Why You Can't Boot from USB Thumb Drive

I have a bootable usb pendrive ; when I restart pc and press f12 , the startup device menu opens and the pendrive also shows; but when I select that USB pendrive the new window installation setup doesn't open , only pc gets On ??? I want to re-install windows 🙏🙏🙏 *HELP*

Gotta love file systems. Fat32 supported by most but with 4gbytes limit. Ntfs no limit but mostly Windows only. And exfat no limit, supported by most except Windows lol.

When booting your pc you have to hit delete key to open bios

hallo actually you can boot from tumb drive,flash drive,ex drive,micro drive and ex ssd drive,ex ssd flash drive. all in all they are all external ssd or hdd's. but only if you: 1 before doing anything...nake sure to backup everything that you have on your external drive to another place 2 make sure you have enough storage space at least 20gb and if possible make secondary partition from your drive 3 if you make yours whatewer you have as bootable. and make wanted OS partition to OS coresponding file system so you will be able to run it 4 press F6 or F8 or F10 on bootup so you will b able to select your external drive but if you have windows on your ex (eternal) drive will not perform fast on those drives do to hardware variation

i have a problem that i cant find on youtube.. when i put a usb bluetooth on pc the pc cant boot it stuck in loading screen.. but when i put it out or never put it at all the pc starts always normal.. (when i open the pc i put it and works normally) please help i want the bluetooh to stay forever in usb port without need to remove it for the pc to open

you need to format fat 32 and assign the usb to become a bootable USB

I have an identical bios. I made a bootable usb in NSTF, it would not let me make a bootable usb in any other format. When I request boot menu four options show up I go for removable device and it didn't show. I was stumped so I messed around with it for a bit then gave up and clicked on boot from hard disk, low and behold there was four options including hard disk and the USB. Bios year is 2007, if that helps anyone.

I have the same bios as yours, and cannot boot from a usb ISO (Fat32) that boots perfect on 2 other computers. I tried everything to no avail, so I am believing the bios or MOB is knackered. When I boot, the usb shows in the boot sequence, and also in Linux Mint and Win10 My Computer, but the USB just wont boot. Its kinda like saying "yeah, I can see ya fine, but just dont wanna touch ya" lol.

@@strikemaster1 I actually got it! So the flashdrive wasnt working. I used an sd card reader usb to install windows on it, and then put the sd card into the sd card slot on the pc, it then dowloaded from there and it worked

most common reason for people is if they dont have UEFI, so they scheme a gbr, and their bios dont recognize it. Just make a mbr scheme and your BIOS will boot up easy, and plus every boot-making program chooses file system automaticaly.

Or they do have UEFI and secure boot is enabled, in which case disable secure boot in the BIOS, use Rufus and select GPT partition with NTFS file system.

You should be able to install win10 from CD, if there is enough space for win10 on your CD. Just put CD as first option to boot from and that's it

I f12 the boot menu. Removable device had nothing. I gave up and went back to the f12 boot menu and clicked on hard disk, in the hard disk menu the bootable usb showed up. NFTS formated usb, bios build identical to the video above, year of bios 2007. Hope this helps. Computers are BS lol, you have to fight them and find their secrets.

The boise regonize the flash but after the boot stage aka at mdos. If the progran i use to make the bootable flash does not support fat32 it would`t boot.

Hello im calling out there to all computer geeks for help. PLease...help me. i have a 2 year old desktop pc which i just bought a 2tb hard drive for and i have tried everything to get the pc to download windows 8 onto the hard drive(aka boot it using windows 8). And nothing so far has worked, i have spent weeks on this if u know a fix please help. Also the one and only time the pc booted off of something, it was a windows 8 dvd and half way through the booting process it said "Can't find boot disc" so idk what it is or how to fix it please help!

use fat32 and if that doesn't work than your bios doesn't support booting from usb. Try CD if that's the case

Disable secure boot in the BIOS. Download the 64bit Win 10 ISO file from Microsoft, use Rufus to amke your USB bootable using GPT partition and select NTFS file system. Select USB first in boot order in the BIOS.

well my thumbdrive is FAT32 . it is shown in my bios and i can set it as boot priority 1 but when i reboot the system it does not access the USB. wich means i am not able to install the operating system. I have an easy fix go to biaos and in boot sequence unselect hdd or ssd and save then your pc will boot from usb. After completing installation repeat the process i.e select hdd again and boom.
