there have been a few really, really good mods. Noticeably the one where they just buy a new car or the episode where they had this old car and ripped the engine, transmission etc out and put a diesel engine in (and not much other fancy stuff).

I used to love watching Stacy David on the weekends when Speed did the Powerblock, I was always more interested in more of the nuts and bolts of wrenching on cars and trucks and working on muscle cars and classic trucks rather than the early 00s tuner car scene. Those shows are alittle dated and some of them were somewhat hamfisted with the sponsorships, but they did pave the way for the more DIY/Project car type shows that we see on KZbin now and have aged pretty darn well as compared to Pimp my Ride and the other more over the top reality car shows

My favorite early 2000s show was the TLC show called Junkyard Wars (Scrapheap Challenge was the British version). You had 10 hours in a junkyard to build whatever the challenge was. And then the next day they would compete in the challenge to see who would win. It was an awesome show that showed a lot of innovative fabrications and engineering. Now my new favorite car show is Roadkill and Roadkill garage, from Motortrend.

Who remembers ''Trick It Out''? There was an episode in which some self-proclaimed 'tuners' turned an Accord into a Mercedes, by putting the whole Mercedes front fascia on it! And some others couldn't even finish their project, which was planned to include 20in rims in a Honda and exhibitional trays full of cupcakes in its door cards! Gaudy s**t af! There was also another kitsch moment when someone made custom wheels inspired by the basket ball, with the characteristic black lines on them, painted them orange and fitted them in a slammed orange 240SX S14!

The 2000s were when I first really started getting into cars, especially the import scene. While I watched a bunch of build shows, I think my favorite was Tuner Transformation on the Speed Channel. Focused mainly on the sport compact scene, but they seemed to care more about performance than they did about the looks or crazy body kits that a lot of the shows relied on. They had those too, but my favorite episodes were the ones where they just tried to build a faster, better handling car. Really wish that show was still on...
