex was threatening the town and the rest of the world.
But that’s all mostly hearsay.
You see context matters, and the context is that there is a lot more to this story than it seems.
Some people run away from their problems. Like Tony Stark, who never accepted responsibility for all the bad things he had done. It was his missile that killed Wanda’s parents. It was Ultron, his creation, that killed Pietro. And his guilt made him misguided and righteous, as he spear-headed the Sokovia Accords, and those caused the Avengers to disassemble. And that is the reason why they lost against Thanos. And more importantly, it is the reason why Vision died. Twice. It’s all Tony Stark’s fault, he is the antagonist in Wanda’s story.
And did Tony ever apologize to Wanda for all the evil he caused her? Nope. Why? Because Tony runs away from his problems, and his guilt keeps blundering things for everyone else.
Unlike Tony, Wanda didn’t run away from her grief. She created a pocket reality, where she could deal with her pain in a healthy and mostly harmless way. She didn’t get to say goodbye to Vision, she needed proper closure, that’s what the Hex was all about.
It wasn’t about Wanda taking a whole town hostage, not at all.
I mean sure, those people didn’t agree to become part of Wanda’s reality-warping-therapy, but it wasn’t like Wanda hurt them or anything.
Let’s put things in perspective here, did Peter Parker and Doctor Strange ask the world if it wanted to be brainwashed? No. This self-centered teenager wanted to erase the world’s memory just so he could get into college. And these two dumb-dumbs almost broke reality because of their terrible communication skills.
They did it without asking anyone, because they were so high on their power that they thought themselves to be gods.
And oh yeah, Steven, we didn’t forget about you buddy. Don’t you worry, we are going to roast your magical butt very soon.
And did the residents of Westview have such a bad experience? Wanda entertained them with magic shows, dinners, they celebrated Halloween. This guy was unemployed before all of this, and Wanda gave him a job. That’s the problem with people nowadays, they always focus on the negative, forgetting about the good times.
Wanda is not some tyrant that invaded a small town. Wanda had no idea that what she’s doing might be causing anyone harm. She is a victim of her own magic, and of Agahta’s manipulations.
[clip] Some might use this moment as proof that Wanda was well aware of what she was doing.
But in truth Wanda was dealing with intruders. Vision bought the house in Westview, which makes Wanda a legal resident. Sword spied on her, they invaded her privacy, they even attacked her. She had both the moral and legal right to protect her home.

This video has to be a satire of the pro-Wanda arguments. She didn’t confront her grief. Taking a thousand people hostage in order to create a pocket reality where she could pretend that Vision was still alive is the epitome of emotional avoidance and denial. Definitely not a healthy approach to managing and overcoming grief. Wanda’s actions were intensely criminal.

Bottom line: none of those residents gave their consent to be a part of Wanda's town changing therapy session. Also, to say Wanda and Vision were intruded on is short sighted. @@higharmknew2grandmar106 My biggest frustration with WandaVision was that in a show that was so much about dealing with trauma and having empathy for people with trauma, it also chose to use Monica (someone who was traumatized) to essentially mark the other people hurt at Westview as if they are ungrateful for what Wanda has sacrificed for them. The implication being that victimized people would be grateful to their victimizer if only they knew what the victimizer went through and “sacrificed” is kinda a slap in the face for me, especially in a show that painstakingly tried to paint a story of empathy for traumatized people. Wanda should be sympathized with, Wanda deserves better, Wanda’s trauma explains what she does and is incredibly understandable and she is not a villain no matter what some other people try to paint her as, however it really jarred me that a show that was so much about empathy, had a moment essentially throwing other traumatized people under the bus. It didn’t need to be there, that moment, and for me it undermined the message of the show. Not enough to ruin the show or make me hate Wanda or whatever, but enough to make me wonder if the folks at Marvel really care about how they portray stories of trauma, or is it just we should only care about trauma when it’s happening to the main characters. But this is kinda a pattern that I personally have felt from Marvel shows, that they continuously end up undermining their main message. I had the same issues with the messaging in TFATWS and Hawkeye as well.

