Hey John, great discussion. I wonder if it is possible if some of these ancient lava tubes are so deep, that atmospheric pressure could reach a level where pressure suits might not be needed. It might be ridiculously cold unless the temperature is controlled, but the atmospheric pressure and the protective ground layer would support that effort. Has that ever been discussed? (BTW... Hi Eryn. Great work, as usual).

Event horizon is proof to these idiotic “science” channels on cable TV that you don’t need sappy re-enactments, reality tv, or drama to deliver top notch scientific infotainment. All you need is intriguing topics, an informed host, and excellent guests. Thank you Event Horizon!!

JMG ... Event Horizon has to be one of, if not the best channels on KZbin for science and theory concerning space. How fortunate we live in a time of such advanced technology that we can learn of these concepts from a flip of a switch on our phones, tablets, etc. presented in a clear understanding for the every day common person with no background in this type of science who is interested in increasing their knowledge in this area... amazing! Never stop learning! 👍😉

Wonderful episode. Just curious, do you know anybody you could have on to talk about the upcoming launch of the Near Earth Asteroid Scout (NEA Scout)? It's a solar sail probe that will investigate 1991 VG, a mysterious near earth asteroid that some thought was an expended rocket stage or even an alien probe. I haven't heard very much about the mission at all. It's supposed to be sent up on the maiden flight of the SLS in November. I think it would be fascinating to hear one of the project leads talk about it because I think it's the first time we've ever sent a solar sail probe to do an actual rendezvous. Previously the big solar sail success was the Japanese Ikaros spacecraft, but in 3 years the solar sail on that craft only added 890mph of delta v, because Ikaros only had 3 square feet of sail per lb of mass. The NEA Scout has 29 square feet of sail per lb of mass. So I imagine the performance of the sail should be much more impressive. I'd love to hear a project lead talk about what kind of delta v they hope the solar sail will impart, if the NEA Scout proves solar sails are ready for prime time, if the NEA Scout heralds a new era for very cheap very lightweight asteroid missions, how many targets they might be able to fly by, etc. I mean, NEA Scout is only 31 lbs. And it might rendezvous with an intriguing asteroid and send back all sorts of fascinating imagery. It might rendezvous with multiple targets even. I believe a high resolution camera is the probes sole scientific payload. It's basically a camera, some cold gas thrusters, reactions wheels, and circuit boards bolted to a solar sail. I'm really excited about it and I hope other people are as well. Edit: The lead investigators for NEA Scout are Julie Castillo-Rogez and Les Johnson. Julie Castillo-Rogez has had a super cool career in science and worked on a lot of neat projects. I bet she'd have a lot to say.

I'm a regular listener of the show event horizon, I love everything to do with space and the possibility for life outside this planet. A question for John Michael Godier, I wonder that you ever heard this? Type on youtube - Somebody Else Is on the Moon - Audiobook - by George H. Leonard. It's more than 6 hours talking, but incredible.

We've come full circle ... we're back to cavemen. Nice catch, John Michael! BTW your joke about our astronauts bringing paint and painting on the cave walls went totally over his head l0l0l0l0l.
