Daddy bought an LA in 1956 , it had a wooden floor board , high fenders with side that protected the driver , hand clutch and small gas tank to heat up the engine then open the main kerosene tank

Really unique machine. Must be a conversation starter when purchasing aviation fuel for a tractor.

You can bet on It! Ahah!! "So you are going spraying around today with your air tractor?? A lot of fun!!" "Yeah, lot of fun, but it's just a tractor without air, except for brakes!" LOL 😄😄😄

@@endoresu Yes, but I'd bet that it's compression ratio is still well low enough to run on today's pump gas. Vintage tractors in general originally ran exceedingly low compression by today's standards.

@@shotforshot5983 4.09 : 1 is the compression ratio for those old guys [NEW] and that is such a low ratio you could probably run them on 120-year-old 20 octane gas LOL

I'm pretty certain that these tractors were used to tow around airplanes off the runways and Into the grass where regular tug trucks couldn't go
@mdani763 жыл бұрын
For sure. And this is why it has airbrakes, planes are heavy and they could have no brakes while towing, and even no pilot who brakes!

They were mostly used for moving air planes , I remember my Dad saying they would unhook the governor or tie a string to the carb to get them to burn the tires off , when they were on r@r

Great looking and designed tractor when everything was done with a pencil and typewriter. Try to get someone today to try without a laptop. That was when folks walked around with brains in their heads.

The air force didn't switch to blue uniforms until sometime in 1949, so this is probably the color it was painted when it was reconditioned.

Most of the ground service equipment in the Air Force is still OD green today, so it's not that big of a deal that this tractor wouldn't be blue.

cool tractor and great history it looked like that was a quite advanced machine . while war is a terrible thing it does advance technology of machines, communication and medicine now if we could do that without the terrable human suffering. i wonder with air brakes if they used it to tow large trailers
