Unless you're selling unique works of art, successful business are based on boring repetition and not on designing and making creative projects. What is good for social media is generally bad for business - unless the majority of revenue is generated by social media.

We have two kids and we make a point to always have at least one week before or after school holidays off so that we have some us time so that we can then be there for the kids. Take care of yourselves and never feel bad for looking after your own well being.

You need to hire more people and train them on making your boards so that can free you up good video great to see you back
@dougcox835
@dougcox835 Жыл бұрын
I think they've been down that road and discovered that hiring people costs money. I think they've also considered franchising but for whatever reason that didn't work either. You know who the cheapest and most competent employee is? Yourself. I think the same works with contracting out the work to some factory woodworking shop. They probably don't get the quality they need and the expense makes it not worth the trouble. Notice that they don't make their own boxes though. They could get a die press and raw cardboard and make their own but it's far cheaper and easier to just buy boxes to order.
@MrTresto
@MrTresto Жыл бұрын
@@dougcox835 it really depends how good you are at both recruiting and managing tbh. Most products and goods are produced by companies that have employees you know ... Turns out, it's a skill, and that's why a (good) manager can make quite a bit of money. Because it turns out it's not such a common skill ...
@dougcox835
@dougcox835 Жыл бұрын
@@MrTresto Yup. But also the market. There is a point where you physically can't do everything yourself and must hire people. But if you don't have enough business to sustain enough volume it doesn't make sense to hire other people. I think there is a gray area where you have more than you can handle but not enough to hire people. If you can grow fast enough you can blow right through that. Also if your business is seasonal there is a problem with that as well. I think they do have a very seasonal product. Temp workers might not be an option because training might be a problem. Easier to just do the work yourself than teach a temporary worker the ropes.
@kmbbmj5857
@kmbbmj5857 Жыл бұрын
@@dougcox835 Agree. There's also the question of "what business are you actually in?" Their stated goal at one point was to build custom & semi custom furniture and selling the cutting boards to realtors was to be a calling card of sorts to get customers for the furniture business. But it slid into a cutting board business. But it really appears as if they are in the content creator business and the cutting boards are merely the backdrop for that. Do they really need wood working production workforce or video production workforce?
@dougcox835
@dougcox835 Жыл бұрын
@@kmbbmj5857 I had that same thought when watching the show Gold Rush. That one is a bit more obvious though. Same issues, once you account for overhead that gold haul doesn't look so great. Until you realize that they are all paid to be on the show.

Ok you finally outgrew your goals. When you find yourself wondering why the heck are we doing all of this stuff? It is time to step back and contemplate, and reset your goals. Burnout is just loosing your way and then you are floundering. It is the evidence that you have grown your capacity past your current goals but If you set a larger goal than what you think you are capable of... (not one that runs you over) then you can get back to the creative fun stuff again. If you don't then you are in danger of going backwards. Oh no...I am talking to myself as well. Again reset goals get back into the creative process of growing and move foreword again. Floundering is bad...it causes burnout, midlife crisis, and kills the fun of creatively growing. Great job guys!

Believe it or not I actually missed you. One piece of advice, Change things up a bit. It's up to you as to what to change and how but I recommend changing whatever you hate the most first. I've discovered with exercise that the most important thing to exercise is the thing that hurst most. That sounds like the opposite advice actually but consider changing something like an exercise. You don't want to screw yourselves, but small changes, and maybe comfort changes, can't hurt.

Also taught high school part time so 60-70 hours was the norm. I am 73 made a huge move from California to Oklahoma spend time with grand kids (schedule time) work on my passion and starting a new wood working business specializing in black walnut. I scheduled my time X hours on 1 and and three. Take care of my wife cook meals and do the shopping I contract house cleaning Schedule time to look in the mirror time to relax and time to do something totally different and building a car. Please do not stop I need you to learn wood marketing can you help? To both of you my best wishes.

Honestly, this is gonna sound negative… And I’m definitely not trying to be a troll or sound like one but to be fair your channel has for quite some time now gone through rinse and repeat like a dish machine that’s broken cutting boards to scrap wood projects back to cutting boards to tours of your shop, there are nothing but cutting boards even though you say you’re a table company, you’ve never been able to watch that part off the ground your stud stack program which honestly just seems like a chat room for other woodworkers to get together shoot ideas across the table to another For a fee and then you say you quit KZbin came back and you’re back to doing the same thing cutting board, scrap wood projects I’m just giving you my personal opinion of what I see not telling you it’s a bad thing not telling you you should change anything or do anything different just my point of view