@@higharmknew2grandmar106 But anyways, that’s not the fault of Wanda though, and I love WandaVision giving her the humanity and complexity she deserves and it is so freaking weird to see some people so vehemently angry or hateful about her given that most of the MCU heroes have also had plenty of blood on their hands and made mistakes and that even includes the deified icon that is Steve Rogers. Wanda’s complexity doesn’t make her a villain and she’s not a villain. Even without knowing all the years in the comics of her with the West Coast Avengers, it’s clearly obvious that Wanda even in the movies alone, is not villainous. She’s traumatized and yes sometimes that trauma leads her to do questionable things, but that’s not villainy. CONTEXT MATTERS. I think a lot of people are so quick to put characters into good or bad labels that they forget characters can be both, just like people in real life can be both. It also honestly does scare me how often that trauma and mental health issues is essentially equated/demonized to villainy in media and in society.

But did she really get away scot free? What happens in one MCU show/movie has repercussions further down the line. So while Wanda may not have had any consequences at the end of WandaVision, it doesn’t mean there are no consequences. That is what the MCU brings us, a show that doesn’t end with the show and that ties in with a larger narrative further down the line.

I don't know man. Wanda is one of my favourite characters and I really love the psychological characterisation they gave her. I don't condone the "enslaving" as you say, but I think that what she did was pretty human. I lost my dad when I was little and let me tell you, I spent way too much time daydreaming about a life where he was still alive (and then I started therapy, as Wanda probably should do as well). What I am saying is that everyone copes in a different way and I can't really blame Wanda for what she did after all the pain she went through. She just fell deep down and, hitting the ground (when she saw the non-existent house she was supposed to live with Vision), her powers did everything. I believe that she only had the need to re-elaborate everything and she was not aware of the harm she was causing to the people of Westview. I think that anyone with Wanda's power could and probably would've like to do it. The same pocket-reality without mind-controlled people wouldn't be that bad, in my opinion (even though, at some point, she has to realise and accept Vision's death).

That is true! At the end of IW, Vision's body lay lifeless on Wakandan soil. All we had left of the Avengers were Cap, Banner, War Machine, Black Widow and Thor. I can see Cap taking the body of a fallen comrade home for burial, but I don't see him turning him over to the government, with or without Tony's permission. (Tony created Ultron who created Vision, I guess I see a chain of "ownership"). I think the dissection did start earlier, probably during the Blip. It is hard to dismantle something made of the strongest metal on Earth. (Especially if you are secretly trying to study it to put it back together). My big question is why the US government decided they needed such a big agency like SWORD anyway? I mean, how many intelligent weapons are there that the USA puts together this giant agency just as a "Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division". Is that all they do, look around for smart weapons? And what kind of "Response" are they supposed to do if they find one? lol

I'm not saying Wanda's amazing and all that. But for people to say she's evil for having emotions and letting them flow out in to the world is absurd. Wanda has powers that affect reality. And because she's still quite young. Her emotions and her powers act according to one another, sometimes without much control. Wanda has been losing loved ones for long. And her powers gave her a safe place to deal with them. Yes, she held people hostage and at some point she knew. But she didn't know how the spell worked, and how her mind leacked into the other people's minds. Did Wanda do something good. No. Is she a terrorist vilian who wants people to suffer. No. But her powers are very hard to operate. And she needs guidence. (which she only got from Agatha at the literal end of the show). What I'm saying is that Wanda needs some compassion and guidence, which are going to help her restrain herself from acting the way she did in the show. She's not a hero, but she's not a monster either.

I honestly really thought the guy was trolling because of how pathetically weak his argument is. Almost half of the video was talking about the topics that honestly didn't matter to what she did and doesn't justify anything. If anything, even if Dr. Strange and Iron Man are wrong and evil, then it still doesn't make her right as well, right? If anything, it just makes all of them wrong and evil which still doesn't excuse a dead loved one. I'm sorry, it must hurt losing someone but that is the objectively wrong way of approaching "mourning". But that is one of the reasons her character is so compelling and polarizing. So morally wrong, yet scarily human no matter how you look at it. I'd honestly call her quite similar to another character (even down to them wanting to reunite with their loved one in any way possible) which is Otto Apocalypse from Honkai.

