I had to watch a Doberman for a few days a long time ago. He slept in bed with me and would jump out of bed and rush to any sound he heard in that house. Gotta be honest, probably best night sleep I ever had. Made you feel like if something happened in that house, this dog is not only going to find it, you'll be alerted to it long before you are in any danger.

That very trait of Dobermans, being hyper attentive, is what saved my life. My Doberman and I were walking through our property which were some large fields with head-high grass behind our house. We'd walked there a lot on the narrow deer trails. The land was posted so no one was supposed to be there. My Doberman, Maxie, was ahead of me on the trail when she abruptly stopped and uttered a low growl. I tried to urge her on, but she kept throwing her body against my legs, trying to stop me from moving forward, and growling more loudly. Suddenly she leaped forward in the tall grass,, and I heard a loud scream. Turned out that Maxie had sunk her teeth into a man with a rifle who was hiding in the grass ahead of us. He stood up with Maxie holding onto his arm holding the gun. I had no weapon. I told the man to get the heck off my land and also told him that it was not deer season. I told him to hand over the gun and go back the way he came. At first, he acted like he'd refuse, but Maxie increased her grip in his arm, and he dropped the rifle, which I immediately picked up. I tod Maxie to "Release" as I held the gun pointed at the guy. I told him to leave and that he could come by the house later if he wanted his gun back. He turned and ran up the trail and out of sight. He never did come back for his gun. From then on, whenever I walked those trails, I carried a rifle with me.

@@v4v819 pitbulls are fine, it’s how they’re trained that matters. Also, consider the breed of pitbull is debatable and dogs with the characteristics can vary. Studies show there are other breeds more aggressive. Pitbulls are misunderstood and made a black sheep for idk know why. You could Google pitbull misunderstood. The ASPCA and Humane Society have issued statements regarding this. Each dog needs to be taken as an individual. And even with any dog that seems aggressive, it could be from fear. There are trainers who specialize in rehabilitating “aggressive” dogs and they completely change. It’s more that the people who have the dogs are bad or train them badly rather than bad dogs

I have found that most dogs, including Dobermans tend to read your energy. If you are confident they relax and if you are nervous walking they are just as stressed as you are. Not saying that you are nervous, but you are focusing on getting this video right and making sure the cameraman gets it perfect. THAT energy makes her unsure .

I had a Doberman growing up named justice and she saved my sisters life. In 2004 my sister had just turned 2 and I was 6. We were playing in the backyard when my moms phone rang, there was some family emergency so for just a moment she stepped inside to talk on the phone in private. Shortly after my mom went inside I heard barking so I thought it was justice running around playing. Seconds later I heard my sister start crying When I turned around I saw a German shepherd and a Rottweiler look at my sister running full sped towards her barking. Out of nowhere Justice comes out and jumps on the Rottweiler tackling him only 5-10 feet away from my sister. After this both the German Shepard and Rottweiler ran away. Those 2 dogs went on to maul a mailman 2 days later and he ended up needed over 120 stitches. The mailman made a full recovery but sadly both dogs were put down. To this day I am just as mad as ever those dogs were killed because their owner didn’t train them, they didn’t know any better because they hadn’t been taught better. Luckily the owner was criminally charged and he was no longer allowed to own any pets. Shortly after the incident he moved. It’s upsetting dogs like Pitbulls or Rottweilers have this image in the publics view of being bad dogs because they’re not bad dogs, they have bad owners. I have met tons of people with great well behaved pitbulls

Two dogs roaming the neighborhood attacking people aren’t good natured dogs and probably should be put down. I had a beautiful body builder of a blue Doberman and he fearlessly protected our home, but when he was out (was a housing and loved to escape) he was calm and people could approach him. Several times people brought him home by the collar, and once he arrived home in the back of a state police cruiser.

Also, a big one that I’ve had experience with before is that Dobermans will be 100% on another dog not giving it space, will screech and even nip hard at the other dog to play, and won’t back off when warned by the other dog. This can lead to serious problems if not checked. Source: I’ve encountered several Dobermans and plenty of them do it. I literally saw three in one day at the park all within 100 yards of waking and it happened every time. They’re super smart. They need correction and adjustments more than other dogs. If you are tired and just want a chill dog to walk, that’s not gonna be these. They need training on training. Also I have no bias against them as they are one of my fav dog breeds.

A friend of mine had one for years and it was a great dog... We, the friends of the family, could take it out for walks and swims, it would easily go with us and have a good time... It never got aggressive to humans .. had a tendency to establish dominance to other dogs if they first met, but after that was done and the other dog knew it's place all was good ... He was not acting the same like this dog when walking

Dobe's are definitely pretty spazzy, lol. Also just an insane amount of energy. I had a Dobe years ago, I'd take him to the park and play fetch with one of those launch sticks for 45 minutes in the morning before work, then I'd come home at lunch for a quick walk. After work another 45+ minutes of fetch and training, then about a 20 minute walk before bed and some more training. All of that, just brought him down to the energy level of a normal dog. Not even close to tiring him out. He would go so hard sometimes his paws would start to bleed and I'd have to stop playing fetch but he didn't want to stop.

I almost got attacked by a doberman on the streets once. It was late at night so the doberman was probably being overprotective of its owner. But what happened was I literally just passed by the owner and her dog while talking on the phone with my parents, and then it almost grabbed my leg with its mouth but I was luckily able to dodge it and the owner also pulled the dog away at the same time. I remember literally being in shock because that was the first time a dog came that close to attacking me. And this was also a small, young doberman. I can't imagine what would've happened if it was a big one.

You are spot on Garrett! I have a Euro and an American, and even though they are 2 different creatures, they are never off duty. Some folks might get lucky and get a show line Dobi that is easier to manage, but for the most part, these dogs are just way too much for the average owner. They have a very high attention span, but it’s directed at their hyper vigilant situational awareness. I find that they are hard to train to heel, because they are bred to run ahead and behind and all around you, to make sure that all is clear.

My neighbor USAF left his doberman home she looked at the meter reader then tucked tail and ran away from the gate as he opened it to hide behind a shrub on the far side of the yard. I was horribly misinformed about the doberman breed before getting mine for personal protection. I was told by breeders and trainers that the doberman is able to protect at the drop of a hat, very stable working dog if they’re from european bloodlines AND that they LOOOOVE to chill and be lazy with their owners when they aren’t working. Well idk what they were smoking but mine is ALWAYS ON exactly like you said, hard to focus for long periods of time, has a very hard time relaxing and will WHINE for hours for me to take him to go do bite work or just go outside and run. I work from home and so when i’m on zoom calls and he is on a down command but whining nonstop it is just unbearable. He is an amazing protection dog but he needs to be worked every day or else he gets whiny and even sad. He’s a drama queen. I am currently trying to find him a new home that wants his level of drive and will work him and hopefully switch to a Cane Corso as they can do personal protection and be lazy at home and chill as well as not being a whiny breed.
