Cynthia is an Opera Diva without the attitude. In a career of thirty years, she has sung almost every leading soprano role and sung in countries all over the world. She achieved an international reputation for her interpretations of some opera literature's most interesting and challenging heroines. Hers was not an obvious path. From a small town in Colorado to the stages of the world, her story inspires others to love opera and all art for the richness it adds to the experience of life. www.cynthiamakr...

All this can be said about the theater as a whole. Attending acting course I too felt the ability to be different then I am used to. Playing different roles gave me the opportunity to expand my horizons and opened the way to a better understanding of myself. For those, who are not actors, opera, like classic literature, can give an opportunity to look on different situations from outside and to learn on characters mistakes. It also can give some emotions that we lack at the moment.

The microphone kept breaking because of such powerful voice! 👏 I can’t imagine how beautiful (and impactant) it would be hearing her in real life.

Cats is a Musical not an Opera. It's strange to propose a non operatic excerpt and talk about opera???

Marie-Ève Dubé is the vocal technic and the quality of the voice what is engaged here. You can use it for opera, musicals , or singing without a mike in tha shower

Thank you for making opera in America today so enjoyable and accessible. Even when it’s in a foreign language, somehow I get it. The Divas of my early years-Joan Sutherland, Maria Callas-were able to do that. Only true artistry can do that. In this TED presentation, your honesty speaks directly to my inner journey and my writer’s heart. Bravo!

Thanks for this interesting take on opera. I never looked at it quite that way before. And thanks also for linking it to "bigger issues" in such an interesting way!

I watched and listened again today, one of many times, and I am reminded, as you shared so eloquently in your talk, of the power of song to touch my heart and inspire me. Thank you, Cynthia, for sharing your beautiful gift.

Thank you for your profound TedTalk. A great being said, ‘The way to your divinity is through your humanity.’ I love how you expressed this in your talk, Cynthia! You’re so eloquent in saying what we all feel. We’re so afraid of our ‘shadow side’ but it is, after all, our human side that needs to be seen and finally accepted. I love classical music but I never loved opera until I heard Pavarotti and Bocelli. Then I heard you sing arias and felt such a blessed expansiveness. There’s magic in your expression. Thank you for your soulful ‘Memories.’ Your beautiful singing has opened so many hearts. Thank you, Cynthia!

I highly doubt she had sung almost every leading soprano role. I have a book that covers over 2,000 operas, pretty much all will have at least one leading soprano role. Tebaldi sang only just over 1,000 performances in her entire career, so, no, she has not sung that many.

This is why in 2021 young people have no interest in either singing opera or going to one. This singer is so narcissistic it's awful. Her phony attitude is transparent to anyone not involved in classical music. What a major turn off especially when saying that "Opera can be for all types of people." And that ghastly performance of "Memory" is just what? An opportunity for her to sing in front of a captured audience? Whew! I've been singing for about 40 years professionally and I've always hated singers like this. Such a snob and yet pretends not to be.

I know your comment is a year old, but it's Memory from Cats. It's actually a musical theatre song that she adapted to opera.