Morally questionable? You're being like the Scarlet Witch fans that thinks what Scarlet Witch did isn't wrong. Peter didn't ask any college institutions that rejected them to reconsider. Strange agreed in doing the spell even if it would mean they'll tamper with reality. Brainwashed the whole world. Didn't ask the kid first what exactly is it that he wants. Listened to Peter even if he never tampered a spell before. Sure, forgetting something is the lesser evil between the two but you can't justify that just because it's the lesser evil between the two. One of the things that I really dig about all of the Disney+ series so far is that there is much more moral ambiguity. The Flag Smashers in FATWS do have a point: people had been moving on for 5 years and taking that away overnight is a bit messed up. He Who Remains in Loki may actually have been right that the TVA was the lesser of two evils. And how much was Wanda and how much was Agatha was never clearly delineated. Compare the Disney+ moral ambiguity with someone like the Red Skull or Hydra or Thanos and they were much more one-dimensional in their villainy by comparison.

You can't defend someone's actions by comparing them to others. Otherwise everyone would just be compared to Stalin or Mao and be told they did nothing wrong. It was not her property that she was defending as she took over the town by force. Just because someone wronged her and she's a victim doesn't mean she has a free pass to wrong others. Similarly just because she did something good doesn't then mean they can then do something bad. She let the town go not because she became aware of their grief, pain and torment but rather that the townsfolk were suddenly free to complain about it to her face. The family she created wasn't "real" so that did count towards her breaking reality (you seem to need to do some pretty extreme things in order to meat your definition of bad/wrong). It's not Dc Strange's job to monitor or coach her it's Wong's. Everything that was said can also be applied to Agatha meaning she did nothing wrong and so cannot be used as a scapegoat for Wanda. Pushing the blame onto someone else via responsibility (Wong's job) or influence (Agatha) can be applied to everyone as nobody is in a closed system. This also means she (and therefor everyone else) has no or reduced accountability for their own actions. An argument that is all to familiar in our own society; leading there to be double standards for certain groups. May as well continue this line of argument by saying it was all Kang's fault and she had no choice but to follow the timeline he laid out.

My biggest frustration with WandaVision was that in a show that was so much about dealing with trauma and having empathy for people with trauma, it also chose to use Monica (someone who was traumatized) to essentially mark the other people hurt at Westview as if they are ungrateful for what Wanda has sacrificed for them. But anyways, that’s not the fault of Wanda though, and I love WandaVision giving her the humanity and complexity she deserves and it is so freaking weird to see some people so vehemently angry or hateful about her given that most of the MCU heroes have also had plenty of blood on their hands and made mistakes and that even includes the deified icon that is Steve Rogers.

Agatha was not controlling/torturing entire town as she kept asking Wanda how she was pulling off these multiple insane feats of magic concurrently. Since she is actiing out of grief, and people are harmed in those actions. That would make her negligent and since she is using powers that are supposed to be regulated by the Sokovia Accods without the permission of the governing body that makes the actions illegal. He has done videos like Thanos Was Right and Joker Was Right and gave serious thought to why they (may) have been right in their idea (but perhaps not in their execution,) but this he seemed...tongue in cheek and not serious. He kept showing the townspeople being leashed by Wanda's red energy. They guy clearly told Vision that they were caught in her grief (Agatha didn't have any grief.) So Wanda does something wrong… but because other people do bad things it’s okay… 1) it’s okay that Wanda is “Evil” at first, it helps makes her story interesting and also makes her journey to become a hero fascinating 2) Tony did not run from his problems. He wanted to fix his problems. Ultron was created in response to the New York invasion… the accords were created in response to what happen with Ultron… and so on… if he run from his problems he would not have tried to fix his mistakes 3) a lot of what you said is speculative about the avengers 4) this is why Dr. Strange was written in the last two episodes and why he should have been in there. If she truly didn’t know how to control her powers… she would have needed someone to help her… but because she was able to figure it out without anyones help means she had the ability to undue the hex without outside help… it shows she had that choice the entire time to undue it but choose to keep her reality going… it’s not a good look

