So, as a person who lived, and participated (1st Gulf War vet) through a good chunk of this timeline. People have been exposing this real time. I think the US's relations with other countries can be attributed to both the influence of the 'petrodollar' and because of post Cold War foreign entanglement, perhaps one is more influential than the other but I believe both factor in.

I'm actually impressed with how far the US will go to safeguard it's currency and global leader status even if it's at the expense of foreign potential growing economies or innocent civilians of these countries oblivious to the US reasons.
