I have a 2025 NX350h on order and after my test drive, I agree with you about the interiors in the new Lexus. My 2015 ES300h was totalled last month after a deer or elk ran into the driver’s side at 120kph (yes, I am in Canada). Both vehicles would be the same trim, ultra luxury in Canada, the 2nd trim from the top. My ES had nice real wood door and console trim and on the steering wheel. The passenger side was stitched leather. For my soon to be NX, it seems Lexus is giving me more tech at the expense of luxury car interior materials. I miss my ES. I was proud of it. It gave me 10 years of faithful service. It was a solid car and, because of that, probably saved my wife and I from serious injury. Thank you for your NX videos which really helped me in my decision to buy. Cheers.

Your reviews of the NX350h have been right on. I've got a 2024 version and overall, I just love it. I agree that it's not a "fun" car in the traditional sense, but I love the way it handles. I love the safety features. I love the reliability. It's the perfect size for a retired couple. Easy to park. Great gas mileage. Love the self-charging hybrid cuz I would have no place to charge a plug-in hybrid. My understanding is it is the only self-charging hybrid being manufactured currently (but I could be wrong). And the price point is excellent for what you get. Apparently the CAT converter on the car is almost impossible to steal due to the design. And I have heard through the grapevine that Lexus has updated the software to thwart an OBD port attack by a thief (Not sure of this one though). Reliability and safety are top of my list for any car. The NX350h works for me. No car is perfect and I do agree with some of the small "negatives" you have cited. I do disagree with one observation you made previously about the car having a "small gas tank" and not the car for a road trip. I get 450 mile range on a full tank. I find I can go a long way without having to gas up. The car is also in high demand. Where I live, there is at least a one year waiting list to get one but I lucked out with my particular circumstances (too much to get into here). Cheers.

@@ekimandersom4478 If they can't give them away in Germany, that must mean they think there is something wrong with them over there. So not sure why you are even considering purchasing one. Not to disparage Germany car models, although they tend to be built like tanks, you apparently have to keep taking them into the shop to get repaired. Fun to drive. Not fun on the wallet. 😂

I am very surprised at your decision. We have bought Lexus cars since 1992 and we now have the NX450h+ and an NX350h on order. We love the compact style of the car and being older we don't need a larger car anymore. We love the NX handling, compactness, and gas mileage. While there is less wood and more plastic doesn't bother us.

I agree there’s so much to love about the NX and I will be sad to lose it but I’m all about the engine in a car and as the V6s and V8s going away, it was something I didn’t want to miss out on. Where with the NX, if I decide I want to go back to one, the NX with a 4-cylinder hybrid will always be around and so I could flip back to it if I end up not liking the new car down the line.

I completely get what you're saying about a car not having a "soul." I LOVE Lexus and Toyota! I own a 2004 Lexus SC430 that I bought new and it currently has 67K on the clock. I love its uniqueness and luxury, and I haven't been tired of it for the last 20 years. No rattles, or squeaks, and the big V8, and all the wood and leather make me feel good. Last year I sold my Toyota Tacoma PreRunner TRD; I bought it new in 2003. I sold it with 120K on the clock almost what I had paid 20 years earlier. It was always a terrific truck in the simplest of ways, which is only one of the reasons I held on to it for so long. I also sold a 2007 Miata last year that I LOVED. It was like lighting in a bottle! But every time I drove it - it scared me a bit in Southern California traffic. It was a little too small of a car. This year, I retired to my home in Palm Springs California, and I am seriously considering adding either the RX or the RAV to my garage. Yet, I do agree with you that the line between Lexus and Toyota is beginning to blur. So, for as little as I drive, I'm wondering if I can justify the premium cost of the RX which doesn't always feel like it's worth the premium cost. So the RAV is looking pretty good to me. I LOVE your RAV and 4Runner! Great Video!
@josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
I love this comment so much! I’m a native Angeleno who followed tech to Austin but still consider LA to be a home and I definitely understand the Miata being a little too small on the SoCal freeways! It would be the same thing here, though people drive them and I love seeing them. Hang onto that SC430 for as long as you can, too! It’s a real gem! As for the RX, if you’re talking a brand new RX I’d pass all day long on it. I have a video coming out tomorrow morning on the new RX hybrid. The 4-cylinder engine in it is just not befitting of an RX and not worth the price either. If you can find and would be willing to buy CPO, you could do a 22 RX so as to get the V6. If not, I would definitely go Rav, but go hybrid, and I would definitely check out the Venza too. It’s reminiscent of older RXs with the more graceful styling. Cheers!

I actually ended up going with the Toyota Crown Signia. It has a lot of similarities with the NX 350 H but getting in and out, the size, the handling and ease of parking just made it the right car for me. I used a car broker because I didn’t want to play the “let me talk to my manager“ game with the dealership. I don’t know if I got a spectacular deal, but I think I got a fair deal. The Crown Signia is hard to find and not readily available in the colors I wanted, so I had to order it. Hoping to get it next month.

