As for damp tents where you worry about mildew... carry a jug of white vinegar and wipe them down when you can.... even inside. With a decent breeze the vinegar odor disappears quickly but it will kill mildew and you don't want chlorine bleach for several reasons: the environment, it can actually rot some fabrics, and you don't want to breathe it.

The video was such an inspiration, not just for travelling but the way you appreciate life and know what’s really important. You’ve all touched a lot of lives for the better! Q&A is a great idea! Loved it! The 2 Jeeps and Lando in the intro is amazing 🐕💕 Do you ever worry about Lando when he runs far ahead and what he may encounter? He sure is having the best dog’s life ever!
@EFRT4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. We’re so glad you enjoyed the Q&A. In some areas we have to be very careful that Lando doesn’t get too far ahead because of mountain lions and other wildlife. He is good at staying close so we can keep an eye on him 👍🏻

Yes, Epic is correct. Glad you guys, as a family figured this out. I worked with a older gentleman that had taken time early in his life to do kinda what you are doing. When his kids finally moved in he started working full time as an electrician. He reversed retirement/work. Unfortunately after about 10 years he got an aggressive brain cancer and passed away. He was blessed that he had lived the way he did. Keep up with the great content. Wishing you peace, health and safe travels.

Thank you as always for taking us along. I know you have done some overseas travels, but if you get a chance look up Grizzly and Bears channel as they can give some great tips on shipping and overlanding in Asia. Great and informative Q & A. Loved how each family member answered and it was in different settings. Next Q & A: not to be too personal or gross, but can you explain how you do baths and bathroom needs while overlanding (both in cold climates like Vancouver Island or Newfoundland and hot ones like Mexican desert). I think I remember a metal fold up toilet seat but do you put it in something for privacy? Also would love to have 2-3 meals on a video, with recipe linked below. I realize Carol doesn't cook by meansurements but would like to see her and Caroline prepare the 4 favorite meals mentioned in this video. Love the new animated logo with Lando. Epic!

It was so great to see a Q&A episode along with all your other adventures. Thanks so much! One question that we have has to do with bears. When we were in Yosemite they told us to not even leave a gum wrapper in the car because grizzlies break in the cars and can smell things really well. How do you keep your food locked up in such a way that bears aren’t attracted to it? We are never sure where to put our coolers and food boxes.
@lilabean4184 жыл бұрын
That has always been a concern of mine as I travelled deep into grizzly, moose, polar bear country. My family witnessed (and cleaned up) a horrible mess just a small black bear did to a “bear proof” cooler that was in a closed box of a pick up truck. We never cooked inside our dining shelter or our camper. We used a very bright torch & swept around the campfire every night to ensure the children left no crumbs. We’ve had many bear encounters, only minor damage to a canvass tent when a grizzly clawed at it. We’ve always had a dog with us, and a dog will alert to an elk (a very quiet animal) outdoors, never mind the noisy bears?
@EFRT4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shawn. Great question. We keep our food in an ARB fridge and a SnoMaster fridge in the back of the Jeeps on slideouts. They are airtight so they don’t put out any food scent. We burn any food scraps or feed them to Lando and make sure there is no food laying out in the Jeeps. I’m not 100% sure, but I think bears in the national parks are a little more bold because of human interaction than bears in the deep wilderness.
@shawnhart89014 жыл бұрын
@@EFRT thanks so much! That makes a lot of sense. Yeah, the bears in Yosemite have learned that cars are easy targets for goodies. We really appreciate your response. The kids are especially excited you wrote back. We have a tradition of Sunday night ice cream and EFRT. Thanks for sharing your journey and filling our family with dreams to fulfill as the kids get older and aren’t asking, “how much longer?” every 20 minutes. :)

Thank you for sharing with us! I always thought you were an amazing family and you certainly confirmed it with this video. You are not only a family but are also best friends who comprise a top notch team. Your videos are so enjoyable to watch because of the attributes you all possess. I was very fortunate growing up in a military family and traveling with Dad to so many different places and countries. I wanted that experience for myself after graduation and as a military man, my job took me almost around the world and sharing incredible experiences with other families, both American and foreign. Travel is so educational...just need to open your eyes, listen and allow yourself to soak in everything; weed out the negatives if you wish. Make them a lesson learned. The one question I have is that your wonderful "kids" are all super intelligent and do they have career aspirations. My kids are all grown and one of my twin sons is retired. They all left home to become successful in what they aspired to do or become.

I love your movies so inspirational thank you. Have you thought about acquiring a Chinese diesel heater a self contained unit. If you crept the unit outside but piped the hot air inside your tent it would dry out quickly as your not recirculating the damp air. Well that’s the theory. I’ve just acquired one for the caravan to keep it dry in the winter. Love to your family.

Who knew? Apparently, you should have planned end of November and first week of December in southern Alberta. Warm and dry here. The tents and all your gear would certainly dry out with the wind and very low humidity. I think that a lot of families would have issues being confined as you all are and would get into tremendous fights and would simmer in resentment. But you are all a different type of a lucky family, it seems to me. It’s very heartwarming and relaxing to watch. I don’t see there being any outtakes on the cutting room floor with nasty screaming matches.
