Hi Im Jesse's wife Tanya. We both really enjoy watching your family. We are both happy and sad to see the children go. Happy that the children can begin to stretch their wings, but also sad, because we enjoyed watching them grow up. As empty nesters we totally understand what you're feeling. We hope that you will continue to post and camp. Hopefully someday we'll see you down the road.

I grew up around Horne Lake. The east side of the Island is IMO the best part of the Island. We're a lot drier than the west, which is the best thing, but the winds can be just as fierce as the west side, just not as constant. The Comox Valley is where I call home now.

Such a pleasure for me to see families enjoying the outdoors together, and what a beautiful place this is! We never camped, but I wish we had. My children are all grown now, they’ve moved on with their lives. But we enjoyed travelling overseas many times together, and I have those wonderful memories to keep. When a was a kid in the late 70’s and 80’s I would drink freely from the creeks, rivers and streams and never gave it a second thought. My parents moved quite often and always to rural areas in Oregon and Northern California where we always seemed to live next to water. Those waters were never as crystal clean as we see here. And sometimes the water would taste funny but I never got sick. Oh how times have changed in so many ways but for the safety of us all. I would never allow my kids to roam freely as I once did.
@dunk224 жыл бұрын
I was a kid in the 60's and 70's in remote canada, we never drank the water from a river or creek without boiling it. Springs we did. But from rivers and more so creeks, it's not the pollution you need to worry about. It's that beaver upstream that should concern you. Shitting your brains out for a few days by catching Beaver fever( giardia) will change your mind on boiling the water first. It's no joke and has been around for a long time.
@darlenearmstrong35824 жыл бұрын
I still do but I'm on vancouver island where there's endless free running water that mostly just fell from the sky. Our land is so clean, that almost all flowing water is pure and safe.

Giardia is no joke. Especially in the bush. Been there. (In BC).

@@k80bhappypaddler you got that right, anyone foolish enough to drink from a stream without boiling or purification are taking a big chance.

You guys use the Backwoods Map Book ? The series make one for each major region of the Province. Show all the FSRs , campsites, lakes and fishing spots . Detailed write ups of the spots . Very handy and a good read too around the campsite. Great to have with no wifi. Got my butt out of the backwoods a few times . Peace and safe travels 🇨🇦✌

I’ve always been curious about what you use to get damp firewood going. Once I tried boiling Vaseline and soaking it into cotton balls I never went back. Stays lit long enough to dry wood out. Plus it’s super cheap- in case you’ve never given it a shot. (Not that y’all appear to need help). Awesome video as always. Good luck to the kids!!!

We use a collapsible pocket bellows to help introduce air. I like their idea of a fan but less controlled. We use wood shavings from chainsaw work and candle wax, mixed up and poured into cardboard egg crates