I so agree with you when you brought up the decline in quality of Lexus cars. I drive a 2007 IS250 and it still feels lux to this day. I enjoy the wood trim and my worn out leather seats. One day I got picked up by a friend in his 2013 Lexus IS250 (when they started coming out with those ugly front grills lol) and immediately I could see and feel the difference. Everything seemed “plasticky”. Even the smell of leather seats was so artificial. In my head I was thinking the demand for these cars is probably so high that they have no choice but to overlook quality to keep up with the demand. But you’re right…some Lexus cars are starting to feel like Toyotas with a Lexus price tag.
@josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
So funny story, my college roommate/now best friend’s mother had a 2006 IS250 in the gorgeous green metallic over beige leather interior and that car and riding in it when I went home with him during our college years is right when and where I decided that a Lexus was the car I aspired to own in life because the leather and fit and finish and the perfectly polished wood on the center console was INCREDIBLE. So, suffice to say I LOVE your generation of IS and it’ll always be special because that was the car that made me fall in love with Lexus. And she still has it to this day and will never get rid of it!

Agree with your predication that the 4 runner is going away. Enjoy your new GX! After going with the GX ourselves, we plan to keep it forever given the new GX550 and new LandCruiser (slimmed down 4Runner). It is really comfortable and just feels bulletproof. Sure the mpg is not great, but the reassurance of its ride, get out of anything traction, reliability makes up for it.

Holy crap! I agree with you 100% on the interior design language of Lexus cars. I have been making comments and left plenty of complaints on how Acura cars are heading in the opposite direction of old Lexus - where Acura is getting more luxurious and Lexus is getting mundane on the inside interior real estate.
@josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
I like Acura a lot, though I wish they weren’t going right to full EV. If they made a hybrid MDX and a hybrid RDX, those would sell like crazy. Especially if they could base a hybrid MDX on the existing V6 which is what Lexus can’t seem to do.

Currently watching this video in my 2023 GX. You won’t be disappointed (although the trackpad may require some getting used to coming from a 14” touch screen)! You must find a dirt road to flog it on as soon as possible to feel its Land Cruiser soul-I was smitten with its on road manners (KDSS works brilliantly, and it has a smoothness and solidity that is very calming), but was even more happy after experiencing it off pavement. If you leave the center differential unlocked on the dirt, it even rotates nicely and feels very rear-biased. Had a loaded 2023 RX 350h as a loaner, and felt exactly the same as you with your NX. A decent car, with a shockingly efficient power train, but felt like I was home when I hopped back into the GX. The V8, rear-biased powertrain, hydraulic power steering, and old school Lexus build quality make it feel like it has a soul, while still managing to be as quiet and smooth, if not smoother, than the new stuff. Looking forward to your next video!

@@josh-on-cars Zach and Andrea from Motormouth have compared the RX350h and the NX350H and they say they are almost the same except for smaller cargo space in the NX. However the NX costs about 10k less than the RX. They agree with you that the new models have more interior plastic parts which you say make them look like Toyotas. P.S. I have a now considered old 2010 RX350 with a V6 3.5L and I understand that you changed two new cars for the old V6 gas engines. When I change my car a few years from now (hopefully), I won't have much choice than to go with the new 2.5L engines.

They are very similar although the NX is significantly smaller not just in cargo space but overall vehicle footprint. It’s on the small side of the compact class where RX is right in the middle of the midsize class. And as for not having much choice beyond the 2.4/2.5 I4s, that was the reality that we saw coming and why we decided to act fast last year and buy the V6 Camry and V8 GX we did. I think the new engines are totally fine but they drive so differently and the cars as a whole have gone down so much in material quality, and I just think the golden age of cars is coming to an end. Which is okay because as a whole the world needs to pivot toward more environmentally friendly technologies if we want a future here so I can support that too.

Hello! I don’t get super into finance (mainly as I’m not a financial advisor) but I’ve paid cash, financed, and leased in the past. If it’s something I think I’ll want to keep for a while, or if interest rates are high like they are now, I’d pay cash. If it’s a euro car or EV, it’s leasing all the way. And financing is fine too as long as you’re putting enough down to always be ahead of depreciation. Interest rates are sky high right now. The targeted offers I get with my top tier credit are around 7-8%. Ouch.

@josh-on-cars10 ай бұрын
Hello! I’m assuming you’re talking about the new generation NX (2022+), and if so, you might not see much in terms of savings because NX hybrids are still in such high demand. The biggest savings you’ll see would be on a 2022 but I would avoid the 2022 as it was the first model year and buying a first year of anything is never a great idea. I’d look for a 2023 but the price differential might not be enough to justify going used versus new. And, If you can’t afford to get a new NX, you might look at getting a new Venza Limited since I hear they’re not selling well and they’re being discontinued at the end of the year (so you might find some discounts). The Venza Limited is basically an NX for about $5-10K less.

