Squidward - not humble, arrogant, and thinking he's too good for this, perceives himself as above everyone. If he wasn't so vain, he could make the most of his circumstances. Benson - once a famous drummer, now a park manager. Even though it's not what he wanted, he's content and makes the most out of it. That's the reason why he's so hard on Mordo and Rigby; his identity is tied to his job. Additionally, he sees them as a younger version of himself

Benson had no one else at the park to relate to besides Mordecai and Rigby. Benson wanted to do big things with his life, but kept failing and ended up at a dead-end job. His staff is Skips, who is immortal, likely very rich, and is probably only working to keep himself from not getting bored, Pops, who works at the park because he’s the owner’s son, and Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost, who never wanted to do much more than simply have a paying job. Mordecai and Rigby wanted to go to college together and do big things, and ultimately they blew that, and Benson can relate. Benson sees it and wants to help them be better, he could have fired them 7 times throughout the series but he didn’t. Shows a lot about Benson.

So the second ever episode of Regular Show I ever saw as a kid was the Eggselent episode. Oddly enough, it was that episode in which Benson became my favourite character. Yeah he was totally out of line with what he said about Rigby when Rigby was unconscious barely a foot away from him, but it's what he did following that comment that cemented him as my favourite. He didn't fire Mordecai after getting punched by him which a horrible boss definitely would've done (I remember being shocked at this). He later approached Mordecai to apologise, went out of his way to discover a method for Mordecai to finish the challenge by finding the journal, and then COACHED Mordecai to win the hat for Rigby! Now that is a cool ass boss and a good friend.

Regular show is about life in your twenties. I feel like the characters are in that stage where you’re just working and trying to get by, you don’t make a lot of money so you have to budget in order to get stuff you like or do activities you like. I’m 26 and I stopped going to school when I was 22 and just worked a lot for a few years and took that time to figure out what I wanted to do. I eventually went back to school and I’m about to get my associates degree now. So I guess don’t worry about feeling lost or like a failure because your mindset is gonna change the older you get and with that comes other changes. ✌️

It made him feel way more human. Seeing Benson as a person and not just the boss gave him a level of down-to-earthness that I can't compare to anyone off the top of my head

I love Benson because all of the above but alse he is just like that one uncle you have that seems the most normal person around but would casually drop the wildest lore of his life - the fact he is the world's best drummer, the past of beeing a table hokey champion, him having god-like powers if bottling up his anger....?!

I feel like benson is the squidward of regular show

Even as a kid I could never bring myself to hate Benson (except for the burger episode). The poor guy had to put up with a lot of nonsense and I can’t blame him for being angry. I’m glad he got the appreciation he deserves.

I remember watching the episode where Benson yells at Mordecai and Rigby about the dealership with my family for the first time and the whole room went quiet. Our parents, my cousins, me and my sister, that performance was just raw as hell.

After getting into management, I not only respect Benson, I love and relate to him now vs. me prior to it being more fond of Rigby.

Regular show started coming out when I was a teen, and there was not a single moment when I ever hated Benson. He was always my favorite character, but I do wonder if would I have felt differently had I been just a bit younger

Mordecai and Rigby were so lazy and their job was so good I mean they were basically living for free They didn’t have to worry about any bills where they were going to sleep if they have to pay rent they had it so good and they also got to do it with their best friend and super cool coworkers with a pretty chill boss that just asked you to do your work Yk cuz it’s ur job

Man, busted cart really made me sympathize with Benson a lot more.

I used to think benson was a jerk until I grew up and realized, “yeah I’d be mad too all the time if I had to keep telling the same two slackers to do their job”

I personally never hated Benson as a kid but getting older and rewatching it now makes me like him even more