Even if the Hex was painless, (which it was suggested multiple times it wasn't) that still doesn't make taking people's free will away right. And lets also not forget that one of the people who was an actual character in Wanda's hex asked Wanda to let them all die, imagine how the people at the edge of the Hex (far away from Wanda) would feel, they were either frozen and not able to move or were stuck doing the same task over and over again. And about Sheild 'invading Wanda's privacy and attacking her', was Wanda taking people's minds over and effectively torturing them not invading their own privacy? And if someone owns a home somewhere, that doesn't mean they can restrict entry of the government coming in that whole city, I'm sure the real residents of Westview would have loved for Sword to have freed them from Wanda. And it's also quite obvious Wanda knew that she was doing something wrong. In her conversation with fake Pietro, he brings up the fact that she had kids stuck in their beds. In the final episode, this is confirmed with Dotty (I think that's her name) begging Wanda to let her child out of room, just to see her. "Superhumans have unique ways of dealing with their issues," That still doesn't justify what she did, and nothing suggests that Wanda can't deal with her issues in a normal way like everyone else. "What's all the crap about Wanda being dangerous and unstable?" In her first appearance she was working with Ultron, made the hulk go on a rampage killing innocent people, as well as twisting the avenger's minds. In civil war she accidently blew up a building full of people (I'll give this a pass since it was accidental and she was trying to stop the bomb from killing other people, but still), after the building accident she fought against the Sokovia Accords (I think the Sokovia accords are stupid, but after accidently blowing up people maybe she should have thought about sitting out of that battle). Also, doing heroic things doesn't clear your past mistakes, even if they were mistakes. There is somethings I agree with, like the Avengers being some pretty crappy friends, but I chalk that up to budgets constraints and some bad writing. But I have to disagree that Hayward was a bad dude. Sure, he did some pretty messed up things, (Like lie about Wanda stealing Visions body and violating Vision's will) but if you look at Haywards action through the context that he was trying to stop another Thanos situation (and I don't believe the show made it clear he had any other motives), I think he's fairly justified. And before anyone brings up that he tried to kill Wanda's kids, let's not forget those kids were conceived and birthed in less than a day, grew from 0 to 10 in a couple hours, have superpowers, and their father is a literal robot who is dead. It wouldn't be a far stretch to say that those kids weren't real and created by Wanda. Also, erasing Peter Parkers identity from people's minds is hardly comparable to what Wanda did. The world did not need to know who Peter was and it only put him and his family at risk. Edit: This whole video way be satire, but in the beginning, he said he wasn't being satirical so idk.

but it was never confirmed she actually enslaved them or used mind manipulation. It's been alluded that Agatha was the one doing it. For example, in the scene where Wanda's neighbour kind of breaks out of 'character' and Agatha does her hand thing and he snaps back into it. Also if you go back and watch the show you can see how shitty Westview was before Wanda accidentally created the hex. Just because we've seen that mind manipulation is one of her powers doesnt mean she manipulated them on purpose, if at all. Gotta remember that Agatha has similar powers to Wanda. Direct quote from Marvels website: "Agatha is one of Earth's dozen or so most powerful witches. Her most potent spells seem to be precognitive, communicative, analytical, or manipulative of living beings' minds," She is also old af lol so she knows a lot more about how to use her powers purposefully compared to Wanda.

I want to do a bit more comparison. I think comparing Wanda to Peter wanting to be erased from memory are 2 different things at different times. Remember, these heroes are more like celebrities in our world. Peter had his right to privacy taken away from him, and if he and Strange would have planned things together better it would have been a much better outcome. But I am more curious about how Peter copes with having lost all his family and friends. Yes, he has had personal growth, and maybe getting to spend time with other versions of himself will have helped, but I’m guessing there will still be some underlying grief, and he still has the knowledge that there are people that he cares about that are safer because of his actions. In Falcon and the Winter Soldier Zemo was the person that remained the most level headed and ultimately removed the greatest threats. The hot headed actions caused more problems throughout the show. Sylvie’s actions and hot headed desires will literally result in the deaths of trillions. Hot headed actions in the MCU almost always cause more problems. Yes, Wanda could have been much worse to the people of Westview. And she probably didn’t realize how much pain she caused them and stopped as soon as possible. It doesn’t mean there weren’t healthier of coping that did not involve hijacking the lives of people. A very compelling and interesting argument though.

With that said, what we all have in common is the fact that we don’t go around responding to our trauma by causing inexplicable and irreversible trauma to others by holding them captive to once again be with the ones we lose. I lost my mother last year. I’d love to see her again, but unlike Ms. Maximoff we don’t all have the power to imprison entire New Jersey towns do we? With that said, due to her passed trauma and her help against those like Thanos and Ultron we are willing to reach some sort of plea deal in this case.