I agree with your comments about Lexus having three in my household I see the difference. I have a 2005 RX330 that everything still works and it has very fine quality. What is considered luxury? Illuminated door sills, headlight washers the front seats have armrests like captains chairs. I could go on. I decided to to keep it despite 3 offers to purchase the vehicle. Also, we have a 2019 RX450h and a 2022 GX 460. I've always admired the GX but I do feel as if it is the stepchild. The ride quality sold me but I hope I'm not regretting the purchase.

Yes! That’s exactly how I feel too. I also feel like Toyotas have gotten so (relatively) nice inside while at the same time Lexuses have gotten less nice too and so now both Toyota and lexus vehicles can occupy the premium space… it’s weird. Also, you have a GREAT garage there and if I were you I would hold onto the RX450h and the GX until they literally die of exhaustion one day.
@mattph76b Жыл бұрын
I agree that the difference between Toyota and Lexus is not as distinct as in years past. We're looking for a PHEV and have been primarily looking at the RAV4 Prime and NX450H+. We expected the NX to be much higher-scale than the RAV4 Prime. To our surprise, options like a panoramic moonroof and heated rear seats are only available on the RAV4. How could that be? The Lexus only offered a standard moonroof/sunroof, and had less trunk space to boot. Only the NX had the Parking Assist though, which is something we want, so rather than compromise, ultimately we're going to wait for the 2024 BMW X3 Plug-In.
@josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
Hello! Have you thought about the RX450h+? It’s a big bigger than the three you mention here but I think it may offer the features you’re looking for. I’m with you on the NX PHEV not offering the upgrades being really strange. And to me the price point on the NX is way too high to justify. The RX PHEV may be as well, though. As for the X3 PHEV, I think it’ll be a great choice as long as you know what you give up by going with a German car. I would definitely not want to own the first model year of that car, so highly recommend you lease, and be okay with spending a ton more up front and over your ownership term (plus much higher depreciation at the end of it).

A lot of cheap black hard plastic in a CDN$75,000 car, a lot of exposed components under the hood as opposed to my old one, and the worst for me, in the new models, is the 4 cylinder engine. @josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
Hello! Mine barely depreciated at all but keep in mind depreciation isn’t dependent on any one thing in particular, but rather market conditions as a whole. Right now these cars are in high demand, you can’t get one (and I don’t see that changing for a while), and they make far fewer NX350hs than Rav4 hybrids so there’s much less inventory. There also aren’t any other full hybrid luxury compact crossovers (so the NX is the only game in town) but there are many other non-luxury compact crossovers (so there are other options if someone shopping the used market can’t get a Rav). And then in the long run, it’s also about how you maintain the car, how much you drive, and what the market is like at that point.

How interesting! I’ve never looked too far into Mazda but that’s great insight to have, thank you! Mazda’s horrid resale is what’s kept me from buying anything from them even though I think their cars are great.
@gregthomson7889 Жыл бұрын
@@josh-on-cars The resale values are bad because of the turbos they use to make they couldn't be any worse unless they made them in Korea.Also most people don't know this but the CX 5 has improved because Ford is now out of the picture and Toyota owns part of Mazda and it shows.Just put the original CX 5 and a new one up on a hoist and look underneath they are not the same mentality on how they are made.Out with Ford in with Toyota.Also the motor and 6 speed automatic is rated as one of the best as long as you don't get the turbo.Whats interesting is the new CRV hybrid in real world fuel economy isn't much better than the CX 5.And the paint quality and thickness is even better than the CRV and if you measure it around the CX 5 it matches the Lexus NX 350 in some places.If you are worried about resale the only vehicle to look at is the RAV 4.

@josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
Oh either one would be fantastic. I like atomic silver on the GX and ES but I think the NX is absolutely striking in the windchill Pearl. If you’d be open to it, the white over Rioja red combo is HOT too. But palomino is also really nice. I personally don’t care for it in the black and cream because there’s so little of the cream color inside. Also, you definitely shouldn’t compromise on any of the features. The HUD and 14” screen are both must have for me. I could take or leave the headlights but not the others.
@MrOktsx Жыл бұрын
@joshandjohnshouseoftoyotas My partner and I have discussed it, and I really think I could go for the Rioja red interior in either Windchill or Atomic Silver. I wasn't very open to it because of my co-worker's car..but what the heck? I actually hated the Palomino at first but might be able to live with it. Palomino seems more jarring to me than Rioja red. I've owned 8 white vehicles in my life. They're so easy to keep clean and are very forgiving when it comes to swirl marks/imperfections. It'd be very hard to change...
@josh-on-cars Жыл бұрын
I think you should consider it. And again, the white exterior with red and black interior is so hot. I agree with you at palomino being jarring, the thing I don’t care for is that EVERYTHING is that Amber color. Headliner, seats, everything. I’m okay with that when it’s beige or a neutral but the palomino is a saturated color. I like that with the Rioja red that I have, the headliner is black so the seats really pop.
