Hi Rory, I really enjoy your videos. I've starting to learn French about 3 months ago. Mostly using the LingQ platform. Since watching your videos I've started to use Assimil. My question is do you have a good study routine for using Assimil? Also, can you recommend a good translator? I'm currently on lecon 21. Keep up the videos!

thanks for the comment Larry! LingQ is an excellent platform, using it with Assimil will be even better. My Assimil study routine is pretty simple. It's the exact same one I show my 3 students as well. I do 2 lessons each day (since they take about 20 mins to do each). If I started the book today I would do lesson 1 & 2. then tomorrow I would do lesson 1 & 2. then the day after I do lesson 3 & 4. then repeat 3 & 4 the next day. this means I complete 8 lessons every week but double. note that everytime you read the French lesson, make sure you listen to the audio as well. also pause along the way and read the English to slow down and understand what the French is saying. My favourite translator is Reverso. Also little tip. At some point in the Assimil book, you will get to a lesson where the level is too difficult for you. This is normal. When this happens to my Students I tell them to stop on that lesson and for the next 7 days go back and repeat earlier lessons each day. Then once they have done that, try doing the lesson they stopped on again. This works everytime to get them back on track. - Rory

@@FrenchCoach Thanks for your tips on Assimil. I have been doing one lesson a day and found I had to do review more frequently than they recommend. Your approach makes much more sense. I like your entire approach to learning French. I only wish that our time zones weren't so far apart. If it weren't for that I'd sign up in a heartbeat!

@@larrymoore2868 good to hear Larry. I get what you mean. I've got 2 students that are in way different time zones to me - one in the Middle East & the other in Netherlands. Time zone isn't a problem really since I have a Zoom call just once a week with each of them. If you are considering joining up, you can book a call if you like and I could give you more detail on the structure etc. I offer. Thanks, Rory.

@@FrenchCoach Hi Rory I just checked your schedule and see that on the weekends you are available during times that are workable for me. Unfortunately this weekend will be a bit tight but perhaps next? I'm a bit scared to jump in the water :). My wife is encouraging me to jump! (she speaks a bit of french as well).

@@FrenchCoach Firstly thanks for replying. Since I learned English by myself in a couple of years with a dedicated mindset, I also believe that the only thing to do for the beginning of my learning journy is dedication too! What would u recommend for the first month of learning French cuz I have 3-4 months of free and I can immersed in my pages easily. I wanna skim down a grammar book easily which is not the one you offered unfortunately cuz I had already bought one before watching your video :(

@@yasesaka ok sure. The way I learned French & the method I coach my students with does not involve any grammar books. We focus purely on phrases, stories and sentences. This is because we know that allowing the language to come naturally to us is much better than trying to force ourselves to memorise grammar rules. The "Assimil French with Ease" book is not a grammar book. It is a collection of around 100 chapters of conversations and stories. It is good because it gives you the French Audio for every French sentence AND the English translation for every French sentence. It's the exact book I used when I started to learn French back in June 2020. It's the same one that all of my students use. In order to go from Beginner to Intermediate, this is the only resource you need.

@@FrenchCoach Wow. Thanks a lot cordially. I appreciate all of your help and recommendations. I'll order this book asap to get into French more than I did till now. Especially what I learned from my journey of learning English is that everything takes a lot of time yea that's true but the fulcrum of being successful in languages is learning fast and being into it as much as possible. I also opened a new KZbin channel on my other account. Good look for you too!

@@thezubair007 I have never used the Assimil app. I simply use the "Assimil French with Ease" textbook. you can order the book online/buy the e-book version. But make sure you get the one that INCLUDES AUDIO. Each time you read the French, you should listen to the audio with it. This builds up your Reading & Listening level at the same time.