To be honest I think you may have under analyzed this. Tony Stark did not only run from his problems but, he also faced them. In endgame he works on the time machine for the single and small chance of bringing back the people who were gone, not to mention sacrificed his life facing the internal struggle for care about himself or the greater good. Up to Wanda vison Wanda was a good character. Regardless of what you see in Wanda's response she still mentally enslaved the people of Westview and while that is not physical damage it can effect the mental health of her victims. She was completely aware of this and took her interests over others not showing any sign of stopping. I think what they should have done was given Wanda a chance redemption instead of just pretending everything she did is fine. What I typed was a lot but these were the fist things that came to mind. Feel free to keep your opinion though I mean we're talking about wizards with capes here.

I am very much in the camp of "Wanda had no bad intentions and didn't understand that the residents weren't ok until the confrontation with them at the end." However, not so much in the "Tony was a villain, actually" camp... In his defense, the "little witch" comment was made at a time when Wanda was an enemy of the Avengers and they all hated her that much. He also said it while trying to relate to Hulk, who was under her nightmare mind-control and freaking out at the time. The wmd conversation was about him confining her to their base over the Lagos incident while being scrutinized by the world's governments as the Sokovia Accords were being finalized. I read that as him telling Steve "Look at the opinions I'm having to deal with here" not "This is _my_ opinion of Wanda." He also emphasized how "safe" and comfortable the base was in contrast to the prison cell she could (and did) end up in if the political situation wasn't handle well. The look he gave her on the monitor at the Raft shows he really did want to protect her.

She definitely did something wrong but I would agree that she’s probably one of the least problematic heroes in the MCU (and 100% my fave). She took an entire town hostage, killed innocent people in Lagos, helped Ultron…like she did lots of bad stuff. But WAY LESS bad stuff than the other Earth based MCU characters. And she has sacrificed more than most of them, and been victim to way more trauma. If she gets painted as the villain in Doctor Strange 2 I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT 👏

Exactly this! Tony Stark was a literal merchant of death back before his Iron Man days AND he unleashed Ultron on the world, even if he had "good" intentions. Wanda is a a great tragic character (similar to Natasha imo) and Im always rooting for her, personally

How the heck is she the least problematic? Who else consciously did something as bad as enslaving an entire town. Like even Ironman can't be as problematic as he didn't hesitate to try and stop Ultron, even then Ultron's creation was meant to keep people safe while Wanda's Hex was to help her hide from her grief regardless of how it affected others.

@@j1227 Bruh . You mean creating nuclear weapons for war ain't bad? Meddling with technology you clearly cannot comprehend ain't bad? Second of all Wanda did not intentionally create The Heck unline Stark who was fully aware of the consequences

You usually have good videos and breakdowns, but this and your "fixed" MCU timeline make me wonder why I'm subscribed to this channel. There is not much evidence that Agatha was the one who was in the heads of the Westview residents. Like, how do you explain away this line? "Your grief is poisoning us."

Wanda's grief + Agatha's poison. classic misdirection of blame to vilify an opponent and justify your own actions in harming them (Agatha taking Wanda's powers, holding her children hostage, etc.) Given Agatha's centuries of study and practice, and that we see her able to even subvert Wanda's mental powers when she tries to trap Agatha in a vision, Agatha is clearly capable of manipulating others' thoughts and feelings without them realizing it

This is the Better Call Saul defense of Wanda. He's not serious. It's like a Variant Ryan (did you notice the first time he defended her that his shirt turned red and his name tag was reversed like Bizarro, and Doug's shirt also was red?) He has done videos like Thanos Was Right and Joker Was Right and gave serious thought to why they (may) have been right in their idea (but perhaps not in their execution,) but this he seemed...tongue in cheek and not serious. He kept showing the townspeople being leashed by Wanda's red energy. They guy clearly told Vision that they were caught in her grief (Agatha didn't have any grief.) He also kept showing Saul from Better Call Saul. Pretty sure this was Ryan (or Variant Ryan) being facetious.

There is a short video featuring a fragment of an interview with Alan Moore, in said video he gives some writing advice and he says something along the lines of: "Read badly written stuff so you can think about / identify the things that don´t work and make it bad, so you can form a criteria about what NOT to do" This video is a really good example of that piece of advice.

Peter's actions in NWH are not framed as noble or justifiable in any way quite the opposite, they're childish and (initially)self-centred. This makes sense because the MCU generally stresses Peter's youth. He's a teenager and a minor blessed with sudden great power and still figuring out the responsibility that accompanies it. Contrary to what Cap would have you believe, Wanda is full grown woman and mother of two, who by all accounts should know better. Wanda's actions according to Screenrant are therapeutic and harmless... which is just not true.
